Chapter 124 Anxious and Finally Out

"Hello?" Alexander answered the phone and inquired, "Who's this?"

"Are you trying to get out?" a man bluntly asked on the other end, "I was busy earlier and couldn't take your call."

Alexander was overjoyed upon hearing this. "Yes, we are trying to get out. Can we leave now?"

"Where are you?" the other person asked.

Alexander hesitated for a moment but didn't respond.

"Fuck, don't be scared. I just want to know if you're close to the checkpoint," the other person added lazily, noticing Alexander's hesitation. "Never mind》 I'll give you an address. Just come over."

"Can we leave tonight?" Alexander asked.

"Yes."

"Alright, give me the address."

"Write this down..." The other person gave an address and then hung up.

South Village was very close to the checkpoint, which was why Alexander had chosen this place to rob Chris. After walking through the wasteland for about half an hour, they saw a tall wall similar to a border wall.

In the middle of the wall, a grand concrete pillar had the words "Ninth District Stardust City Capital" written on it. Below was a 30-foot-wide road, some visible electric fences, and seven or eight military vehicles.

Alexander and his group squatted in the snow on both sides of the road to rest for a bit before dialing the number from earlier.

"Hello, we're at the place you mentioned."

"Do you see the exit building on the left side of the road?" It was noisy around the other person, so he shouted the question.

"Yes, I see it." Alexander nodded.

"Go to the garage behind the building. I'll come to get you."

"Okay." Alexander hesitated. "Should we just walk over?"

"Yes, just walk over."

"What if we run into patrols?" Alexander asked, feeling a bit skeptical.

"Fuck, just come over. It's fine," the other person responded nonchalantly, "The ones on duty tonight are our people. It's fine."

"Alright."

"Okay then." The other person hung up quickly.

Alexander squatted in place, thinking for a while, still feeling uneasy. He then called Samuel and asked, "Samuel, is your contact reliable? I feel like he's a bit unreliable; he didn't even answer the call."

"The military system is different from the local system. They're used to doing things their own way," Samuel replied softly, "I got a senior to handle this. It should be fine."

"Alright, I got it." Alexander nodded. "We're getting ready to leave."

"Okay."

With that, Alexander hung up, turned around, and said, "Let's go, straight ahead."

Twenty minutes later, the group followed the deep ditch by the roadside, bypassed the exit building, and arrived near the garage.

Worried about running into patrols, Alexander contacted the other person again.

After waiting for a while, a figure hurried over from the back of the exit building, holding a flashlight in his right hand, and shouted, "Where are you?"

Alexander hesitated for a moment and then stood up "Here."

The figure shone the flashlight in Alexander's direction, looking surprised. "So many people? I thought it was just a few."

"There was an incident, so there are a few more," Alexander said, carefully observing the soldier.

He was wearing a thin winter military uniform and casual leather boots and smelled strongly of smoke, not at all like someone on duty.

"Come on in." the soldier opened the small gate in the fence and waved them in.

Alexander bent down and went in, asking in a low voice, "Are you on duty?"

"Yes. What's wrong?" the soldier nodded.

Alexander looked at the soldier's attire again, showing a puzzled expression.

"Do you think I'm dressed wrong?" the soldier noticed Alexander's look and laughed. "Do you know what unit this is? This is the Capital Garrison Brigade, stationed at the checkpoint. Even the mayor can't question how we do our job."

Alexander frowned at the soldier's arrogance but said nothing.

"Wait in the garage for a bit. When the vehicle arrives, I'll get you on it," the soldier yawned and instructed.

Following the soldier, Alexander asked, "Why didn't you answer my call earlier?"

"The damn inspection office did a surprise inspection, asking about some smuggling issue. They called our whole shift in for questioning," the young soldier replied casually, "We were scared and hid our communication devices."

"With such strict inspections, can we still leave tonight?" Alexander asked, surprised.

"The inspection is just for show, trying to get some money from our unit." The soldier waved his hand. "It's fine. The higher-ups have settled it. Everything is as usual."

Alexander nodded, somewhat understanding.

A few minutes later, the soldier opened the garage door and waved them in. "There's water inside. Sit for a while. When the vehicle arrives, you'll get on and leave."

"Thank you." Alexander nodded. "About the payment..."

"No need. The exit fee has been covered. Just wait here," the soldier said and then left, locking the door.

In the brightly lit garage, Chris sat on a chair, gulping down a bottle of water. "The Garrison Brigade has a lot of autonomy, but this guy seems unreliable."

"Indeed." Andrew nodded.

"Samuel couldn't personally pick who would send us out," Alexander replied, "This is all about connections. We need to stay alert. Once we're out and a bit away from Stardust City, we'll get off."

"If I knew the control was so loose, we wouldn't have ditched those long guns." Benjamin asked with some regret, "How many guns do we have left?"

"Six or seven short ones."

"Distribute them and get ready."

"Okay."

Everyone started preparing.

Seeing everyone getting ready, Alexander moved to the side and sent a few text messages on his phone.

In the garage.

Everyone waited anxiously, not fully trusting the soldier. After about an hour, they heard the roar of engines outside.

The garage door opened, and four military trucks lined up in the yard. The soldier, with a cigarette in his mouth, waved and shouted, "Time to go."

"Let's go."

Alexander called out, leading the group to the last military truck.

In the canvas-covered truck bed, Alexander moved aside some stacks of military coats and looked inside. "This is a clothing transport."

"I'm riding with you," the soldier shouted, "Lie on the coats and sleep for a couple of hours. You'll be there soon."

"Alright." Alexander nodded.

The truck bed door was locked, and soon, they were on their way.

At the checkpoint, Benjamin, Chris, and the others held their guns, too nervous to breathe.

But the military truck passed through without inspection, crossing three checkpoints and entering the unplanned area.

Only then did everyone breathe a sigh of relief. Andrew grinned and muttered, "What kind of department is the Garrison? So arrogant?"

"They're mainly responsible for the capital's defense. What do you think?" Chris replied, visibly more relaxed.

In front of the VitaPharm Company building, two cars stopped, and Christopher stepped out.

"Mr. Young!"

Terry, who had been waiting, ran over.

Christopher frowned and glanced at the other person, not bothering to talk to him, and headed straight for the lobby.

"Mr. Young, I made a mistake. Please give me a chance to make it right," Terry shouted from behind, "If you don't use us, VitaPharm won't be able to reclaim the Pine City market."

Christopher pondered for a moment before stopping and turning around.
