Chapter 58
"What?" Agnes stopped dead in her tracks and shot him a puzzled look.
"I think I saw a shadow or something. Maybe my eyes are just messing with me," Leopold said.
She rolled her eyes and kept climbing. The hallway was pitch black, so she whipped out her phone to light the way.
"I just watched this movie where a guy chopped up his rival and hid the pieces in the fridge, under the bed, in the closet," Leopold said.
"Leopold!" Agnes nearly screamed, cutting him off.
Leopold chuckled, "I'm here. What's up?"
Agnes gritted her teeth. This guy, seriously. "Next time, no durian for you!"
"Okay," he said, stepping onto the stairs.
He didn't seem to care. Ignoring Agnes's fear, he kept going, "Do you believe in ghosts?"
Agnes waited for him to catch up and quickly covered his mouth, "Shut up! If you say one more word, I swear I'll..."
She had no idea how to threaten Leopold, who was way better at martial arts than she was. In the end, she just looked at him pitifully, almost in tears.
She wasn't faking it; she really felt like crying.
Tomorrow at school, she was going to find out who spilled the beans about her fear of creepy stuff. Just wait, she was cutting ties with that snitch!
Her reputation was in tatters because of her fear.
"Alright, goodnight!" Having had his fun, Leopold held back the urge to hug her and headed to his bedroom.
At midnight, all was quiet when the door creaked open, and in the darkness, Leopold smirked, pretending to sleep.
Soon, a faint scent of a young girl filled the air, and then, a figure plopped down beside him.
Agnes tiptoed closer to Leopold. Thank goodness he was asleep.
It was all his fault! Before he came back, she could sleep alone. Ever since he had taken her to national cemetery late at night, her courage had shrunk even more.
Luckily, Leopold made her feel safe. As long as she was next to him, she wasn't scared!
She carefully lay down, scooted closer to him, and closed her eyes to sleep.
Her plan was to sneak back to her room before dawn, but when she woke up, it was already late morning. She sat up, groggily looking around.
Suddenly, her eyes widened, and she was fully awake.
Leopold, fresh from a morning run and a shower, was standing on the balcony, wrapped only in a towel, talking on the phone with his back to her.
This was the first time she had seen Leopold so exposed.
Even though they had shared a bed twice, she always snuck into his bed in the middle of the night and had never seen him after a shower.
Leopold's physique was seriously impressive.
Just his solid back alone made her imagine the defined lines of his abs.
She quietly grabbed her phone from beside the pillow, opened the camera, and snapped a photo. 'Got it!'
She contentedly admired her ‘masterpiece,’ feeling overjoyed!
At that moment, Agnes thoughtfully put down her phone, squinted her eyes, and pointed two fingers at Leopold, "Towel, fall! Fall! Fall!"
She eagerly watched the towel still tightly wrapped around Leopold. At that moment, Agnes really wished she could use magic to make the towel drop to the ground.
Just as she was having fun, Leopold suddenly turned around mid-call and caught her in the act!
Agnes awkwardly pulled her hand back, grabbed her pillow in embarrassment, and bolted from Leopold's room.
Back in her own room, she scratched her head. He found out she snuck into his bed. Would he overthink it? 'Whatever! He's my husband, so sharing a bed is no big deal.'
She picked up her phone and happily opened Facebook to post a status: [Waking up to sunshine streaming through the window, watching butterflies flitting among flowers, my mood brightens when I see you in the distance.]
The photo she uploaded was the one she secretly took of Leopold.
Anyway, Leopold didn't follow her on Facebook, so he wouldn't know she took the photo and posted it. Even if her Facebook friends saw the photo, they wouldn't recognize it as Leopold. At most, it would just stir up some gossip!
She was in a great mood.
After handling everything, she tossed her phone aside, humming a tune as she headed to the bathroom to freshen up.
She changed into new clothes and went downstairs. Her latest Facebook post already had tons of comments and private messages.
A girl from her class said, [Agnes, are you really living with a mysterious man?]
Another classmate chimed in, [That guy has an amazing body, Agnes. Can you introduce us?]
Bella smirked, [How's Mr. Neville's stamina? How long can he last?]
Clara typed, [Agnes, I've actually had my eye on Mr. Neville for a long time. Does your house need a maid?]
Justin, in admiration, typed, [Agnes, I really look up to you. You managed to get the title of Leopold's wife and share a bed with him. I'll follow you from now on!]
Jeremy curiously asked, [What did Clara send you? Share it with us.]
Agnes had over a thousand Facebook friends, and after scrolling through all the comments, she was exhausted.
Just a photo of Leopold's back attracted so much attention. If it were a front view, her phone would probably be blowing up!
Refreshing Facebook, she found that someone had already taken a screenshot and spread it: [Big news from the School of Economics and Management, Agnes is suspected of living with a man! Solid evidence!]
[Who is this handsome man I stumbled upon on Facebook this morning?]
[If my boyfriend had that body, I wouldn't even need to attend classes.]
The situation was spiraling out of control.
She wanted to delete it, but wouldn't that be more suspicious? After thinking for a moment, she replied uniformly: [Everyone misunderstood. I found that picture online.]
Grace immediately replied to this message: [I knew it!]
Agnes was speechless and decided to message Grace privately: [But I do know this man, and we're on good terms.]
She and Grace had limited mutual friends, so Agnes didn't think anyone would go through hundreds of comments to investigate.
Grace quickly dismissed the thought of Leopold, her jealousy quickly soothed by reason, "It's impossible; Mr. Neville wouldn't be interested in Agnes."
There was too much information on Facebook to handle. Although it was Saturday, she had plans to go shopping with friends, so she put her phone on silent and went downstairs.
At the villa entrance, Eden greeted Leopold, with Agnes following closely behind, "Leopold!"
