Chapter 108 Fierce Battle in the Dark Alley
In the alley.
Four burly men rushed forward, two of them pinned Todd down and dragged him behind, while the other two fired their guns.
The gunfire roared, but the alley was extremely narrow. It was impossible for Robert and his two companions to charge forward against the bullets. They had to temporarily avoid the danger, pressing their bodies against the walls on either side while returning fire.
Behind them, the sound of an engine roared as an off-road vehicle rapidly reversed to the mouth of the alley, the rear end crashing into the corner of a concrete wall with a bang, stopping at an angle.
Carl, covered in blood, opened the car door with his left hand and tumbled out, shouting in a gradually fading voice, "Run... leave him alone... run, Robert, there are people everywhere outside."
Hearing this, Robert turned back to Carl, who had fallen out of the car. Carl raised his gun and fired wildly at the street outside.
Next to the wall, Matt crouched behind a large dumpster, his face twisted as he pulled Robert. "No chance, let's go. If we don't leave now, we'll all die here."
"Go back and get Carl." Robert shook off Matt's arm and fired back.
Matt and another young man who had followed them, both long-time brothers of Benjamin, didn't hesitate and followed Robert.
On the street.
Tyler hid behind the wall on the left side of the alley, chambering a round, and suddenly popped out to shoot at the off-road vehicle's tires.
A dull popping sound was heard as the tires were punctured by bullets, leaving only the rims scraping against the cobblestone road.
"Robert, do you think you can still get away?" Tyler's eyes were wild. "Because of you, I had to beg the last person I wanted to beg, and I got beaten by the soldiers. Do you think I can let you safely return to Pine City?"
As he spoke, Tyler kept signaling to the people around him to charge into the alley first.
At this moment, Matt and Arthur on the right suddenly rushed out from both sides of the vehicle, using it as cover, and decisively pulled the trigger.
Robert crouched and ran over, grabbing Carl's bloody arm and dragging him back. "Get up, let's go."
"Go? Where are you going?" Tyler shouted, waving his hand. "Anyone who doesn't want the money, step back. The first ones to charge, I'll give each of you $3,000. Go!"
The crowd outside the alley was forced to rush in, firing wildly.
In the intense crossfire, Robert and his men were at a disadvantage due to their smaller numbers. Matt's magazine ran empty, and his left arm was hit, causing him to retreat three steps.
"Cover him."
Robert roared and stepped forward.
Matt retreated, quickly changing magazines with both hands, then supported Carl with his left arm, turning and firing as he rushed towards the dumpster.
"Retreat, Arthur, go with Matt, hurry," Robert shouted.
Arthur, the brother on the right, heard the command and retreated, turning to cover Matt as he fired into the depths of the alley.
Robert crouched and moved back several steps along the off-road vehicle, shouting, "Come any closer, and I'll shoot the gas tank."
The thugs outside the alley instinctively stepped back a few steps upon hearing this.
Inside the car, Randy and another hostage driver, who was left unattended, scrambled out, their legs trembling, and knelt on the ground, shouting, "Boss, we have nothing to do with this, don't shoot. Don't shoot."
Taking advantage of this moment, Robert quickly retreated to the large dumpster and shouted, "Arthur, cover us. Matt, get Carl over the wall first."
Arthur changed to a spare magazine and immediately got up to fire into the depths of the alley, continuing to suppress the four opponents. Robert, having no time to worry about anything else, turned and fired at the gas tank.
The rapid gunfire rang out, and the gas tank was punctured with three or four holes. As the fuel began to spray out, the bullets hitting the guard plate sparked.
An explosion echoed through the night, the rear of the off-road vehicle engulfed in flames, sending countless fragments flying.
At the mouth of the alley, Tyler, still under the influence of the drugs, dodged the debris, sweating profusely and shouting with bloodshot eyes, "You're all useless! I pay you to shoot fireworks! Get in there!"
"Tyler, the car exploded."
"It's all on fire inside."
The crowd dodged the explosion at the alley's entrance, protecting themselves and responding.
Tyler fired a shot into the ground and, in a fit of rage, charged into the alley, shouting, "Anyone behind me, I'll kill them when I get back."
Hearing this and seeing Tyler already charging in, the others reluctantly squeezed in, sticking to the walls to avoid a second explosion.
In the alley.
Matt, using his shoulder to support Carl, had already lifted him to the top of the alley wall and then climbed up himself.
Robert, drenched in sweat, changed magazines and shouted, "Arthur, you go up first, hurry."
Saying this, Robert took position and continued to suppress the enemy.
Arthur changed his last magazine, leaned back, and half-squatted, shouting, "You go first, hurry, step on my shoulder."
"You..." Robert hesitated, about to argue.
"Just go, what are you hesitating for?" Arthur turned and fired towards the alley entrance. "Hurry!"
Robert knew that every second of hesitation could cost them their chance to escape, so he stepped on the side of the dumpster with his right foot, then onto Arthur's shoulder with his left, using his core muscles to push up.
Feeling Robert's push, Arthur lifted him up.
Robert grabbed the top of the wall, climbing up like a monkey, then lay across the wall, reaching out. "Grab my arm."
Arthur turned and raised his arm, grabbing Robert's wrist with his left hand and pushing off the wall with his right foot.
"Push harder!"
Robert shouted, pulling Arthur up with all his strength.
A dull gunshot echoed, and Arthur's body, hanging on the wall, was instantly torn apart.
Tyler's large-caliber rifle fired a single shot, shattering Arthur's left abdomen and pelvis, his body looking as if a beast had taken a bite out of it, internal organs spilling out, and his left leg dangling limply against his right.
Robert lay on the wall, staring at Arthur in shock.
Since his debut, he had always been protected by Benjamin and had never seen such a brutal scene.
"Go... go!" Arthur's body swayed on the wall, his voice weak.
"Arthur!" Robert shouted, his eyes red.
"Go."
Matt, who had already jumped over the wall, pulled Robert's right leg.
Gunfire erupted, the wall splintering, and Robert was pulled over the wall by Matt.
On the street.
Chris, sitting in the car, urged, "Quick, drive the car over."
In the alley, Tyler, his face twisted, turned and shouted at the people behind him, "Can't you handle a few punks? What use are you?"
As soon as he finished speaking, four men, dragging Todd, ran over from the depths of the alley.
