Chapter 138 Explosive Counterattack

Ten hours after Sebastian was captured, it was already the next morning. John took his team members to have a simple meal and then drove out for another police mission.

On the road

John said to Alexander on the phone, "Everything's going smoothly. Once we nab a few more henchmen, we'll be able to catch David soon."

"Make sure no information leaks out," Alexander reminded him.

"I know. When we brought them in, I interrogated them in isolation," John nodded and asked softly, "But today is Terry's funeral. David will definitely be there. Are we going to make a move on him at the funeral?"

"Yeah," Alexander replied succinctly.

"Got it." John nodded.

"Stay safe."

"Understood."

Before his death, Terry was extremely influential, and even in death, he was honored grandly. His passing was a boon for the funeral industry, with a scale that could be described as the Ferrari of funerals.

Everyone who was anyone in Pine City attended. Cars rarely seen on the streets lined up in a long queue at the entrance. Over a hundred people, all dressed in black, made the funeral appear very solemn.

But this grandeur was just for showing among insiders. Terry had risen to power through violent monopolies. Though wealthy, his personal reputation was mediocre. Many who heard of his death had very objective evaluations.

"God bless."

"Pine City dawns."

"Serves him right!"

Yes, when alive, people were competitive and full of desires, but after death, all they got were a few comments like these.

Halfway through the funeral, David hurried to the front and whispered in William's ear, "Something's wrong."

"What?" William asked, wiping his tears.

"Sebastian was caught, and the fake drug operation was busted."

William was stunned for a moment. "Who told you?"

"Someone from our police department," David said with a serious expression, looking anxious. "I've confirmed the news. John was interrogating Sebastian in the backyard."

William clenched his fist upon hearing this.

"I was involved in Todd's matter, too," David asked urgently, "Now that the fake drug operation is busted, it means Sebastian has confessed. Does that mean I'm exposed, too?"

"I'm going to kill that Chris sooner or later." William quickly grasped the key point.

"What should I do?"

"Run for now. Don't contact anyone in the police department," William instructed in a low voice, "I'll call you after the funeral."

"Okay." David nodded. "I'm leaving now."

"Alright."

With that, David quickly left the crowd and disappeared down the street.

When Eric left, he was extremely angry and said that if God ever gave him a chance to stand up again, he would make sure the area north of Pine City was filled with the Patrick family's graves.

Now, although the Patrick family wasn't completely wiped out, Terry was indeed buried in a public cemetery north of Pine City, ironically fulfilling Eric's words.

Karma?

Perhaps.

After the funeral, William hurried back to the Neon Club on Maple Street. As soon as he walked in, Raymond approached and asked, "Did something happen to David? He just told me the police were looking for him."

"Who came?"

"John," Raymond replied softly, "He came with people and guns."

William, with a grim face, replied softly, "Chris must have told them about the fake drugs. They followed the trail and caught him. David got the news and ran ahead of time."

"That damn Chris!" Raymond cursed, rubbing his bald head. "He really has no sense of loyalty."

"It's too late to talk about this now." William glanced around to make sure no one was nearby, then whispered, "If they clear up the fake drug matter, we're done for."

"You mean our plan to set up the Anderson family will be exposed!" Raymond asked, understanding immediately.

"Absolutely," William responded without hesitation, "As long as Samuel isn't an idiot, he'll make the case details public. This way, the Anderson family will be cleared of selling fake drugs. But us? We'll be the unscrupulous businessmen who used any means to grab the market."

Raymond licked his lips and quickly asked, "Can it be remedied? Should I send someone to find Sebastian's family?"

"It's no use." William shook his head. "It's definitely too late."

"Damn it!" Raymond cursed, hands on his hips, looking frustrated. "I've been busy with the company and Terry's funeral these past few days. I didn't think to protect Sebastian."

"Raymond," William turned around, his voice trembling, "I'm not afraid of anything else right now. I'm just afraid someone inside will betray us."

Raymond was stunned.

"If the case details are made public, our situation will be much worse than the Anderson family's," William explained anxiously, "To grab the market, we deliberately set up our competitors and even killed two innocent patients. Do you realize the gravity of this?"

"Do you think Christopher will abandon us?" Raymond asked directly.

"No, I'm not afraid of him." William shook his head. "Christopher's youngest son just died. He definitely doesn't have the energy to focus on us right now. But if someone contacts him and tells him about our situation, then the company..."

"It can't happen," Raymond interrupted immediately, "Grayson may be greedy, but he's been our brother for years. Even if he wants to compete in the future, I don't think he'd go against us now."

"Raymond, you and Terry always tend to see the best in people." William sighed. "But I can guarantee you, Grayson will definitely do it."

Raymond gritted his teeth upon hearing this. "If he does, I'll break ties with him."

In the police department's backyard.

John, arms crossed, frowned at Sebastian and asked, "Is there anything else you haven't confessed?"

"No, I've told you everything I know."

"Alright, let's go over your statement again." John picked up the statement book and looked at the words. "That night, David called you to pick up the fake drugs and deliver them to Todd, right?"

"Yeah."

"David gave you $100 for the errand?"

"Yeah."

"You were present when Todd talked to Chris, and you saw Chris give him money, right?"

Right."

"Good, if all this is true, sign here." John stood up, handed over the statement book, and pointed to the bottom right corner. "After you sign, I'll take you to identify the pickup and delivery locations."

"John, you have to protect me. I don't want to die in prison," Sebastian pleaded with fear in his eyes, "I'm risking my life to cooperate with you."

"Don't worry, I won't send you to the detention center for now," John replied with a smile, "Wherever you sleep tonight, I'll sleep there too."

"Alright."

Stardust City.

Samuel sat in his mentor's house and said softly, "I just made a call. The evidence chain is almost complete. The fake drugs have been sent for testing, and several participants have started identifying the locations. So, even if William pressures the police department, this case can't be overturned."

His mentor, bending over to tend to some seedlings, said softly, "When do you plan to meet with Christopher?"

"No rush. Let's wait for more details," Samuel replied with a smile, holding a teacup, "Let Christopher fully grieve his son's death for a while."
