Chapter 220 All Blocked
Andrew, who'd just been in a brawl and took a bullet to the chest, was barely standing in front of the car, trying to protect the conscious officer. He looked like he could collapse any second.
Seeing Andrew struggling, John yelled, "Turn on all the high beams, drive forward, and pick up Andrew."
All the drivers flipped on their high beams at once, flooding the alley with blinding light, making the attackers shield their eyes.
"Cover fire!" John shouted, leaning against the wall and shooting into the alley with the other officers.
Gunfire echoed. The attackers, blinded and unsure of John and the others' positions, scattered.
Engines roared, and cars screeched to a halt beside Andrew.
The backseat door flew open, and Xavier, firing into the crowd, yelled, "Andrew, get in!"
Andrew ditched the shovel and reached for the fellow officer from Pine City who'd fought with him. The young officer was conscious but badly injured, legs broken and stabbed multiple times, making him dead weight.
"Get up, use your strength!" Andrew shouted, but he was barely holding on himself.
"I... I can't move," the young officer groaned, arms bloody.
Seeing Andrew struggle, Xavier jumped out, supporting Andrew with one hand and firing with the other. "You get in first."
Andrew got into the back seat, and Xavier yelled, "Cover fire!"
Xavier holstered his gun, squatted, and heaved the young officer to the car's edge. Andrew, from the back seat, pulled him in with all his might.
"Don't turn around, reverse and retreat," Xavier ordered the driver, reloading and firing while backing up.
The car sped backward on the icy road. Xavier, out of ammo, sprinted to catch up, grabbing the passenger door to jump in.
A muffled gunshot rang out, and Xavier, one foot in the car, froze.
The driver, startled, swerved left and floored it, pulling Xavier back and slamming him to the ground.
Blinded by headlights, John shouted, "Stop the car, he didn't get in!"
The driver braked. "Get up!"
Xavier, bleeding from a hip wound, felt his leg go numb. He tried to push himself up, but six or seven armed attackers rushed out from a side alley.
"Everyone here?" David, masked and leading a group, fired towards the entrance. "Don't even think about leaving. Shoot out the car headlights!"
Gunfire erupted, bullets pinging off the cars. The headlights shattered, plunging the road into darkness.
At the north entrance, Milton showed up with more people. "Everyone, charge!" he yelled.
The attackers, now bolstered by the new arrivals, surged forward.
Xavier, gritting his teeth, tried to stand but felt a gust behind him. "Damn!" He turned sharply.
An iron rod, thick as a child's arm, struck his head. Xavier froze, then got hit again, collapsing with a thud. Blood quickly stained the snow around his head.
John, seeing Xavier fall, was stunned. "Go back! Drive back and pull him in!" he shouted.
"Go back? None of you are leaving alive!" Milton, brandishing a shotgun, yelled. "Kill them. Samuel will take the fall for this."
"Cut them down!" the lead attacker shouted, and over thirty people charged at John's group.
At the north entrance, a car stopped. Adam, limping, approached with Jessica.
A man in a police winter coat got out and smiled at Adam. "How did it go?"
Adam gestured to Jessica. "Mr. Jenkins, here's a token of our appreciation," she said, handing over a black leather bag.
The officer opened the bag, glanced at the cash, and said, "The amount is correct."
"We're leaving now. Can you arrange it?" Adam asked.
"No problem," the officer smiled. "This place is so remote, even a political prisoner couldn't be touched if I say so. Not even the mayor of Longridge."
"Good," Adam nodded. "I'll go check over there."
"I'll be off then," the officer said, walking back to his car with the bag.
On the road, Xavier lay in a pool of blood. John, enraged, raised his gun to fight back.
David, Milton, and their armed group advanced, making it impossible for the officers in the car to show themselves.
"Andrew, if you're a man, get out of the car. Don't let these young officers take bullets for you," Milton taunted.
Andrew, gritting his teeth, pushed open the car door. "They're after me. I'll get out."
"Don't move," the driver tried to stop him.
Just then, five large black SUVs appeared from the south entrance, driving straight into the area. Their headlights were blinding. John turned and saw 'River State SafeNet' printed on the side of the cars.
