Chapter 165 A State of Chaos
In the coffee room, the light was dim. They sat face to face, barely clarifying each other's outlines, let alone their expressions.
Adam walked in, shook hands, and exchanged a few pleasantries before taking the main seat.
"Adam, how do you handle your son? He's grown, but still chasing women."
"Well, like father, like son. Adam was quite the player back in the day."
Everyone sipped their coffee, cracking jokes.
Adam rubbed his bald head and grinned. "Yeah, my biggest regret is not getting an education, so I don't know how to teach kids."
The room fell silent.
Adam took a sip of coffee, turned his head, and spat on the floor. "Let's cut the jokes. I found out the Black Street District has a plan to deal with Zephyr. If I handle it alone, it's gonna be tough."
"Zephyr's doing business with William from the Patrick family, so no wonder someone in Black Street has it out for him," a middle-aged man on the left said softly.
"It's not about liking him or not; let's talk about results," Adam sniffed and then shouted, "Bring the stuff in."
Two attendants at the door signaled to their companions outside.
Three young men walked in with briefcases, placed them in the middle of the room, and opened them to reveal bundles of cash.
Adam coughed twice and said, "I'm straightforward. Don't waste time. There's $100,000 here. Whoever helps me with my son's problem can take it."
"You're so crude, Adam. Even in a suit, you look like a thug," a burly man joked with a grin.
Adam laughed. "Everyone here has a status, but let me ask, has anyone here reached the level of a savior? Anyone?"
"Haha!"
Laughter filled the room.
That night.
When Alexander arrived in Stardust City, one of the top criminal lawyers from Pine City was already in the prison's interrogation room.
Soon, Zephyr, with shackles on his feet, dark circles under his eyes, and covered in minor injuries, sat inside the iron bars.
"Are you okay?" the lawyer asked, adjusting his glasses.
"If you hadn't come, I might've been killed," Zephyr frowned. "How soon can I get out?"
"Did you say anything?" the lawyer asked.
"No." Zephyr shook his head. "I'm not stupid. If no one from home comes, why would I say anything?"
"Good." The lawyer opened his ultra-thin laptop. "I'll talk, you listen."
"Go ahead." Zephyr nodded, rubbing the bruises on his arm.
"That night, you and the victim Lily agreed on a price. You agreed to pay her $1,000, and she agreed to have sex with you..." the lawyer began to explain in a low voice to Zephyr.
Over an hour later.
John drove to the prison, furiously shouting at the officer in charge, "What do you mean? Didn't I tell you his status is special? Before the prosecution files charges, don't let anyone see him!"
"Bro, don't blame me," the officer responded helplessly, "It was his lawyer who visited him. He has the right to see his lawyer during the investigation."
John was speechless.
"Bro, it's tough for you, but it's not easy for us either," the officer said, hands in his pockets. "He's been here less than 24 hours, and my phone's almost dead from all the calls. My wife at home has already received three batches of gifts..."
John frowned, calming down a bit. "Was there a recording when the lawyer saw him?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"I have a hundred reasons. Which one do you want to hear?" the officer replied helplessly.
"Damn it," John cursed. "Fine, let them. The evidence is ironclad. What can a lawyer do?"
The next morning.
Niroshtan's officers followed standard procedures and conducted the first interrogation of Zephyr.
"On the night of the incident, you intended to rape Lily..."
"Who told you I was going to rape her?" Zephyr yawned and interrupted, tilting his head. "That night, we agreed on a price. I agreed to pay her $1,000, and she willingly followed me into the private room..."
"Bullshit, someone saw you dragging her into the room."
"Did anyone see me tearing her clothes off?" Zephyr asked, expressionless.
Niroshtan officer Xavier Hernandez, with a grim face, pointed at Zephyr. "Your sophistry is useless. We found human skin cells under the victim's nails. They match your DNA, which means you had a violent physical altercation."
"You still don't get it," Zephyr said nonchalantly. "Let me tell you the facts. That night, just as I was about to have fun with Lily, her husband barged in. He found us getting ready to have sex and got furious. He started beating Lily. I'm a kind-hearted person and can't stand seeing a man hit a woman, so I tried to break it up. During that time, I had physical contact with both of them. But listen carefully, I was just breaking it up, not intentionally hurting anyone."
"The broken wine bottle used in the murder has your fingerprints on it!" Xavier shouted angrily.
Zephyr smiled and stared at Xavier. "What are wine bottles for? They're for holding wine, right? I'm a customer at Barbie Club. Is it strange that my fingerprints are on a bottle?"
Xavier was stunned.
"That night, I saw Lily get desperate from being beaten by her husband. She panicked and hit him on the back of the head with the bottle. Her husband lost control and kicked her in the face. Lily, holding the bottle, stabbed Dominic in the neck." Zephyr squinted his eyes. "I was so scared that I almost wet my pants."
"You think you can talk your way out of this..."
"You'll know this afternoon if I'm talking my way out." Zephyr shook his head. "I'm tired. I don't want to talk anymore."
At exactly 1 PM.
The police department called and ordered the Black Street District police to process Zephyr's bail.
The Black Street District police initially refused, citing the prosecution's involvement.
An hour later, the prosecution notified the Black Street District police that Zephyr was a member of the Riverside District Council and an outstanding youth, so he could be granted bail before the trial but must be restricted from leaving the country.
As soon as this result came out, John immediately called Alexander.
At the same time, Uriel, who had been following the case closely, rushed to the Black Street District police station in anger and confusion after receiving the news.
Around 4 PM.
Alexander, with a very grim face, returned to the station with several newly assigned trainees and angrily went to Samuel's office.
