Chapter 155 Jasper Feels Terrible
inside the stairwell.
Jasper was trembling with anger, glaring as he replied, "Bastard, when Samuel is done using you, you'll see how cruel this world can be."
"You should think about how you're going to explain yourself to the police inspector first."
Alexander pointed at Jasper's face and said slowly, "Listen up, I'm not well-educated, and I'm not good at office politics. If you push me too far, don't blame me for what happens next, got it?"
With that, Alexander shoved Jasper aside, straightened his clothes, and stormed out of the stairwell.
Jasper got up, his eyes sullen as he watched Alexander's back, gritting his teeth and cursing, "Bastard, your good days are numbered."
An hour and a half later.
In the police inspector's office building, inside the interrogation room.
Jasper was desperately explaining to everyone, "I've told you, that Finn is just a thug. How can you believe his report? That bastard even hits kids and women."
The middle-aged inspector in a dark blue uniform replied righteously, "Sergeant Jasper, I'll ask you again. Are you sure you haven't taken any bribes from Finn?"
"Yeah," Jasper replied with a pained expression.
The middle-aged inspector waved his hand and said, "Show him the footage."
"Got it."
The young recorder got up, walked to the computer, plugged in the connection, and started playing the video.
In the footage, Finn was lying in a hospital bed, stuffing money into Jasper's pocket, and Jasper was smiling without refusing.
Seeing the hard evidence in front of him, Jasper was stunned.
"How do you explain this footage?" the middle-aged inspector asked.
Jasper snapped back to his senses and furiously shouted, "This is a setup! Inspector. If someone wanted to bribe me, why would they install a camera in advance? Isn't this a setup?"
"Whether it's a setup and whether you took the money are two separate issues," the middle-aged inspector replied with a frown.
"Secondly, according to Finn, he recorded this footage because he was afraid you wouldn't do anything after taking the money. In fact, you didn't do anything for him, which is why he reported you."
"Fuck!" Jasper, unable to defend himself, shouted with a red face, "When he gave me the money, he didn't ask me to do anything, just to look out for him in the future."
The middle-aged inspector was taken aback, then slammed the table and responded, "Please watch your words and actions. Who are you cursing at?"
"I... I... damn it... I'm cursing myself," Jasper replied, clenching his fists and holding back his anger.
Jasper's outburst was because being accused of taking bribes and being reported was extremely damaging. Even if he hadn't taken the money, the rumors spreading within the police department would cause significant negative impact, potentially affecting his future promotions. Moreover, Jasper wasn't innocent; he had indeed taken the money. If someone wanted to go after him, he could very well be fired.
Jasper was scared because he wasn't Riley. Whether in the police department or in social circles, his connections and status were limited. If he got fired, the Patrick family would likely stop giving him any benefits, and how would he support his family then?
About an hour later.
After the interrogation at the police inspector's office, Jasper immediately took a car back to the police station and rushed into Riley's office.
Inside the office, Riley was on the phone, habitually flicking his wig bangs, and said, "Someone's here, and I'll talk to you later. Okay, be good."
After hanging up, Riley looked at Jasper with a dark expression and asked, "I don't get it. Alexander has only been here a few days, but you, with all your years of experience, got played by him."
"Alexander is too cunning. I never thought he'd go behind my back to find Finn," Jasper cursed, "And Finn is a good actor. You didn't see it; he was so convincing..."
"You just love small gains too much," Riley scolded, crossing his arms. "You got tempted by a thousand dollars? Haven't you seen the world?"
"Yes, I didn't think it through," Jasper replied, seeing Riley's displeased expression and not daring to argue further.
"He's just arrived and hasn't even settled in, but you've already caused trouble," Riley responded irritably, "Wait for the outcome."
"Chief, you can't let the inspector handle me! If Alexander comes up with another plan, I'll be fired! Then there'll be no one in the fourth team, and I won't be able to do anything for you," Jasper pleaded, "Chief, help me out. You know my whole family depends on this job. It's not easy for me..."
"You were caught red-handed. How can I help you?" Riley shouted angrily, "If I protect you too much. It's like admitting to the inspector that I took half of your thousand dollars. Are you stupid?"
"Chief, please help me. I won't dare next time..." Jasper, abandoning his dignity, stood beside Riley, almost in tears.
After a long silence, Riley said, "Forget about promotions for now. Be prepared for disciplinary action."
"No, Chief, if I get a disciplinary action, my future is over."
Riley picked up his teacup, sighed, and said, "I'll meet someone tonight. Prepare a gift."
"Okay, okay, I'll prepare it," Jasper responded quickly, "If we handle this well, what will be the outcome?"
"Internal handling is inevitable. Let's see if we can reduce the major punishment to a minor one."
Jasper gritted his teeth and muttered, "I'll get rid of Alexander sooner or later."
"Stop talking. If you can't even handle a subordinate, what are you boasting about?" Riley waved him off. "Go, and read more books when you have time."
In the office area.
Alexander was on the phone, saying, "Thanks, when Matt gets back, I'll treat you all to drinks."
"No problem, Alexander. We've taken care of Finn. He went to Stardust City to find friends after being discharged. With some money in his pocket, he probably won't return to Pine City anytime soon," Matt's brother said with a laugh. "Besides, Jasper wouldn't dare do anything to him. After all, Finn's already reported him; he wouldn't go as far as to kill Finn."
"Alright, I trust you guys."
"Okay, you get back to work, Alexander. We'll catch up later."
"Sure."
After ending the call, Alexander walked to John's office, intending to ask him to lunch, only to find the old man who had come to report a case still there.
"Still not done?" Alexander asked casually.
John came over, looking tired, and said, "The case is complicated. The old man's son is missing."
"Where's he from?"
"Riverside District."
"Then why report it to our station?" Alexander was puzzled.
"Because the case happened in Black Street District," John explained, closing the door. "The old man suspects his son is dead and thinks he knows who did it."
"Does he have any leads?"
"I suspect there's more to this case. Many people know the clues, but the suspect has some background," John whispered to Alexander. "The old man says the killer is Zephyr from Riverside District. This guy deals in guns and has some connections."
"Zephyr, I never heard of him," Alexander replied, puzzled.
Meanwhile.
Zephyr was lying in bed, dialing William's number, "Are you busy tonight, Mr. Patrick? Alright, let's meet up."
