Chapter 84 Quarreling Brothers Before the Battle

In the Maple Street Neon Club, Terry dragged his slightly tired body back to his residence on the top floor. He sat on the bed in a daze for a while before preparing to take off his coat, take a shower, and rest.

A sudden knock on the door startled Terry. He called out, "Who is it?"

"It's me," a familiar voice replied.

Terry was taken aback, stepped forward to open the door, and greeted William, "Come in."

"Are you about to sleep?"

"Yeah, a bit tired. I was about to take a shower and go to bed," Terry said as he closed the door, "Why did you suddenly come back today?"

"I still have to go back to the team to work on a case later," William said, grabbing a can of beer from the fridge and sitting on the sofa. "I heard you're planning to cause trouble for the Anderson family again?"

Terry sat across from him, lit a cigarette, and responded, "Yes."

William immediately shook his head and said, "I disagree."

"Disagree with what?" Terry was puzzled.

"I disagree with you continuing going after the Anderson family," William said, taking a sip of beer, "I don't think we need to rush right now."

"Don't need to rush?" Terry responded with a frown, "Our sales dropped by thirty percent this week. Do you know what that means? It means our entire drug line team's operating costs are skyrocketing. At today's company meeting, everyone looked very unhappy. It's not just me who's anxious; the whole company is. Understand?"

"These people aren't anxious for the company's sake," William retorted, putting down his beer. "The old-timers around you only care about money. When sales drop, they get less, so they pressure you to go after the Anderson family. But you're the leader; you can't look at the problem from just one angle. You have to consider the big picture. Last time we hit the Anderson family, our relationship with the police department was already strained. Now, if you make another move, what will they think? They won't think the managers have issues; they'll question your ability to handle things."

"Nonsense!" Terry, already in a low mood, was now furious. He stood up and shouted, "Do you think things are the same as before? In the past, if you committed a crime, you might not even make it out of the city before getting caught. But is it the same now? Eric killed someone and disappeared into the unplanned area. Do we have any way to deal with that? The ground-level conflicts involving interests are inherently bloody. You understand this, I understand this, and the higher-ups understand this even more. To defeat the Anderson family, there must be a price. This is inevitable, and we have to face it. Otherwise, they'll take our market and swallow our space to survive."

"Terry, your thinking is outdated. You're still using old methods to deal with conflicts of interest," William said, standing his ground. "I've told you more than once, the nine districts, including the unplanned area, will eventually have a complete system. If we keep seeking a life-or-death approach to every problem, we'll be eliminated sooner or later."

Terry, hands on his hips, looked at his brother and asked, "Then tell me, what method won't be eliminated? Right now, I want you to solve the problem of declining sales. Give me a reasonable plan immediately."

"We can let the Anderson family develop, temporarily give up part of the market, and let them expand quickly," William responded without hesitation.

Terry was stunned for a long time and asked in disbelief, "Say that again. Let the Anderson family do what?"

"Let them expand quickly and take over the market."

"Impossible!" Terry shouted, jumping up in rage. "If the market is taken, how will you get it back later? We lost so much in the Black Street District to build up the drug line business, and now you want to give it up? Are you joking, or are you drunk?"

"I'm serious," William responded, his eyes gleaming. "If the Anderson family takes over the market, who will be more anxious than you? Have you thought about that?"

Terry was taken aback.

"Let me tell you, if the Anderson family rises in Pine City, the most anxious people won't be us but several pharmaceutical companies. because if an illegal drug supplier rises, it means the pharmaceutical companies we cooperate with might have their business across the nine districts impacted. Understand?" William said, spreading his hands and shouting excitedly, "So, we don't need to confront the Anderson family directly. We just need to wait for them to expand quickly, let the pharmaceutical companies take action themselves, and use their powerful connections to take down the Anderson family. This way, we don't have to confront the Anderson family directly; we just need to follow up and strike, which will be enough to destroy them. The pharmaceutical companies might even take down Samuel in the process."

Terry was silent for a long time and then suddenly asked, "But after the pharmaceutical companies deal with the Anderson family and Samuel, if they think we were too weak in this matter and didn't effectively fight back, they might switch partners. What do we do then? If we lose the market and our initial investment, what do we do?"

"Trust me, the pharmaceutical companies will guess our intentions but won't switch partners because our local political connections are unmatched. Only by working with us can they achieve complete control and avoid many troubles," William insisted.

Terry shook his head. "Your plan is too risky. I don't agree with doing it this way. If we lose the current market and reputation, we'll be in a slump in the short term. And if the company doesn't make an effective counterattack, the higher-ups won't be satisfied and might cause big problems. Because their losses are real, and that's enough to cause anger."

"Terry, you need to take a firm stand. I've told you before, these higher-ups, although they helped you in the past, had also brought a lot of trouble. They always stick together, seemingly obedient to you, but that's based on the wealth you bring them." William tried to persuade him further.

"This matter is not up for discussion. I'll follow Chris's plan," Terry interrupted.

"Terry, don't be so stubborn."

"Stop yelling at me. I'm already very tired and don't want to argue with you," Terry shouted, smashing a glass. "Can you let me have a good night's sleep?"

William looked at Terry, speechless for a long time, and then sighed. "Fine, I won't say anything more. Do whatever you want."

With that, William left in anger, slamming the door without even changing his shoes.

On the sofa, Terry sighed deeply. "Who can see my difficulties? Even my own brother doesn't understand."

The next morning.

Robert was sleeping when he received a call from a friend claiming that David wanted to meet with him to resolve the previous misunderstandings between the two and discuss the drug line issue.
