Chapter 75 Covert Struggle Turns Overt

Back to Pine City.

Alexander and Andrew drove back to House 88 with the kid they had picked up on the way.

Inside the house, Alexander took off the kid's stinky clothes and tossed them by the door. He then splashed some cold water on his face.

"What do you plan to do with this kid? Are you going to let him stay here permanently?" Andrew asked casually.

Alexander wiped his face with a towel and shook his head. "I don't have time to take care of him. Once he's better, I'll ask John if he can find some odd jobs for him in Pine City. Justenough for him to survive."

"Finding some odd jobs is doable, but he doesn't have a residence permit. He could be kicked out at any time," Andrew pondered for a moment and said, "Forget it. I'll ask around for you. I know some bosses who work inside and outside the district. They don't go deep into the unplanned areas, but they come and go often. He could get a temporary residence permit every thirty days."

"That works. Since we picked up the kid, help me figure something out." Alexander nodded.

"Shall we go? We need to head back to the precinct; Samuel is waiting."

"Alright, let's go."

After a brief discussion, the two locked the door and left House 88.

In the afternoon, inside the precinct chief's office.

Samuel looked at Alexander with satisfaction and said, "Have a seat."

Alexander grinned and sat in the chair opposite. "Samuel, did you just come back from Stardust City?"

"Yes." Samuel tossed a cigarette to Alexander and said in a steady voice, "I've finished the business in Stardust City. But next, you need to tell the Anderson family to keep a low profile. The higher-ups want to see the profits first, not a bunch of problems."

"I understand." Alexander nodded and asked softly, "Since the drug line is re-established, can we start working on Robert's case?"

Samuel pondered for a moment and replied, "Yes, you can proceed, but make sure everything is flawless. William might keep an eye on you for a while."

"Got it. I have a clear understanding in my mind." Alexander nodded.

Samuel took a puff of his cigarette, smiled, and opened a drawer. He took out two certificates and the corresponding shoulder and arm patches. "Take a look."

Alexander was momentarily stunned. He took what Samuel handed him, glanced at them, and grinned. "Thanks, Chief. I got promoted to Level 2 Officer so quickly."

"From today, your team is officially transferred to Team Four, and you are the leader of Team Three. Go and hand over with William," Samuel smiled at Alexander and continued softly, "Stay in Team Four for a while. I'll transfer the captain later and let you act as the interim captain, and then gradually make it official."

Alexander knew his promotion wasn't just because of Andrew or Samuel's appreciation but because he and Eric, along with Andrew, had risked their lives in River State. From this moment, Alexander felt he had connections and a background.

"Thank you, Samuel," Alexander said sincerely.

"No need to thank me; you earned it." Samuel waved his hand, "Go ahead. I'll have the office prepare the handover documents. As for the dormitory reassignment, talk to Olivia in logistics."

Alexander stood up and nodded. "Got it."

"Do well; you will go far," Samuel said with a smile, puffing on his cigarette.

"Got it." Alexander nodded and left.

Half an hour later, in Team Three's dormitory.

Alexander sat on the bed, looking at Robert's file, and spoke on the phone, "Yes, Samuel has briefed me. Follow my instructions, let Daniel take the fall, and tell Robert not to say anything. The prosecution will be handled by Samuel. Yes, Daniel will be charged with illegal possession. He won't die but should be prepared for about fifteen years. No, don't have the lawyer contact me; have him meet with Daniel directly. Alright, go ahead."

After ending the call, Matthew entered with a gloomy face, "Why does David act like he lost his mother? I really want to scrub his mouth with a steel wool pad."

The handover should have been done by Alexander, but he didn't want to deal with William and sent Matthew instead, which led to issues.

"What happened?" Alexander asked.

Matthew loosened his collar and responded with a grim face, "During the big raid on Maple Street, you got into trouble at the butcher shop. When we came to rescue you, we used some team guns and ammo, plus two grenades. David said it wasn't pre-approved and didn't match the records, so he wants a detailed report, or he'll file a complaint with the precinct."

"What can he do even if he files a complaint?" Alexander, new to the job, didn't fully understand the rules.

"All equipment, guns, and ammo used during operations need to be approved to ensure strict management," Matthew explained in a low voice, "But given the current chaotic environment, encountering cases or sudden situations during patrols, occasional equipment and ammo loss is normal. But now he's making a fuss, saying the equipment was approved by Team One, and we used it without matching the records, so he can't explain it to logistics."

"This guy's vision is limited to office politics," Alexander cursed in frustration, "Ignore him; if he wants to cause trouble, let him."

"No, Captain," Matthew quickly advised, "Ammo usage must be reported to the precinct to prevent officers from hoarding important equipment and weapons. If David causes trouble and writes nonsense in the file, you might get disciplined."

Alexander frowned, got up, and cursed, "He's really annoying. Let's go see him."

A while later, Matthew and Alexander returned to Team One's office area.

David was sitting with his legs crossed, watching a live stream on his computer.

Alexander approached patiently and patted his shoulder. "David, are you busy?"

David turned around and glanced at Alexander. "Isn't it Alexander? Congrats on your promotion to Level 2!"

"I'm still far behind you." Alexander smiled and got straight to the point. "I'm here to ask when we can complete the handover."

"I want to finish quickly too, but the butcher shop case was unclear. I checked the scene and didn't see where the grenades were used," David responded indifferently.

Alexander pondered for a moment, then leaned in and whispered in David's ear, "David, those two grenades weren't used; I hid them. Someone keeps targeting me, so I need weapons for protection. Do you want one? I can get you one sometime."

David's face darkened, and he stood up slowly, "Are you trying to scare me?"

Alexander smiled. "Are you scared or not?"
