Chapter 188 Reunion at the Welfare District
A few minutes later, in the police station's backyard, Alexander stood by a car, frowning. "John, any idea what's going on? What's Jasper up to?"
John shook his head. "No clue. He went to the armory for weapons, like he's gearing up for revenge again."
Alexander crossed his arms and paced. "He must've found some lead."
"Maybe," Elbert chimed in. "He never tells anyone what case he's on, always so secretive."
Alexander looked surprised. "How do you know so much about Jasper?"
Elbert scratched his head and grinned. "There's a deputy team leader on his side who's an old classmate of Loren and me. I asked him about it."
Alexander patted Elbert's head. "Good job."
"Hey, Alexander, can't you praise me too?" Loren butted in awkwardly. "I'm pretty good, you know."
"Go play somewhere else," Alexander said. Though he liked Loren's personality, he always felt Loren lacked Elbert's ambition.
As they chatted, Jasper strode over with about twenty people. "Stop dawdling. Get in the cars and gear up."
Alexander glanced at him and then turned to his team. "Let's move. Don't give him a reason to complain."
Just then, Jasper approached with two young men carrying police backpacks. "This case is highly confidential. Hand over all communication devices. You'll only use the radio system on the designated channel. Any violations will be treated as dereliction of duty."
Alexander was momentarily stunned but complied. "Do as Captain Lane says."
Everyone handed over their phones and regular radios and then got into their cars.
About six or seven minutes later, four teams of over thirty people left the police station in seven cars.
Around 9 PM.
Near the Pine Street Welfare District, Alexander looked around, puzzled. "Isn't this where we caught those bandits last time? Why did Jasper bring us here?"
"No idea," John replied, shaking his head.
The convoy came to a stop, and Jasper spoke into the radio. "Everyone, stay in your cars. I'll explain the mission."
Everyone listened closely.
"The target is a group of about 5-7 people, led by Joe, the suspect who killed Zephyr and Hubert," Jasper briefed. "I have reliable info they're in Unit 8, Apartment 701 of the Welfare District. They're heavily armed, so wear bulletproof vests and stay safe."
Alexander was stunned and cursed. "How did this idiot find this place?"
"Yeah," Xavier added, puzzled. "Where'd he get such accurate info?"
"Probably got help from William," John speculated.
On the radio, Jasper continued, "Teams 1 and 2, get out and enter the complex from the side gate. Wait near the boiler room. Deputy Captain James, take three people and guard the west side gate..."
Alexander was even more confused. "Why isn't he letting me lead the front this time?"
"Maybe he learned his lesson from the last punishment," John laughed. "Anyway, you take Loren and Elbert to the side. I'll lead the team to support the front."
"Alright," Alexander nodded.

On the street, Joe, wearing a wool hat, stood by the roadside, holding a phone. "Ask them if they want anything else. I've ordered the pasta, just need the side dishes. Okay, got it."
After a brief conversation, Joe took the pasta handed to him by the vendor and softly instructed, "Give me two servings of peanuts and a plate of beef. And a bit of each remaining side dish."
"Got it," the vendor replied, turning to pack the side dishes.
About five minutes later, Joe returned to his car with the takeout, listening to music on the radio, and headed towards the Welfare District.
Since it wasn't far, Joe drove for less than ten minutes before he saw the complex. He had a habit of parking his car a bit farther away, whether he was working or not, so he wouldn't lose his main escape vehicle in case of an emergency.
Joe parked about 200 meters from the Welfare District, grabbed the takeout, and casually walked into the Welfare District courtyard from the side.
As soon as he entered, Joe noticed some movement near the west side gate. He thought it was just someone taking a walk and didn't pay much attention, continuing to walk forward. But as he turned a corner, he saw a lot of footprints in an area near the boiler room that was usually deserted.
Joe paused, staring at the footprints. His years of dangerous work had made him extremely sensitive, and details that ordinary people wouldn't notice could make him very uneasy.
Looking at the footprints, Joe felt a sudden sense of unease. This feeling seemed unrelated to the details he saw; it was just an instinctive reaction that something was off today.
Joe hesitated for less than ten seconds before turning around and pulling out his phone.
His phone rang first. Joe stared at the screen, then looked back towards the boiler room.
Inside the boiler room, a team leader heard the phone ringing outside and whispered into the radio, "There's someone outside, everyone stay quiet and wait for the teammates in the hallway to respond."
Joe answered the call and took a few steps forward. "What's up?"
"You've been exposed. Jasper has already led a team into the Welfare District," the voice on the other end whispered.
Joe stopped in his tracks, his face turning pale. "Why the hell didn't you notify me earlier?"
"Jasper didn't reveal any details before arriving at the Welfare District. How could I notify you?"
"Damn it!" Joe hung up, threw away the pasta, and immediately called Rodolfo.
At the same time, four people in plain clothes but holding guns walked in from the opposite exit. Their movements made it clear they were trained officers.
The four saw Joe and paused, while Joe, holding his phone, froze as well.
