Chapter 93 Terry's Favor
Chris lowered his head, lit a cigarette, and after pondering for a while, he replied, "I don't think there will be any change in attitude."
"If our plan to kill him gets exposed." Terry frowned. "I'm afraid he'll retaliate."
"If the Anderson family doesn't know it was him, then he might retaliate against us because of this," Chris responded confidently, "But now even a fool can see that the goods in the Anderson family warehouse were definitely swapped by Todd. Do you think Todd would still dare to contact the Anderson family? Even if Benjamin lets him go, Robert won't agree. Even if Robert lets him go, will the police? The police need someone to take the fall, especially since two people died and so many fake drugs were found."
After thinking it over, Terry felt that Chris made sense.
"If Todd isn't stupid, he'll definitely take the advance payment and run," Chris added, "I didn't give him a small amount before; he has no reason to continue taking risks. This situation is too complicated, and if he's not careful, he'll lose his life."
"No way." Terry shook his head. "Keeping him around is a risk. After all, Benjamin isn't alone now; he has Samuel behind him. Only by making Todd shut up for good can we settle this."
"Yeah, that's right." The bald man next to them nodded.
Terry paced back and forth in the room, then turned to Chris and said, "You should find him and take care of it. After you're done, keep a low profile to avoid drawing attention."
"No problem," Chris agreed immediately.
"Alright, no more cards," Terry said, walking towards the door and motioning to Chris. "Come with me. Let's talk."
"Okay." Chris got up and followed him out.
Ten minutes later.
In the office, Terry took out a financial approval slip from the drawer, wrote down $50,000, stamped it, and handed it to Chris.
"What does this mean?" Chris was puzzled.
"This is part of your bonus for the second half of the year," Terry said with a smile, "I'm approving it now; the rest will be settled at the end of the year."
"Is that appropriate?" Chris responded in surprise, "Our drug sales have been down recently. If you give me a bonus separately, won't others think too much?"
Terry stood up and said seriously, "Chris, among our top management, you're the smartest. Every critical moment, you come up with ways to help me through tough times. So, special talents get special treatment. If others are unhappy, let them show some results."
Chris grinned. "Why are you getting sentimental today?"
"Not really," Terry walked to the window and poured a drink. "A few days ago, William argued with me. He said our company's operating model is too outdated. We've grown to this scale, but we still look immature and unprofessional. Although he was a bit harsh, if you think about it, he has a point."
Chris didn't respond.
"Conquering the world requires brave and adventurous people. But to hold onto conquered territory, I need steady and reliable people like you," Terry said, looking at Chris. "In the next two years, I'll strengthen your position and gradually give you more privileges. Help the company well, and I won't treat you or anyone else unfairly."
Chris smiled. "I'm staying here not because the company's prospects are great, but because you're the boss. You're loyal, and working with you gives me peace of mind."
"Yeah." Terry nodded heavily.
City Center.
On a small road near a large courtyard, Robert sat expressionlessly in the car. After waiting for about ten minutes, he saw Carl leading a young man of the same age out of the main gate.
"Get out," Robert called, opening the car door first.
On the road, the young man nervously said to Carl, "Robert, I really don't know what he did."
"It's okay. Just a few questions," Carl replied with a smile.
As they spoke, Robert emerged from the alley, grabbed the young man's collar, and pinned him against the wall. "Do you know me?"
"Y-yes." The young man turned pale with fear. "W-what's wrong, Robert?"
"Can you find Todd?" Robert pressed the young man's shoulder, his expression grim.
The young man blinked. "Robert, I really don't know where he is. We haven't been in touch today."
Robert snapped his fingers, and Matt pulled out a gun, pressing it against the young man's forehead.
"Robert, Robert... don't, don't do this..."
"I'll ask you one more time, can you find Todd?" Robert's voice was hoarse, raising one finger. "Listen carefully, just one more time!"
Feeling the cold gun barrel and smelling the strong scent of gunpowder, the young man's legs went weak. "He... he seems to be going to Stardust City."
"Why there?" Robert asked again.
"We have a friend working at a casino in Stardust City." the young man swallowed hard. "Todd would have a place to stay there."
Robert paused briefly. "Did Todd tell you this himself?"
"N-no." The young man shook his head. "Todd wouldn't tell anyone the truth. I know he's going to Stardust City because that friend at the casino called me today. He asked if I wanted to go to Stardust City with Todd. I said I couldn't because of family matters."
"Are you three close?"
"Yeah, that friend and I have known each other for over ten years." the young man nodded.
"Do you know where he is?"
"Robert, Todd offended you, but my friend..."
"I'm only looking for Todd. It has nothing to do with your friend or you." Robert frowned. "Just tell me the place."
"He's at the Pass Casino in Stardust City," the young man finally said, lowering his head.
Robert stared at the young man. "You're not lying to me, are you?"
"No, absolutely not." The young man shook his head frantically. "I've heard of your reputation. I wouldn't dare lie."
"Alright." Robert nodded, then turned and called out, "Carl, take him to our warehouse on Maple Street for a few days. Once I find Todd, I'll let him go."
"Robert, what do you mean? Robert, this isn't right. Robert, I told you, why are you still detaining me?" the young man pleaded in panic, "Let me go home. My dad's not well, and I have to make him breakfast tomorrow morning."
"Someone will take care of your dad's breakfast." Robert turned and walked away. "I'm just preventing you from tipping him off. Once I find Todd, I'll let you go."
The young man shivered by the wall. "Robert, don't do this. Robert, don't go. Bro, let me think again. I lied. He's not at the Pass Casino; he's at Glimmeridge."
Matt kicked him. "Dare to lie to us?"
"Robert, this time I'm telling the truth." the young man knelt down with a thud, crying.
Two hours later.
Robert stood at Pine City North Station, holding the phone and said to Alexander, "I'm going to Stardust City. Todd is heading there."
