Chapter 179 The Characteristic of Captain James Is Speed.
Loren was stunned by Alexander's words. "What do you mean? I don't get it. They staged their own play?"
"The hideout in room 606 of the Welfare District," Alexander said quietly, "Looks like they left in a hurry after getting the news. But I think they set it up long ago. They wanted us to find out why Zephyr was killed. And the reason? The Wilde family was also trafficking guns."
John, a seasoned officer, caught on quickly. "So you're saying these thugs are trying to frame the Wilde family, making it look like they're the bad guys?"
"Hard to say." Alexander shook his head. "If it was just about eighty grand, Zephyr's death and the clues in the welfare community would be enough. But why drag Hubert into it and make such a big scene? And how did these thugs know there'd be people like us in the Black Street District police who'd go against the Wilde family and William?"
"Yeah, this motive is really confusing," Xavier said, looking puzzled.
Alexander grabbed the evidence bag from John's hand, glanced at a few ledgers, and asked, "Have these been photographed and documented?"
"Yeah." John nodded. "I was worried that Jasper might mess with them, so I documented them right away."
"Good. Let's find a place to go through them," Alexander said.
"Okay."
John nodded and told Loren and Elbert, "You two, come help."
"Got it, boss."
Fifteen minutes later, Jasper showed up at the scene and was pulled aside by one of their team members.
"What's up?" Jasper asked, frowning.
The officer looked around, then whispered in Jasper's ear, "Alexander's team found something in Hubert's room. Looks like ledgers, but I didn't see the details. The tech guys said it seems to record..."
In a small meeting room at Pine City police headquarters, Samuel was yawning and playing a mobile game on his phone.
His phone buzzed, and Samuel glanced at the number before standing up. "Excuse me, I need to take this call."
Seconds later, Samuel was in the hallway, frowning as he answered, "Why do you always call when I'm in a meeting?"
"Samuel, our chance has come," Alexander said excitedly.
Samuel was taken aback. "What chance?"
"Here's the deal..." Alexander quickly explained the situation.
After listening, Samuel thought for a moment and asked, "Are you sure you can pull it off?"
"Yeah," Alexander said confidently. "The case just happened, and the other side hasn't reacted yet. If we move now, we can do it. But if we wait, Jasper will hear about it and tip off William and Adam, and we'll lose our shot."
Samuel blinked. "Alright, go for it."
"Okay, I'll get the team together." Alexander liked working with Samuel because he was a decisive leader who made quick decisions once he had the facts.
At the crime scene on the second floor of a standalone house, Jasper stormed into the room and immediately turned to Loren. "Where are the evidence bags from Hubert's bedroom? Why are two missing?"
"I don't know, I just got here, Captain," Loren replied, looking a bit lost.
"Who saw those two evidence bags?" Jasper shouted again.
"Captain Lane, I think John took them," someone in the inner room replied, wearing white gloves.
Jasper tensed up. He quickly pulled out his phone to call John.
Just then, John walked in from outside, smiling. "Captain Lane, you're here!"
Jasper looked up, surprised. "Did you take the evidence bags from Hubert's bedroom?"
"Yeah, I took two," John nodded.
"Why did you take them without permission?" Jasper asked, clearly frustrated.
John smirked. "What do you mean without permission? I documented them and was going to take them to the car to photograph."
"Did you look at the contents? Any important clues?" Jasper pressed.
"Nothing directly related to the shooting," John said, squinting at Jasper with a playful smile. "Just some ledgers recording the smuggling operations of Zephyr and Hubert's trading company, including monthly bribes to customs officers, Riverside District police officers, and other officials."
Jasper was stunned.
"Want to see them? Here you go." John handed over the two evidence bags.

In a slum area of the Riverside District, Alexander, wearing a bulletproof vest, cocked his gun and shouted, "Team three, be careful. The people inside might be armed."
"Roger!"
"Roger!"
Andrew's team responded over the radio.
"Alright, my team can go in," Alexander called out, then crouched with his gun and moved to the side of a storefront with a rolling shutter door.
A young man with a sledgehammer stepped up and smashed the lock at the bottom of the shutter door.
After two metallic clangs, the lock deformed and popped open.
Alexander pulled up the shutter door with one hand and shouted, "Go in."
Over twenty people rushed in.
In the dimly lit room, two young men who were sleeping sat up abruptly at the noise.
"Who is it?"
"What are you doing?"
The two groggy young men were kicked back onto the bed before they could see who had entered.
"Police. Don't move."
"Raise your heads, hands on your necks."
As seven or eight officers held the two down at gunpoint, Alexander led the others inside.
At the end of a dark hallway was a large room with no furniture, with seven or eight large wooden crates stacked on the left side.
Alexander holstered his gun, walked over, and opened one of the crates, but it was empty. He then used a crowbar to pry open another long wooden crate.
As two officers removed the nailed-down wooden board, Alexander looked inside. The crate was lined with moisture-proof material, and thirty neatly arranged handguns and at least ten thousand rounds of ammunition glinted in the darkness.
Alexander grinned and dialed Samuel's number.
"Hello, how's it going?" Samuel asked.
"I found it," Alexander replied with a grin. "Got the people and the guns."
