Chapter 58 To Meet at River State
The boss on the other end of the phone paused for a moment. "Why did he suddenly contact you?"
"He said he wanted to restart the drug supply line and get goods from us," Alex Young responded swiftly, "I tested him a bit, and he said he'd already made a deal with people from the Anderson family, and that Samuel from the Black Street District police was backing him. From what I gathered, all that's left is for us to agree."
"Alex, do you know about Paul’s family situation?" the boss suddenly asked.
"More or less, because Paul has told me some things about his family." Alex nodded. "When I talked to that kid earlier, the information he provided matched what I know. Some details can be checked, but some life details can only be known by someone who has spent a lot of time with him. So, I think the kid isn't lying. He should be Paul's younger brother."
The boss fell silent.
"Do you think I should meet him?" Alex tentatively asked after waiting for a while. "The market in Pine City has been taken down, and we've lost an important supply channel. In less than two months, I've got quite a bit of inventory piling up here, so I think it would be good to get in touch with him. If he really can pull this off, we wouldn’t need to re-establish our presence in Pine City."
"It's a bit risky." The boss shook his head slightly. "What if Paul's brother is already under the control of the Patrick family? If he was deliberately setting a trap for you, how would you handle it? I'm not afraid of Terry from Pine City, but I am afraid of the pharmaceutical company backing him. We're producing drugs illegally, which has disrupted their market in various places. So, the Patrick family, the pharmaceutical company, and all the connections they've paid off are all eager to find us and eliminate us."
"It shouldn't be that bad." Alex frowned tightly. "I did some digging into the situation in Pine City. Paul’s brother, Eric, killed Terry's uncle and a high-level member named George, which forced him to flee the Ninth District. Such a grudge is generally irreconcilable."
"Does this Eric have any family left?" the boss asked.
"Yes, he has a mother and a sister."
"If Terry has already controlled these two, is there a chance Eric would cooperate with them?" the boss asked again.
Alex was silent upon hearing this.
"We don't fully understand the specifics of Pine City. If Eric is currently under control, then the moment you show up, you'll definitely be watched. They don't need to act against you immediately. Just by finding your connection, they can find us," the boss said cautiously, "If we are exposed, given our current capabilities, we would be doomed facing the combined forces of several pharmaceutical companies and political connections."
Hearing this, Alex hesitated.
"As long as we can continue producing drugs, there will always be a market in these times. Currently, we are much weaker compared to several officially recognized pharmaceutical companies, so we need to be especially cautious—survival first, then development," the boss advised softly, "I don't recommend taking the risk of contacting Eric. You'd better lay low and temporarily give up on Pine City."
At this moment, Alex had two thoughts. First, he had a very good relationship with Paul; otherwise, Paul wouldn't have given his contact information to Eric when he sensed trouble. So, Alex wanted to help Eric. Second, Alex's role in the illegal drug production team was to manage regional markets. Pine City had always been his responsibility. If it was cut off in the future, he would not only lose a significant amount of economic benefits but also face a decline in his status within the team.
So, after much deliberation, Alex gritted his teeth and continued to argue, "I don't think Eric will be a problem because I've heard that Samuel from the Black Street District indeed has a conflict with William. Moreover, it took us a lot of effort to establish the Pine City line initially. I really don't want to give it up just like that."
"So, what do you mean?"
"I want to get in touch with Eric," Alex said through gritted teeth, "But don't worry. If he has bad intentions, it will stop with me. I will never implicate the company."
The boss was silent for a while before responding softly, "Alright, if that's the case, then follow my instructions. Do it this way."
Half an hour later, Eric answered the ringing phone, "Hello?"
"We can meet." Alex got straight to the point. "Three days later, I'll be waiting for you in the Lincoln District of the River State planned area. There's a Velvet Sky Club in the district. You must be there by 8 PM."
Eric was taken aback. "River State? It's a bit far from here. I'm afraid I can't make it in three days."
"If you don’t dawdle on the way, you'll have enough time," Alex replied firmly, "I'll wait for you for three days."
"Alright, I got it."
"That's it," Alex said before hanging up decisively.
Inside the room, Alexander looked at Eric and asked urgently, "How did it go? What did he say?"
"He agreed to meet, but in River State, and he wants us there within three days," Eric replied with a frown, "Time is a bit tight."
Andrew cursed upon hearing this, "River State is quite far from here, and we haven't met this person before. We're going there based solely on a phone number. If he has bad intentions, it will be hard for us to come back safely."
Holding the phone, Eric turned to the two and said, "Whether it's a banquet or a trap, I have to go; otherwise, I'll never have a chance to turn things around."
Alexander turned to Andrew. "Andrew, you have connections. You don't have to go."
"Nonsense! The drug supply deal concerns Samuel's life and death. If you two are risking it, how can I not?" Andrew responded without hesitation.
"The clock is ticking. Since we've all decided to go, let's not hesitate," Alexander nodded and instructed, "Get everything arranged for your mom and Sophia, and we'll set off tonight."
"Alright!" Eric nodded.
That night, Alexander called his friend Tom, who arranged for Eric's mother and Sophia to temporarily stay with another family and paid for their meals.
After settling them, the three of them spent a high price to buy four large barrels of gasoline from a fuel dealer before driving towards the planned area in River State.
This time, none of the three had any room to retreat. Each person's life and future depended on whether they could secure a drug supplier.
In chaotic times, the land was separated. Bandits emerged and rose abruptly.
The three men, supporting each other in desperate circumstances, truly embarked on their journey from this day forward.
