Chapter 27

"Oh, my god!" She was thinking about how Leopold had been running her life lately. Now that he knew she was drunk, would he chew her out?

She tossed the covers aside and got out of bed. "Justin, I can't talk right now, I've got stuff to handle!" She quickly hung up and, despite her pounding headache, headed to the bathroom.

While soaking in the tub, Agnes was still debating whether she should stand up to her so-called husband or apologize.

Would standing up to him get her buried alive? And if she apologized, would it make the punishment any lighter?

Maybe she should just give it a shot.

With that thought, she hurried through her bath and went downstairs.

Eden was just about to come up and wake her. Seeing her come down, she quickly invited her to lunch.

As she ate the lunch Eden had made, Agnes had an idea. What if she made a few dishes for Leopold for dinner?

This plan might just work!

After calming down and thinking it over, she realized her real worry wasn't divorce but whether she'd end up buried alive!

So, she had to find a way to please Leopold.

But she didn't know how to cook!

Watching Eden busy in the kitchen, she hesitated for a moment and decided to learn on the spot.

The kitchen was filled with the sounds of sizzling oil and clattering utensils all afternoon.

Finally, at 5:30 PM, the kitchen went quiet, and Eden breathed a sigh of relief.

She looked at Agnes, who was fiddling with the lunchbox and discreetly wiped away some sweat, hoping the person eating it wouldn't get poisoned.

The ZL International Group Building was smack in the middle of downtown. Its 88-story office tower reached into the clouds and was connected by several curved sky bridges to the adjacent 66-story building.

This was the headquarters of ZL International Group, which had thousands of companies of various sizes worldwide.

Agnes had passed by this building countless times, and it was one of the most iconic structures in Lumina City. But if Robert hadn't told her the truth, she would never have known this was Leopold's company.

From what little she knew, ZL Group was into high-tech, real estate, cosmetics, fashion, entertainment, and a bunch of other industries.

Leopold was a business tycoon.

To be honest, running such a huge group was no small feat, and Leopold was seriously impressive!

Holding the lunchbox, she walked into the ZL International Group Building. Many people were already getting off work.

Agnes, dressed in a white brand-name top and jacket, jeans, and white sneakers, with her purple hair tied up in a bun, exuded a youthful and energetic demeanor.

Her clean and sunny appearance drew many curious glances. Who was this young girl here to see?

"Hello, who are you looking for?" The receptionist, Danielle Nelson, stopped Agnes, who was looking around, and scrutinized her warily.

Agnes gave a name, drawing even more attention. "Leopold."

Who was this lady, and what was her relationship with their CEO, daring to call him by his first name? In Lumina City, most of people respectfully referred to Leopold as Mr. Neville!

Danielle smirked with a hint of disdain. "You must be one of Mr. Neville's fans. Sorry, but he's super busy. You should head back."

Every day, dozens, if not hundreds, of women came looking for Leopold, but not everyone got to see him!

"I'm not his fan; I'm his family." Their marriage was a secret, and since they might divorce any day, there was no need to announce to the world that she was Leopold's wife.

This time, Danielle genuinely laughed, her face full of sarcasm and contempt. "Miss, you're so young, why lie? Mr. Neville's family has been living in the Republic of Liberia. If you're such a fan, how could you not know?"

She waved her hand, signaling Agnes to leave.

"I'm not lying. If you don't believe me, call Leopold!" Seeing Danielle's disdainful expression made Agnes a bit angry. Did she look down on people?

Danielle crossed her arms and looked at Agnes indifferently. "Family? Then call Mr. Neville yourself!"

Her tone was full of disbelief, making Agnes grit her teeth and call Robert.

Was she really going to make a call? Danielle raised an eyebrow, curious to see who she would call.

The call connected. "Hello, Robert, I'm downstairs at ZL International Group Building, but there's an old woman here who won't let me up!" Agnes didn't look at Danielle's twisted face. 'Serves you right for looking down on me!'

After hanging up, Danielle scolded, "Who are you calling an old woman? I'm not even thirty yet! How dare you!" Danielle looked very domineering.

"Maybe you're not thirty, but your actions and words make you seem over forty!" Agnes said. "What? Do you think you are impressive just because you work at a big company?"

Danielle was so angry she laughed. "Didn't you make a call? Why hasn't anyone responded?" Just as she finished speaking, the service desk phone rang, making Danielle's face change dramatically. Could this girl really know Leopold?

She quickly walked to the service desk and saw it was a call from the CEO's office. Shocked, she glanced at the smug-looking Agnes. Danielle realized she may have really messed with the wrong person. "Hello, Mr. Neville."

"Send the person downstairs to my office!" Leopold's cold voice came through, making Danielle's legs go weak as she clutched the desk.

She had really messed up. Leopold had personally called! She was doomed! "Yes, Mr. Neville!" She hung up, trying to steady her emotions.

It took her a few seconds to walk over to Agnes, put on her professional smile, and respectfully say, "Hello! Please follow me!" She was really doomed. Would she lose her job?

Walking ahead, Danielle was terrified. While waiting for the elevator, she awkwardly glanced at Agnes and softly said, "I'm sorry. I didn't know your identity earlier. Please..."

Before she could finish, Agnes smiled and interrupted, "You don't need to explain. I understand. Many people come to see Mr. Neville every day." Danielle's disdain did initially anger Agnes, but she had no intention of holding a grudge.

Danielle looked at Agnes in surprise. Was she forgiving her?

"I'm really sorry. I won't do it again." Danielle had been a receptionist at ZL Group for two years and knew how to handle this situation.
