Chapter 7 David Forced to Act

Alexander originally had no interest in the four men and one woman, but when Andrew mentioned them, he also glanced in the direction of the window. The four men were uniformly dressed in shearling jackets, work pants, and worn-out leather boots. Their sharp eyes and exposed skin were somewhat red.

"They don't look like they're from the district," Alexander quietly noted.

"How can you tell?" Andrew asked curiously.

"They're dressed too warmly and have frostbite," Alexander replied succinctly. "They look like hitmen from the anarchic district."

Andrew felt a bit uneasy hearing this. "If we try to intervene, we can't take them on."

"Did you bring your gun?" Alexander asked.

"No, I didn't. We're just here for a meal." Andrew shook his head.

"Then I suggest we don't act yet." Alexander frowned, thinking it over. "Call the team."

As they quickly exchanged words, the four men were already standing up with the woman and heading to pay the bill.

"They're leaving," Andrew said nervously, his hand shaking as he picked up his glass. "Should we follow them?"

"We don't have a car," Alexander responded exasperatedly. "They drove here. How are we supposed to follow them on foot? Are you kidding?"

"I forgot..." Andrew was embarrassed.

Alexander glanced at the four men, frowning as he added, "If they are hitmen, they're armed. We can't stop them."

Andrew was genuinely nervous. Although he worked in the front-line investigation team, he rarely dealt with dangerous situations and had never participated in large-scale operations. Despite this, he turned to Alexander and said, "We can't just ignore this as a member of the Police Department. Think of a way out."

"We don't have guns and we're outnumbered. We can't keep up with them. Calling the team now won't be quick enough... I don't have a solution," Alexander said, sweating profusely. "Unless a miracle happens..."

At that moment, the restaurant door opened, and six burly young men walked in, scanning the room. The leader, David, called out, "Alexander!"

Both Alexander and Andrew turned around instantly, eyes wide with surprise as they muttered, "A miracle."

David, dressed in a police uniform, led his five colleagues over, tilting his head and puffing on an e-cigarette. He looked at Alexander and scolded, "We've Just got here. Are you already eating out? You must have deep pockets. Come out here. I need to talk to you..."

"David, are you here on a case?" Andrew stepped forward, grabbing David's arm before Alexander could respond.

David looked puzzled. "What case?"

"Aren't you here for them?" Andrew asked, confused.

"Yeah, I heard he was here," David replied.

"Then great. How many people did you bring? Are there more team members outside?" Andrew asked.

David grew more confused. "What are you talking about?"

"Are you an idiot? Why are you hiding this from me?" Andrew smacked his arm urgently. "Are we arresting them here or outside?"

"No, I think we're talking about different things." David pointed at Alexander. "I'm here to find him."

Andrew was stunned and subtly pointed at the four men by the bar. "Aren't you here to arrest them?"

"Arrest them? What did they do?" David asked.

"That's quite a coincidence," Andrew said, sweating profusely.

"Those four kidnapped a girl. We just ran into them. We were discussing what to do when you showed up... Just arrest them. We have enough people now," Andrew said.

David was bewildered. "I... I... I'm just here for Alexander."

"This restaurant is even your jurisdiction. Why are you talking about finding Alexander now?" Andrew whispered, "Figure out how to arrest them."

"I... I didn't prepare for this!" David said, exasperated, glancing again at the four men. "I don't even know what they're up to."

The four men had already noticed David and his team as soon as they entered. Seeing them in uniform and meeting with Andrew and Alexander made them uneasy.

They exchanged glances and immediately surrounded the woman, heading for the exit.

"Hurry, figure out a plan." Andrew's heart pounded as he urged David and his team.

David, frustrated, stepped back. "You two ran into this. I don't have a plan."

"You're the main force. We don't have anything on us," Andrew insisted.

David, sweating profusely, turned to his team. "We can't ignore this... Andrew's an idiot. If we bail, he'll report us."

"What do we do?" Others asked.

"Dean, notify the team. Everyone else, spread out," David instructed, lowering his head, "Leo , go check their IDs. If they don't have residency permits, ask for their district entry permits. If they make a move, we shoot."

"Am I going to check IDs? Bro!" the young officer Leo almost cried. "Send Andrew please."

"They're not in uniform. You go," David demanded.

Leo cursed under his breath and forced himself to step forward, blocking the four men. "I'm a police officer. Show me your residency permits."

The four men stopped, expressionless, looking at David and his team.

The woman stood in the middle, sweating profusely and clenching her fists.

"I'm talking to you. Show me your residency permits," Leo repeated.

"We're here to pick up supplies from the anarchic district," the short middle-aged man said quietly. "We don't have long-term residency permits."

"Show me your entry permits." Leo extended his hand.

"Sure." The short man reached into his pocket.

David, an experienced officer, instinctively stepped back, pretending to reach behind him but going for his gun.

As the short man reached into his pocket, the woman suddenly screamed, "Help me. They're kidnapping me!"

"Don't move!" As soon as the words were spoken, one of the short man's companions pulled out a grenade, shouting, "The pin's out. If you move, we all die."

Chaos erupted in the restaurant as diners scattered.

The short man grabbed the woman and stepped back, his expression calm. "Cover me. I'll go out the back."

David, sweating profusely, placed his hand on his holster and pointed at the man with the grenade. "Don't get excited."

Before David could finish, Andrew suddenly sprang into action, grabbing a bottle from the table and smashing it over the man's wrist.

The man stepped back, his expression fierce. Without hesitation, he threw the grenade into the crowd.

Alexander quickly grabbed Andrew by the collar and pulled him back several steps.

A loud explosion rocked the restaurant, creating a large crater.

Debris flew everywhere, and two tables were blown to pieces.

Three officers were hit by shrapnel and fell.

David, lying on the ground, shouted, "Take cover! Shoot the guy with the grenade!"

Two shots rang out. As David tried to get up, a burst of blood erupted from his buttocks, and he fell again with a thud.

David frantically touched his wound. Seeing the blood flow, he cursed.
