Chapter 50 Revenge Comes
On the way to No. 88 Yard, Alexander was bonding with Emily when his phone suddenly rang in his pocket.
"Hello, Alexander?"
"There's chaos on Maple Street. It's a brawl involving hundreds of people. Samuel personally ordered all off-duty officers to return immediately to organize arrests and disperse the crowd as quickly as possible," John said urgently.
Alexander was taken aback. "I knew the Patrick family wouldn't stay quiet. Alright, wait for me. I'll be back right away."
"Okay."
After a brief conversation, they ended the call. Alexander turned to Emily and said, "You should walk back by yourself. Something's happening on Maple Street, and I have to go."
"Alright, you take care of your business. I can walk back on my own." Emily nodded immediately.
"Hurry back home. It's pretty chaotic tonight. Be careful."
"Got it. Just go ahead."
"I'm off." Alexander didn't have time for more pleasantries with Emily. He gave a few instructions and then turned and ran towards the police department.
Inside the first team’s investigation area at the department.
Acting Deputy Leader David gathered all the first team members for a meeting but didn't inform the third team members.
Next to the workbench, David held a teacup and casually said to everyone, "The situation on Maple Street is getting out of hand. These drug dealers are going crazy and don't care if you're a cop. So, when you get there, act accordingly and don't charge in recklessly."
"Understood."
"Got it."
Dozens of people listened to David's words without showing any emotion, but they all understood very well. The troublemakers on Maple Street were definitely from the Patrick family, so David was telling everyone not to take it too seriously.
After giving a few more instructions, David put down his cup and said, "Grab your riot gear and drive to the scene. Set all radios to our team's frequency. If there's anything, I'll call you."
Everyone nodded and quickly left.
On the road.
Alexander was also very aware that the troublemakers on Maple Street were likely the Patrick family and the Anderson family. So, he wanted to call Andrew to discuss how to solve the problem.
Before he could dial, his phone rang again.
"Hello?" Alexander quickly put the call through.
"Alexander, the first team had a meeting, and everyone was there except us. David didn't inform us," John said urgently, "Do we still follow the first team for tonight's case?"
Alexander pondered for a moment and said, "Drive the third team's car towards my house and pick me up first."
"Alright." John nodded.
"Tell our team not to panic. It's better that David didn't call us. It saves me the trouble of watching out for them causing problems. Remember, even if William wants to get revenge, I'll stand in front of you first." Alexander knew very well that John and Matthew, along with the third team, stood by him on Maple Street not just because they valued him, but because they understood that Samuel backed him. That's why Alexander reassured John and felt close to the third team. They were his real team, not just first-team members. This was why Alexander and Andrew thought of sharing the money they got from Benjamin with their team members.
Today, relationships between people were quite practical. If someone was willing to support you, you must ensure they got benefits in return.
"Got it, team leader. I'm on my way."
"I'm halfway there. You should see me on the roadside."
"Okay," John responded and hung up quickly.
Alexander looked down at his phone, walking briskly on the cold street. Just as he was about to call Andrew, he felt like someone was watching him from behind.
This instinct was a natural reaction formed from Alexander's stay in the uncharted areas for years, so he immediately turned around to look.
On the roadside, a man wearing a woolen hat and a dirty leather coat was walking quickly with his head down.
Alexander glanced at him and turned back to his phone.
Behind him, the footsteps became more urgent and clear.
Alexander suddenly turned around again. Meanwhile, the man in the woolen hat looked up and put his right hand into his pocket.
At this moment, they were not far apart. Alexander hesitated for a moment and then saw two men walking from the opposite side of the street.
A very bad feeling surged in Alexander's heart.
Suddenly, the man in the woolen hat pulled out a gun.
Without thinking, Alexander bent his body, pushed his shoulder forward, and charged through the glass door of a nearby storefront, rushing inside with shards of glass flying around.
Inside the store, three or four very ordinary-looking women were sitting on the sofa. They were whispering when they heard a loud crash from outside and then saw Alexander stumbling into their sight.
The women screamed, holding their heads with cheap high heels or slippers as they ran upstairs.
Alexander didn't stop after entering the room. He quickly scanned the surroundings and dashed towards the second floor.
Outside the shattered glass door, three gunmen stood on the street and pulled their triggers.
Several gunshots rang out and Alexander was shot. Yet, he still stumbled up the stairs.
"Go in and kill him," the man in the woolen hat ordered coldly.
Beside him, two burly men kicked open the door and charged inside with their guns.
In the second-floor hallway, Alexander glanced around and saw that the entire place was sealed, with no windows or back door. In haste, he kicked open a room door.
Inside, Alexander quickly surveyed the surroundings, jumped up, grabbed a nearby broken cabinet, and pulled it down hard.
The cabinet fell sideways. Alexander gritted his teeth, using his shoulder to push it to block the door.
Breathing heavily, Alexander leaned against the cabinet. He felt around his body with his right hand and found that he had been shot in the right hip, with a numbing sensation spreading through his lower body.
Without wasting any time, Alexander immediately took out his phone and dialed John's number.
"Hello?"
"Hurry, I'm about to be killed," Alexander urged but still spoke calmly and precisely, "I'm in a beef shop without a signboard in the middle of Walnut Street. The window is shattered. There are three of them... Hurry."
In the hallway, the three gunmen were already rushing up with their weapons.
In Maple Street.
A brawl involving hundreds of people had escalated into a conflict involving several hundred people.
The Anderson family showed no fear. Without a word from Benjamin, the lower-level members who had no business recently organized a self-defense counterattack due to the conflict of interests.
A large number of fringe individuals who relied on drug deals for a living got into a fight on Maple Street with weapons.
