Chapter 128 Brothers Without Blood Ties
On the uphill path, the young man carrying a long cloth bag responded in a low voice, "Still looking for a spot, bur I can't lock onto a point yet."
"How long until you can see it?"
"One minute."
"Damn it, my brother could die a hundred times in a minute." The young man in the passenger seat shouted, "Don't wait for the perfect spot. Just set up the gun and hold your ground."
"Got it."
Behind the rock.
Alexander's upper body was completely numb. He couldn't even feel the pain anymore. His eyes were dazed, and his ears were ringing.
Andrew pushed Alexander hard. "Get up. Head up the mountain."
Alexander stared blankly at Andrew for a while before sitting on the ground and shouting, "Anthony, I'm going to die. The one who shot me is Terry from Pine City!"
When Andrew heard this, his eyes welled up with tears. "Don't talk nonsense. I'll carry you."
With that, Andrew bent down to lift Alexander. But Alexander was strong, and with his upper body numb, Andrew couldn't lift him.
At the mountain pass.
Benjamin saw Alexander and Andrew hiding behind the rock and immediately rushed back to help.
Footsteps sounded chaotically as Raymond led his men straight towards the rock.
The thugs on both sides opened fire, desperately pulling the trigger, causing sparks to fly off the rock wall.
"Charge!"
Raymond waved his hand and shouted, and four thugs with guns moved forward.
"Damn it!"
Benjamin emerged from behind the rock, left arm raised, right hand gripping a knife and thrusting forward.
With a squelch, the blade pierced the body, and the young man who was stabbed fired his gun downward.
The bullet grazed Benjamin's waist. He pulled out the knife and, sticking close to the opponent's body, stabbed again under the young man's gun-wielding arm.
The young man's right arm was pierced under the armpit, and the gun fell to the ground.
The other three opened fire.
Benjamin was shot in the left side of his ribs, fell to the ground, picked up the opponent's gun, and returned fire.
After a fierce exchange of fire, the three young men who had just charged were forced back. Benjamin leaned against the rock, glaring and shouting, "Andrew, assessing the situation, ran up the mountain."
"Let's go together!"
"I never planned to leave." Benjamin pushed him and shouted, "Run straight up, don't look back, go!"
Andrew gritted his teeth, grabbed Alexander's body with both hands, and with all his strength, started dragging him up the mountain.
"Damn it, can't you catch one old man? Charge!" Terry shouted hysterically as he rushed towards the slope.
The crowd charged again.
At the foot of the mountain, behind a large tree, two young men crouched. The one on the left took out a monocular, lay on the snow, and shouted, "Straight line, six o'clock direction, 100 feet up the slope, behind the rock."
The one on the right pulled out a sniper rifle from the bag, knelt on one knee, and rested his left arm on his leg to set up the gun.
The one on the left immediately shouted again, "Sniper rifle in position."
"Fire, aim for the ones at the back," Anthony in the passenger seat shouted.
The sniper rifle roared, and the bullet pierced through the air.
The person at the front fell instantly, his head completely penetrated.
At the same time, the roar of an engine echoed from the left side of the alley as a heavily modified off-road vehicle with welded steel plates charged straight towards the crowd.
At the bottom of the gentle slope, the gangsters who were running up the hillside turned back and shot when they heard the sound.
A hail of bullets hit the off-road vehicle, but it remained unscathed. With a screech, it stopped, and two long guns emerged from the left window, firing instantly.
The gunfire swept across, and several people fell. The snow and dirt on the slope erupted like water splashes.
"Take cover!"
Raymond shouted, immediately shielding Terry.
At the top of the slope, Andrew took the opportunity to drag Alexander to a tree, panting and asking, "Whose people are these?"
"The person who introduced me to District 9," Alexander said with his eyes closed, "He's my brother, though not by blood."
Andrew was stunned. "I thought Eric was coming to get us."
"He's too far away, and he has no one with him. Even if he came, it wouldn't help," Alexander responded, his consciousness fading.
Beside the rock, Benjamin, who had risked his life to buy time for Andrew and Alexander, hid there after running out of bullets.
Halfway up the mountain.
The spotter with the monocular whispered, "The injured are gone, one left behind the rock. Should we take him out?"
"Shoot!"
Anthony responded decisively.
Three gunshots rang out, and three people fell.
Raymond protected Terry, pulled him to the left, and yelled, "Retreat. Stop shooting."
"Damn it, we've staked everything on this, where are we retreating to?" Terry, his eyes red, pushed Raymond away and shouted, "We must capture Benjamin to get Tyler back."
Raymond shouted urgently, "Tyler hasn't shown up, don't you find that strange? Listen to me..."
"Shut up!"
Terry pushed Raymond away and fired three shots into the ground. "Capture Benjamin."
Raymond gritted his teeth and grabbed Terry again. "Fine, you want him, I'll get him."
With that, Raymond led his men towards the rock.
The sniper rifle fired, and people fell intermittently, but Raymond and his men kept charging. After losing four men, they reached the rock and grabbed Benjamin. Benjamin had already been shot and was out of bullets, unable to resist.
Behind the tree at an angle, the spotter said helplessly, "They're desperate. The sniper rifle's sustained firepower is limited. We can't hold the guy behind the rock."
Anthony was silent for a moment, then immediately commanded, "Withdraw, and protect my brother up the mountain."
"What about you?" the spotter asked.
Anthony was silent for a moment. "Didn't you hear what my brother shouted earlier?"
The spotter was stunned.
"We don't know if Alexander will survive," Anthony responded grimly, "No retreat, and I'll avenge him first."
"Are you crazy!" the spotter shouted angrily, "If they enter the woods, the car loses its advantage. You only have four men. How will you avenge him? In close combat, we have no numerical advantage, we might all get killed."
"We'll kill them quickly." Anthony glared and responded, "Hold your positions. If I get caught, you retreat immediately."
"Anthony, are you an idiot? We've done our best, and there's no need to risk our lives," the person in the off-road vehicle also shouted.
"Fuck, this isn't about doing a job for money, it's about avenging my brother." Anthony cut off the radio, grabbed his gun, and shouted at the driver, "Straight line, charge the slope, into the crowd. Mason, identify their leader."
With that, the driver floored the gas pedal, heading straight up the slope.
Meanwhile, Mason Gray lowered the car window and began scanning the crowd.
Raymond and his men, dragging Benjamin, were already retreating towards the woods around Terry.
"Turn on the high beams," Mason suddenly shouted, "and the top lights too."
The driver turned on the lights, and the powerful engine roared as the vehicle charged up the slope towards the crowd.
Terry turned, his eyes momentarily blinded by the headlights, instinctively shielding his face and shouting, "One car dares to come up?"
"Engage the anti-skid chains, increase power," Anthony sat in the car, glaring and shouting.
