Chapter 155
Michael's mother, Chloe, appeared.
Standing beside her were Michael's father, Harold Wright, Faith, a middle-aged couple, and a young man.
The scene looked like a family meeting to discuss a marriage proposal.
Since Chloe had already spoken, Agnes couldn't avoid it and had to smile and greet them, "Hello."
Faith looked her up and down, "What are you doing here?" Her tone was full of disbelief, as if saying, how could someone as poor as you dare to show up in a place like this?
"Who is this?" The young man, Elliot Neville, dressed in a blue casual down jacket, looked at Agnes curiously, with a hint of disdain in his eyes.
However, Elliot looked quite familiar.
"Oh, Elliot, she's just a nobody. Let's go." Harold quickly stepped in to ease the tension.
Unlike Harold's conciliatory attitude, Chloe said sarcastically, "Are you here to cling to my son Michael? Too bad, Michael isn't here today; he's on a date with his future wife."
Michael already had a fiancée, yet he had been texting her every day recently. Agnes sneered inwardly, a bad man is indeed a bad man. "You're overthinking it. I'm not here to see Michael; I'm just here for a meal."
Hearing this, Chloe, to cover her embarrassment, turned to the cold-looking woman beside her and said, "Mrs. Neville, this is Michael's ex-girlfriend. They've been broken up for years, but she still clings to him. It's really embarrassing."
Mrs. Neville? Agnes looked at the cold and elegant woman; her aura was exactly like Leopold's.
But then she thought, there are so many people with the surname Neville, and she let it go. However, she still noticed the disdainful look in her eyes and retorted, "You misunderstood. Actually, it's Michael who keeps pestering me. I was planning to ask you to help persuade him to stop harassing me, as I'm already married."
Her words made Chloe's face turn ugly, "What nonsense are you talking about! Michael pestering you? Look at you now, marrying an assistant for some money, and you think you're rich? You're married? Show me the ring! Kevin, an assistant, would buy you a diamond ring?"
Indeed, like mother, like son. Chloe also mistakenly thought Agnes had married Kevin.
Agnes took a deep breath, looked at the cold woman beside her, and reminded, "Mrs. Neville, are you really okay with letting Elliot marry Chloe's sharp-tongued daughter Faith? What if your daughter turns out like this in the future?"
Sure enough, the noblewoman hesitated but said nothing, just looked at Elliot staring intently at Agnes, feeling somewhat displeased.
Chloe grabbed Agnes and whispered viciously, "What nonsense are you spouting? Be careful, or I'll tear your mouth apart! Such a meddlesome bitch!" Then she turned and smiled at the middle-aged couple, "Mr. Neville, Mrs. Neville, and Elliot, Agnes is mentally ill. Let's not pay her any mind."
The couple clearly didn't want to get involved any further, nodded, and turned to leave.
Elliot lingered a moment, looking at Agnes with interest, "I think Faith will be just as sharp-tongued in the future. How about I don't get engaged to her and become your boyfriend instead?"
Under Faith's angry gaze, Agnes took out a necklace from her clothes and dangled it in front of Elliot, "See? I'm already married!"
The huge diamond ring Leopold had given her was worn as a necklace. It had taken Leopold a long time to agree to let her wear it around her neck.
Faith stared at the ring; how could she not tell if it was real? Even someone who didn't know jewelry could sense its value.
Realizing the diamond ring on Agnes's hand was genuine, Faith began to scrutinize her other accessories: like the seemingly inconspicuous but worth hundreds of thousands of dollars earrings on her ears; the shoes worth tens of thousands of dollars on her feet.
It seemed Agnes really had married Kevin, but if he could buy these things, it made sense, right?
At this moment, Elliot teased with a smile, "I like stealing other people's women. Come with me, and I'll buy you two of those diamond rings."
Agnes looked at the smiling, ingratiating Elliot in disbelief. Wasn't he here to discuss marriage with Faith?
Her phone suddenly rang; it was Leopold calling. She quickly answered, "I'll be right back."
As soon as she sat down in the private room, Leopold held her hand under the table, "Why did you take so long? Where did you go?"
She brushed it off, "Ran into a friend, just said hello."
"Are you full?"
"Yes, I'm full."
"Then let's go." With that, Leopold pulled Agnes to her feet.
Agnes was taken aback, "Leaving just because we're full? You really are willful, Mr. Neville."
Seeing them about to leave, everyone else stood up, eagerly helping with coats and opening car doors. Agnes even felt a bit overwhelmed by the attention. Leopold, on the other hand, remained calm, as if he was used to it.
They got into the car directly from Alioth. In the car, Leopold told her, "I'll drop you off first; I still have some work to handle at the office."
"Can't it wait until tomorrow? It's already so late, and you're still going out." She actually felt quite sorry for him.
He smiled and replied, "Tomorrow has its own work. I'll try to come home early." With that, he gently kissed her forehead.
Agnes nodded in agreement, "Then come back early."
The car emerged from the underground parking lot and stopped at an intersection, where many cars were blocking the way. Leopold dialed Kevin's number, and Agnes, bored, looked out the window. She happened to see a few people arguing at the entrance of Alioth, and one woman in a black coat looked particularly familiar. When she turned back to argue with another man, Agnes recognized her face.
