Chapter 222 Two Unexpected Shots

At the north intersection, the folks in the car saw Eric take out the officer. They jumped out, rushing to protect Adam.

"Adam, fall back!" A big guy shoved Adam aside and stepped up, firing at Eric.

Eric dodged to the right of the car and yelled, "Ram them!"

The driver got the message, shifted gears, and swung the wheel, plowing straight into the crowd.

Eric, gun in hand, followed behind, taking down two people on the spot.

A thud echoed as the car Jessica was in got hit, sliding half a meter sideways.

The crowd scattered, some pulling Adam and running, others trying to shield Jessica and move her to the road.

"Forget everyone else, just grab Adam!" Eric shouted into his car, then stepped out and saw three people dragging Jessica, trying to flee.

Eric raised his gun and shot one of them, then moved forward.

"If you move, I'll fucking kill you." The other two turned around, sweating and trembling, guns pointed at Eric.

"You want me to drop my gun?" Eric stepped closer, "Hell no, I'm Eric. Ask William if he dares to make me drop my gun."

When Eric left Pine City, he single-handedly took down Elm Street and killed William's uncle Scott. Everyone in Pine City knew about it.

What did it mean to become a legend in one fight?

It meant no matter how long you were out of sight, people in the circle still remembered you. They talked about your feats every time they drink.

Gunshots rang out as Eric fired two shots at the ground, "Kneel down."

At the same time, a guy jumped out of the car, also holding a gun and shouting, "Kneel down!"

The two guys protecting Jessica looked panicked. Even though they had guns, they were already shaken.

The guy who jumped out of the car shot the man on the left, then smacked him with the butt of his gun.

"Get on your kneels!" Eric raised his gun and shouted again.

The other guy dropped to his knees immediately.

Eric stepped forward, kicked the thug, then kicked his gun away, pointing his gun directly at Jessica.

"Buddy, I'm just a woman. I just follow where the men go. You wouldn't..." Jessica tried to reason with Eric.

"Woman?" Eric cocked his gun, "It's women who have the cruelest hearts!"

With that, Eric hit Jessica on the head with the butt of his gun, knocking her down.

Jessica hit the ground, dazed, her eyes scanning her surroundings.

"Drag her into the car," Eric shouted, then started chasing Adam.

Up ahead on the path.

Adam ran, shouting, "Where's Jessica?"

"Adam, keep moving," the guy next to him pushed Adam and replied, "Didn't you hear? The guy on the radio said another group is at the village. Milton and David have already pulled back. We need to go now."

"Where's Andrew? Did he get killed?" Adam asked, panting.

"He got shot. David said he won't make it," the guy replied, turning to fire and block Eric.

Adam glanced guiltily towards the car but couldn't carry Jessica anymore and ran at the front of the group.

They were retreating and fighting, covering nearly two kilometers before Adam looked up and saw the base of the mountain ahead.

On the path, Eric kept his eyes on their position and shouted into his earpiece, "Robert, where the hell are you? Adam's about to hit the mountain."

"You haven't caught him yet?" Robert replied, panting.

"He's got a lot of backup," Eric snapped, raising his voice, "Forget everyone else, just get over here."

"Keep the gunfire going, I'm on my way," Robert said.

"Got it." Eric and his three companions resumed shooting.

About two minutes later, Adam, supported by others, reached a fork at the base of the mountain, with four people holding guns to block the way.

"Shit, you three cover me, I'm going in," Eric shouted to his companions, "If he gets into the mountain, we'll lose him."

Just then, a gray pickup truck roared out from the village path, heading straight for the mountain.

"Is that Robert's truck?" a young guy beside him asked.

"No," Eric shook his head without hesitation, "We don't have a truck like that."

The modified pickup with 24-inch wheels and high tires couldn't hit top speed on the icy road but could plow through it steadily.

The four people covering the retreat had just started to move when the pickup was upon them.

Inside the car, Joe pushed open the passenger door, grabbed the window frame with his left hand, and fired with his right.

A burst of gunfire took down two people, and the car hit another.

Joe stopped firing and shouted towards Eric, "Let's take him down together."

Eric hesitated for a moment, then started running forward.

At the fork at the base of the mountain.

Adam, pale-faced from running, looked back at the entrance and heard the roar of an engine. He shouted, "It's okay, someone's coming to get us. Keep running."

Just then, an off-road vehicle suddenly rushed out from the fork.

The door opened, and William, his face wrapped in bandages, waved and shouted, "Adam, get in the car."

Adam turned around, his eyes lighting up when he saw William. He ran over and shouted, "Damn, I thought you were ahead."

"Get in the car, we'll talk later," William urged urgently.

Adam, panting, reached the car and pulled open the back door, "Call David, tell him to take Milton. We're leaving tonight."

William turned around, holding a gun to Adam.

Adam felt the cold barrel against his temple and froze.

William, his face wrapped in bandages, looked at him calmly.

"What?" Adam was stunned.

"It's not my idea," William replied softly, "It's the Smith family's. They don't want you going back to Pine City and getting interrogated."

Adam's mind buzzed at these words.

"Adam, I've invested too much, I can't go down with you," William said coldly, "You were never going to get out of Pine City. I just wanted to see if you could take down Andrew, but you failed."

"You fucking..." Before Adam could finish, William pulled the trigger.

The bullet pierced his skull, and Adam staggered back, blood pouring from his temple, before collapsing to the ground.

The back door opened, and two burly men with guns shot Adam's last two men.

"Let's go," William closed the door and calmly ordered.
