Chapter 125 A Twist of Fate, A Great Disaster
After about two hours of driving, the four vehicles finally stopped by the roadside.
The sergeant, holding the keys, opened the truck bed door and shouted, "We're here."
Andrew and the others jumped out of the vehicle upon hearing this, looked around, and saw a service area not far ahead.
"This is as far as we can take you," the sergeant said, closing the truck bed door and turning to Alexander. "We have about another hour to go to deliver the goods, but there's nowhere to rest over there. It would be inconvenient for you."
"Where are we?" Alexander asked.
"South Supply Area." The sergeant pointed to the left. "Did you see those buildings over there? Just walk over. There's a motel, a diner, and a butcher shop. You can find whatever you need."
"Is this place safe?"
"Definitely safe," the sergeant responded with a smirk, "Let me tell you this, if the police come to arrest someone, out of ten people they check in the South Supply Area, at least six are wanted criminals. No one manages this place; it's full of crooks. As long as you don't draw attention, no one will bother you."
"Got it." Alexander nodded.
"Alright, bro, safe travels."
"Got it."
After a brief conversation, the sergeant returned to the vehicle to sleep, and the convoy left.
By the roadside, Chris frowned and asked Alexander, "What should we do? Do we stay here?"
"We can't stay long." Alexander shook his head. "We'll wait for someone to pick us up and then leave immediately."
"Yeah, I think so, too," Chris agreed quickly, "Even though we're out, we can't let our guard down."
"Alright, let's go," Benjamin called out.
"Wait."
Alexander suddenly stood in front of Chris and said, "We can't be careless. Hand over your guns."
Chris was stunned for a moment. "What do you mean? Do you think I can still contact Terry in this situation?"
"I'm afraid you'll run," Alexander said bluntly.
"Yeah, hand over the guns," Andrew, Matthew, and the Anderson brothers all surrounded Chris.
Chris looked at Alexander, gritted his teeth, and said, "Fine, you're awesome."
With that, Chris and his men handed over their guns, and the group headed towards the South Supply Area.
After a while, Alexander knocked on the door of a diner and asked politely, "Do you have any rooms? We need to rest."
"Yes." the sleepy owner nodded. "Five dollars per person, and I can make some food for you."
"Alright." Alexander turned and called out. "Everyone, come in."
Benjamin, his brothers, Matthew, Andrew, and Chris all stepped inside.
Seeing so many people, the owner was momentarily stunned. "You have to pay extra, fifteen dollars per person."
"That's robbery!" Andrew exclaimed, "You said five dollars!"
"At this hour, with so many people, that's the price," the owner replied with a smile, "If you don't believe me, ask around. Others will charge at least twenty dollars."
"Fine, fifteen dollars it is," Alexander stopped Andrew and whispered, "Get some food."
"Alright, go to the room on the left." The owner stepped aside and led them to the left.
About an hour later, everyone was eating hot dishes and whole-grain bread, finally filling their stomachs.
Benjamin called Alexander aside and asked quietly, "Will the pickup arrive before dawn?"
"Yes." Alexander nodded. "They're on their way. We'll leave before dawn."
"Good," Benjamin said, taking a drag from his dirty electronic cigarette. "Are we heading to River State?"
"Yes." Alexander sighed. "No one expected things to get so serious. And with Tyler's death bound to be exposed, once Stardust City starts investigating, we'll have to lay low. We'll probably stay in River State for a while."
Benjamin was silent for a moment, then said, "Alexander, I'm not going with you."
Alexander was taken aback.
"I'm going back to Pine City," Benjamin said calmly, "Once you get to River State, make sure Chris clears up the fake drug issue. Then I'll be at ease."
Alexander pondered for a moment and frowned. "Benjamin, since they didn't catch us, it's a sign from God. You should come with us to River State..."
"Alexander, you know very well that whether they caught us or not doesn't change the outcome," Benjamin said, looking at Alexander. "Carl and Arthur weren't related to me by blood, but we still sought revenge when they died. So what do you think Christopher will do when he finds out his son is dead?"
Alexander was silent.
"If no one shows up, all the pressure will fall on Samuel. If he can't handle it, we're all doomed." Benjamin sighed. "This needs to be resolved."
"Benjamin, we've already escaped. If you suddenly go back to Pine City, how am I supposed to explain that to Robert?" Alexander insisted. "Or come with us first and explain it to Robert yourself, okay?"
Benjamin chuckled but didn't respond.
At the garrison headquarters in the designated area.
Four vehicles slowly lined up and entered. The sergeant who had just dropped off Alexander and the others jumped out of the car, stretched, and walked into the duty post.
Inside, two soldiers stood up and asked the sergeant, "Did the supplies arrive?"
"Yes, everything's here. The hidden goods are in the second vehicle. You guys can unload it," the sergeant said, pulling out a pack of cigarettes and offering them. "Thanks for your hard work. Have a smoke."
The two soldiers didn't move.
"Haven't seen you two before. Are you new?" the sergeant asked.
The soldier on the left picked up a walkie-talkie and said, "Report, the supply vehicles have arrived."
As soon as he finished speaking, sirens blared in the courtyard, and three or four dozen soldiers armed with guns surrounded the military vehicles.
The sergeant was stunned. "What are you doing?"
The door to the post was kicked open, and a fat man with a gun shouted, "Damn it, what are you hiding in the vehicles?"
The sergeant turned and asked, "Who are you? These are garrison vehicles, you know?"
"Are you blind? I'm with the garrison inspection team." the fat man slapped him. "Are you hiding something in the vehicles?"
The sergeant was completely bewildered.
Meanwhile, in the Stardust City exit building, the officer on duty tonight sat in an iron chair and said, "Pretty ruthless, are you trying to let us down on our guard? I need to speak with the commander!"
"We'll talk about the supplies later," the inspection team member said impatiently, "An officer just reported that tonight you hid someone in the vehicles..."
On the road in the designated area.
A young man in a sheepskin coat sat in the car and said, "Hang in there, guys. We can't stop; we have to keep going..."
