Chapter 90

Leopold let go of Agnes's hand and caught Lydia as she ran over. "I'm fine. Just chill out."

"I'm feeling better, but Mr. Hayes won't let me leave the hospital!" Lydia pouted.

"Clifford's just looking out for you." Leopold helped Lydia stand up straight. "Agnes is here too. Why didn't you say hi?"

Lydia finally noticed Agnes and greeted her shyly, "Hi, Mrs. Neville. Sorry, I was just really worried about Mr. Neville. He got hurt because of me, and I feel awful."

Agnes, hiding her annoyance, replied coolly, "Lydia, you don't need to feel bad. It's Leopold's job to protect you, especially since you've helped him before."

"Mr. Neville told you everything?" Lydia asked.

"Yeah, we're a couple. No secrets between couples, right?" Agnes smiled, intertwining her fingers with Leopold's and looking up at him sweetly.

Leopold squeezed her hand, his eyes soft.

He loved hearing that.

"Leopold, are you here to visit Lydia or to show off your love?" Leroy complained loudly.

Leopold's demeanor turned icy as he shot Leroy a cold look. "If you don't like it, you can leave."

"Leopold, we've been friends for over ten years. It's one thing to be cold to me, but now you want to kick me out? You're really letting love mess with your head!"

Leroy, hands in his pockets, spoke with a mix of annoyance and nonchalance.

"When I got hurt, where were you?" Leopold asked, noting Leroy was the only one who didn't show up last night.

Leroy didn't look guilty at all. "In my heart, Lydia's way more important than you. Had to make sure she was okay first!"

Lydia giggled and tugged on Leroy's sleeve, acting playful. "Mr. Smith cares about me the most!"

"Of course!" Leroy casually draped his arm around Lydia's shoulder, giving Leopold a challenging look.

Leopold couldn't be bothered and turned to Clifford. "What did the doctor say?"

"Not serious. Lydia can go home tomorrow morning." Clifford said, looking away from the window.

Leopold didn't say anything else, pulling Agnes to sit on the sofa. He crossed his legs and quietly watched Lydia and Leroy chat and laugh.

Soon, the door opened again, and in walked Ethan and Kelly.

Ethan greeted Agnes first, "Agnes."

Agnes started to stand up, but Leopold grabbed her arm, pulling her back. She looked at him, confused.

He said, "This isn't school. No need to be overly polite to him."

Ethan smiled warmly and didn't say anything else.

Agnes greeted, "Mr. Perez, Kelly."

Ethan nodded and walked over to Lydia.

Once Ethan moved away, Kelly approached Agnes. "How's Leopold's hand?"

Agnes looked puzzled at Kelly's smiling face. Leopold was right there. Why not ask him directly?

Kelly raised her voice, "Agnes, you're Leopold's wife. How can you be too shy to talk about your husband's condition?"

Agnes was bewildered.

Kelly pulled her a few steps away from Leopold, linking arms with her affectionately, and smiled, "When we visited last night, you were fast asleep beside him. No wonder you don't know. Taking care of Leopold must have worn you out!"

Agnes suddenly understood. They had visited the villa last night.

Thinking about her sleeping face being seen by everyone, she glared at Leopold, "Why didn't you wake me up?"

He raised an eyebrow, "I'll keep that in mind for next time."

Kelly was amused by their interaction and seemed to remember Lydia only then, "When are you getting discharged?"

Lydia sweetly replied, "Thanks for asking, Kelly. I'll be out tomorrow morning."

Ethan reminded her from the side, "Lydia, you need to be polite."

Before Lydia could respond, Kelly quickly interjected, "It's okay, I think it's fine for her to call me that!"

Ethan walked over to her, "Then when you marry me, we can decide how Lydia should address you."

Kelly's cheeks turned slightly red, and she made a playful face at him before pulling Agnes towards the door, "You guys go ahead, Agnes and I need to talk about something."

Once outside, Kelly gave Agnes a meaningful look and said earnestly, "Don't worry too much about Mr. Neville saving Lydia."

"Okay," Agnes said, still baffled by Kelly's behavior.

They walked to the emergency exit entrance before Kelly stopped. "Agnes, don't let Lydia cause any trouble between you and Mr. Neville, got it?"

"Kelly, what exactly are you trying to tell me? I'm really confused," Agnes said.

Seeing Agnes's puzzled expression, Kelly couldn't help but laugh softly, "Look at me; I was too hasty and forgot you haven't met Lydia many times."

Then, she lowered her voice and whispered to Agnes, "I don't know what Lydia is up to either. Did you know Clifford's ex-girlfriend got engaged to someone else, likely because of her? After that, Ethan and I argued a few times, all because of her. I'm not badmouthing her, but Lydia is very scheming. Be cautious around her, and don't let her cause any disputes between you and Mr. Neville. Don't fall for her tricks, understand?"
