Chapter 137 He Is Miserable Enough

Inside the room.

Chris sat on the sofa, retrieved a note from his pocket, placed it on the table, and said, "The idea to switch the fake drugs was mine. I also talked to Todd. This note has all the details of the switch that night and the people involved. If you follow what I wrote, you should be able to explain everything clearly, right?"

Andrew picked up the note, glanced at it, and immediately frowned, asking, "Todd is already dead. The evidence chain is missing a link. Is there a way to fix this?"

Chris thought for a few seconds, pointed at the note, and replied, "There's a guy named Sebastian Ward on it. When I gave Todd the money, he and David were both there."

"Did he run after the incident?" Andrew asked.

"He should still be in Pine City," Chris said with a cold smile, "With Terry gone, the company must be in chaos. No one should be paying attention to a small fry like him right now."

"Alright, I got it," Andrew said, standing up with the note. "You guys talk, and I'm going to make a call."

On the bed, Alexander lifted his head slightly to look at Chris and suddenly asked, "Aren't you afraid that after we finish this, Robert will come after you for revenge?"

Chris laughed. "If I were the Chris from a week ago, I'd be afraid of everything. But now, at this point, what do I have to be afraid of?"

Alexander remained silent.

"William, Christopher wants to kill me, and I definitely can't go back to District Nine for now. Any influence I had in the company will surely be taken away. Overnight, I not only became a fugitive and lost friends who came to help, but all my efforts in the first half of my life were in vain," Chris shook his head, his words filled with irony. "Honestly, I feel like jumping off a building right now, but I don't have the courage. If Robert really wants revenge, he'd be doing me a favor."

"What about your family?"

"I don't have parents anymore, just a woman in Pine City," Chris replied, lowering his head. "I didn't expect Terry to die. My woman is probably being watched ,too, so I definitely can't contact her for now."

"You're pretty miserable."

"Life is a gamble, but I was unlucky to have a boss like Terry," Chris said, taking out a pack of cigarettes. "Forget it, I've accepted it."

Alexander pondered for a while, then frowned and said, "Once there's a result in Pine City, you can leave anytime."

Chris took a drag of his cigarette, looked up at Alexander, and said, "Terry is dead, Tyler is dead. Unless one side defeats the other, this grudge can't be resolved."

Alexander remained silent.

"How about I stay and help you guys?" Chris suddenly asked with a smile.

"Why?" Alexander asked.

"Because I'm not willing to give up, either."

Alexander thought for a moment but didn't respond.

Chris smiled at Alexander. "I won't join empty-handed. I can invest; I still have some money."

Alexander looked up at the ceiling and clearly replied, "I don't trust you, and Robert and the others will find it hard to accept you. You should leave."

"Yeah, my current situation is pretty awkward." Chris nodded and stood up. "Alright, once there's news from Pine City, let me know, and I'll leave."

"Okay." Alexander nodded.

Chris stared at Alexander. "Thanks."

"For what?" Alexander asked.

"Thanks for standing up for me and not letting Robert kill me for revenge." Chris smiled. "Even though I know you kept me because you saw I wasn't willing to give up, I still thank you."

"Did I judge you correctly?" Alexander asked softly.

"You're too smart," Chris said, turning to leave.

Alexander lay on the bed, yawning sleepily.

A few minutes later, Andrew returned, asking, "Are you really letting Chris go? Aren't you afraid Robert will disagree?"

"Chris is already like this. What's the point of killing him? What problem would it solve?" Alexander frowned and replied, "He contributed so much to the company, but now he's a fugitive with nothing. Do you think he's willing to accept that? If you keep him around, he might strike against the Patrick family someday."

"True." Andrew nodded.

"Besides, Arthur and Carl got into trouble because of Tyler, and Benjamin was mainly caught to take the fall. So, Chris didn't play a significant role in this." Alexander sighed. "Let him go."

Andrew sat on the sofa, silent for a long time before sighing. "Robert was really hit hard this time. He hasn't recovered yet."

"If he can't recover, then Benjamin is really unlucky," Alexander commented objectively, "But I believe he can stand up again."

As they were talking, Eric walked in and said, "Alexander, Coco is really considerate. She sent two chickens to make soup for you."

"Is it cooking?" Andrew perked up like a police dog upon hearing this.

"Even if it is, it's not for you." Eric rolled his eyes. "It's for the patients, and there isn't even enough for them."

"Fuck, if there's not enough, just cook it all." Andrew stood up. "I won't eat anything else, just give me a couple of drumsticks to taste."

"Get lost."

That night.

John, who had just quietly returned from Stardust City, stood in an alley next to a gambling den and asked softly, "Is he inside?"

"Yes, he's in there." Niroshtan from Team Three nodded. "Should we grab him now?"

John thought for a moment and shook his head. "No, there are too many people inside. If we grab him now, the news will leak."

"Then should we wait?"

"Yeah, let's wait."

So, the two cars waited outside in the below-freezing weather for nearly three hours before a young man reeking of smoke finally came out of the den.

"He's out."

"How many?"

"Just him."

"Move." John ordered. "Approach from both sides and push him into the alley."

On the street, the young man was on the phone, cursing as he walked, "Damn it. I lost another hundred dollars. I won’t play tomorrow no matter what. Yeah, Terry's funeral is tomorrow, right? Okay, I'll be there. Alright, see you tomorrow."

Just as he hung up and was about to cross the street, a shout came from behind him.

"Sebastian?"

The young man paused for half a second, then suddenly started running.

A man from the left side rushed up and kicked the young man in the waist.

"Bro, you got the wrong guy." Sebastian stumbled back a few steps, his body hitting the wall.

Niroshtan swung a solid tactical baton at Sebastian's head twice and shouted, "Do you know why we're arresting you?"

"I... I don't know," Sebastian replied, his face covered in blood.

"If you don't know, why don't you ask?"

Sebastian held his head in silence.

"Drag him into the alley and stuff him in the car," John ordered, panting. "Hurry up."

Meanwhile.

Grayson, holding a phone, sat on his sofa at home and asked, "The Young family's second son agreed to meet with us, right?"
