Chapter 143 The Compromise of Adults
The next day, in the evening.
Hunter Cole, a council member of the Ninth District Police Department, personally invited Christopher to dinner in the suburbs, without calling anyone else to join them.
At the dinner table, Christopher didn't mention what had happened at his home, and Hunter didn't steer the conversation in that direction either. They just chatted casually about personnel changes in Stardust City and had a few drinksAfter eating and drinking, Hunter picked up a white napkin to wipe the corner of his mouth and suddenly smiled, saying, "Look at me. I almost finished with dinner and I just remembered there's a friend here who wants to meet you. I'll call him over."
"Who is it?" Christopher asked while sipping his soup.
"You'll know when you see him." Hunter smiled and sent a text message on his phone.
About ten minutes later, Samuel walked in with a cheerful smile.
"Come on, Samuel, let me introduce you to the big boss of pharmaceuticals in Stardust City," Hunter said without getting up, gesturing from his seat. "Christopher Young, the owner of The VitaPharm Company."
"Hello, Mr. Young." Samuel extended his hand.
"Christopher, this is Samuel from the Black Street District Police Department in Pine City," Hunter said with a smile, "You should have heard of him."
Christopher was slightly stunned, then his face turned grim as he stood up and said, "Hunter, I'll treat you to dinner another day. I have something to take care of at home, so I need to leave."
Hunter immediately stood up and pressed Christopher's shoulders with both hands. "What's the rush? Sit down for a bit!"
Christopher looked at Hunter with a stern face. "Something just happened at my home, but you introduce me to a friend like this? Not very appropriate, is it?"
Hunter bent down and whispered in Christopher's ear, "To be honest, I really didn't want to have this dinner today, but a lot of people came to me. Christopher, if this continues, it will be a lose-lose situation."
Christopher was taken aback by these words.
"You two have a chat, and I'll step out for some fresh air." Hunter patted Christopher's shoulder and left the private room.
In the dimly lit room, Christopher sat in his chair, silent.
"Let me toast you." Samuel put down the file he was holding and said softly, "Take a look at this."
Christopher didn't move.
Samuel bent down and poured a full glass of wine, then turned to Christopher and said, "No one wants accidents to happen, but they still do. From the perspective of us being peers, I understand how you feel. I'll drink first."
After saying that, Samuel, who wasn't good at drinking, tilted his head back and downed the glass in one go.
Christopher crossed his arms and asked in a low voice, "Tyler is gone, but you think a drink will settle it. What are you thinking?"
Samuel coughed twice, wiped the corner of his mouth, and replied, "Then what do you want?"
"No one else who participated can get away," Christopher pointed at Samuel and said, "Including you, who gave advice from behind the scenes."
"Your ambitions are quite big." Samuel smiled and patted the file he had placed on the table earlier. "It seems the news from Pine City hasn't reached you yet."
Christopher was slightly stunned.
"The counterfeit drug case has been solved. Besides Todd and Chris, who were directly involved, all other suspects have been arrested." Samuel pushed the file forward and said softly, "I advise you to take a look."
Christopher stared at Samuel for a while, then finally opened the file and skimmed through its contents.
Samuel lit a cigarette and waited quietly for about ten minutes.
After Christopher read the contents of the file, his expression remained unchanged as he asked, "Are you trying to threaten me?"
"If you keep pushing, I'll bring the matter to Stardust City," Samuel said succinctly, "Todd was killed by Tyler, and before he shot Todd, he injured one of his own people because they couldn't stop Robert from escaping. If I find this person, who do you think he'll help?"
Christopher was stunned.
"Todd, the key figure in the counterfeit drug case, was silenced in Stardust City, and the officers I sent to investigate were violently attacked by some people from The VitaPharm Company. If these details are made public by the police, how will The VitaPharm Company explain it to the market, patients, patients' families, and the general public?" Samuel asked while smoking.
Christopher looked at Samuel calmly, his hands crossed, still silent.
Samuel flicked the ash from his cigarette, leaned forward, and said, "Christopher, you're a big shot. You have money and connections. If anyone had any other way, they wouldn't have gone after your child, right? You think we're clowns, always causing you trouble in the dark, but don't you see that you forced us first? To put it bluntly, if Tyler had left any room for maneuver, he wouldn't have died. He had no way out, so he fought back. Benjamin, who killed Tyler, could have escaped but chose not to. Isn't that enough respect for you? Doesn't that show your power? I advise you to let it go. If you keep pushing, not only will I fight back to protect myself, but those kids who escaped won't sit idly by either. If you don't let them live, you won't have it easy either. Think about it, you still have two sons."
Christopher laughed. "Are you threatening me?"
"Christopher, I'm more scared than you, believe it or not," Samuel said, looking at him with a sincere expression. "Things have come to this point; who can threaten whom? What I'm saying is just the inevitable truth. But if you insist on fighting, I'll definitely be more scared than you, really."
Christopher slowly stood up, picked up his coat, and walked straight to the door. "Don't think about saving Benjamin; he must pay for my son's life. If the Anderson family dares to continue distributing drugs in Pine City within the next eight months, this won't end."
Samuel listened to these words and let out a long sigh, but he also knew that Christopher's concession was only temporary. He was currently somewhat apprehensive about the things Samuel had in his hands, so he didn't dare to go all out. But the hatred of losing a son wouldn't disappear because of a few words.
An hour later.
Samuel, on his way to the Stardust City station to return to Pine City, dialed Alexander's number.
"Hello? Samuel."
"We talked, and there won't be any changes for now," Samuel said softly. "Take a long vacation and recover in River State."
"Can Matthew be saved?" Alexander asked after a moment of silence.
"He won't die."
"What about Benjamin?" Alexander asked again.
Samuel sighed at the question and didn't respond.
The next day.
Raymond was drinking heavily in a bar in Pine City. "I thought I was being righteous, but I didn't expect to harm Grayson."
Enrique, his face flushed and eyes glazed, said, "I was wrong, I was all wrong. Maybe William is more suited to be a leader than Terry."
As he finished speaking, four burly men walked in from outside, led by Joe, who had previously interacted with Alexander and others in River State. He glanced at Raymond and casually led his men upstairs.
At the same time, Benjamin was taken from the police hospital and sent to the special prison in Stardust City.
The special prison, built during a riot in the early days of the Ninth District, was habitually called the "Dead Man's Prison" by the old residents of Stardust City.
