Chapter 48 Deep Schemes

On the Maple Street.

Andrew stood up and casually reached out his hand, saying, "Bro, give me a cigarette."

"Who are you calling bro? I'm probably older than your dad!" Benjamin responded, rather speechless.

"Don't take it to heart." Andrew grinned. "Don't be stingy, just give me one."

Benjamin rolled his eyes and pulled a pack of cigarettes from his pocket. "I'm asking you, when can you get Daniel and Robert out?"

Andrew quickly snatched the unwrapped pack of cigarettes, grinning shamelessly. "We're on the same side now. I'll definitely help you with this."

"Give me the cigarettes."

"Don't be stingy. You guys have more contacts when you bring in goods. It's easier for you to buy cigarettes. We can barely have any of these all year." Andrew shamelessly stuffed the whole pack into his pocket. "Thanks, Benjamin."

"Get lost." Benjamin couldn't be bothered to talk with him and turned to Alexander, who was the more reliable, asking, "When can they get out?"

Alexander blinked. "It's unrealistic to get both of them out."

Benjamin frowned upon hearing this. "Alexander, aren't you going back on your word? When you came to me, we made it clear that I'd help only if you got Daniel and Robert out. Now you're saying this?"

"Benjamin, we're all straightforward people, so I'll be honest." Alexander looked at Benjamin with a sincere expression and snapped, "You're protecting Eric because you want to find Paul's supply channel in the future, right? If Eric and Paul didn't have this connection, even if I begged you, you wouldn't go against William on Maple Street, right?"

Benjamin fell silent upon hearing this.

"You've actually gained a lot from this. You couldn't even talk to Samuel before, but now we're on the same side, right?" Alexander added with a smile, "We're all adults here. No need for games. You know very well about the situation with Robert and Daniel. 11 pounds of drugs is enough for the death penalty, and the loot we seized when we caught them was at least 200 pounds, right? You know this case was initially handled by William, and now we're enemies. It's unrealistic to ask me to get both of them out of his hands."

Benjamin turned a bit angry upon hearing this. He reached for his cigarette pack but realized Andrew had taken it.

"Here, I have an e-cigarette." Andrew pulled out a used e-cigarette from his pocket and pretended to offer it to Benjamin.

"Get lost!" Benjamin cursed and then looked at Alexander, asking, "So, what can you do about this?"

"I reported this to Samuel, and he said if one person took all the blame, the other could be released." Alexander responded in a low voice, "The good thing is, Robert and Daniel haven't spilled everything yet. If they had, no one could help, given the solid evidence."

"There's no other way?" Benjamin asked again.

"None." Alexander shook his head, "And you need to decide quickly because we've fallen out with William. If we do anything and he makes the case solid, it will be even harder to handle."

Who was Benjamin?

He was someone who could stir up a storm in a complicated place like Maple Street, so he was not indecisive. After Alexander explained everything to him, Benjamin thought for less than two minutes before decisively saying, "Get Robert out."

"Alright." Alexander nodded. "I'll go interrogate them and give them a heads-up."

"How long will Daniel be sentenced?" Benjamin asked, "Can his life be spared?"

"Not easy. He's exceeded the 11-pound rigid threshold. It's hard for him to avoid a life sentence." Alexander shook his head.

"No, he can't die." Benjamin shook his head. "He must live."

Alexander scratched his nose and said, "If that's the request, it might cost some money."

Benjamin was taken aback. "What cost?"

"Why are you acting dumb now? Saving a life requires connections," Andrew interjected.

Benjamin crossed his arms and looked at the two. "Are you messing with me?"

"No, you know how things work in the police department." Andrew grinned. "Even for a promotion, I need connections."

Benjamin gritted his teeth and calmly asked, "How much will it cost?"

"I think $5,000 should be enough to save his life." Andrew turned to Alexander. "What do you think?"

"I think $40,00 should be enough. Do we need that much?" Alexander frowned.

"Nonsense. Just the prosecutor's side will cost at least $2000, and what about the police department? I'm telling you, $5,000 is the minimum," Andrew responded firmly, "This is a big case, not a small matter."

"This is quite embarrassing." Alexander looked at Benjamin, hesitant to say something else.

"Enough!" Benjamin shouted, "Stop acting."

The two fell silent.

"I'll pay the $5,000," Benjamin asked straightforwardly, "What can the case be about?"

Alexander thought for a moment and responded, "Illegal possession. Because we failed in the first raid and didn't seize any evidence, and in the second raid, we only got the goods but no selling evidence. As long as Daniel insists he was just storing the drugs, it should be fine."

"How long will Daniel be sentenced?" Benjamin asked again.

"Around 15 years."

As Alexander gave a quick response, Benjamin cursed, "Did you plan this script before calling me?"

"To talk to someone like you, we had to prepare," Andrew chimed in.

"I just realized, you two are young but quite scheming." Benjamin gritted his teeth.

The two laughed but didn't respond.

"Alright, it's a deal. I'll have someone deliver the money tomorrow," Benjamin agreed because he knew he had to pay; otherwise, why would the officials help him in the future? Plus, this was also a way to establish new connections.

"Benjamin, keep a low profile for a while. It's Samuel's order," Alexander advised.

"Got it." Benjamin nodded and left.

Half an hour later.

Alexander and Andrew were walking back, chatting energetically.

"How do we split the $5,000?" Alexander asked.

"$1,000 each for us and the rest for Samuel?" Andrew grinned.

"I want to give some to the team," Alexander said softly, "John stood by me that day, and everyone has been working hard on the drug case."

"Then give $2,000 to Samuel, $1,000 each for us, and the rest to the team." Andrew didn't haggle over the money because he wasn't in dire need of it.

"Alright." Alexander nodded with a grin.

"I think he would have given us $10,000 if we asked," Andrew said regretfully, "We were too timid."

Alexander laughed.

In a large courtyard on Elm Street, people were gathered, and the sorrowful sound of a violin created a somber atmosphere.

"Terry."

"Boss."

"Terry's here."

"Terry, my friend, why do you look so troubled?"

As Terry walked in from the entrance, people greeted him, calling him in different ways. It was clear that Terry had a significant influence here.

He nodded in reply and occasionally stopped to chat with his acquaintances, Terry finally made his way into the main house.

"Dear guests, you may come and make a speech for the deceased now," the host said in the hall. Scott's wife stood aside.

Scott and George's portraits were in the center, with a pastor praying beside them.

Terry bowed in front of Scott's and George's portraits.

"Terry, what am I going to do from now on?" Scott's wife cried out, collapsing to the ground.

Terry turned around, helping her up. "After the funeral, move to my house. I'll take care of you and the kids."

"Terry, Scott died unjustly!"

"There will be revenge." Terry patted her shoulder, "Hold back. There are outsiders here."

Scott's wife nodded, biting her lip.

Terry glanced at the core members in the room and softly said, "Let's have a meeting upstairs."

Ten minutes later.

Terry sat on a wooden chair and briefly said to the group, "We can't find Eric's supply channel in the short term. But to prevent the Anderson family from reconnecting with this channel and competing with us, we need to make Maple Street lively."

The crowd nodded upon hearing this.

"We're not afraid of making a big deal. It's just we need to get results." Terry raised a finger. "Within a month, we must destroy the Anderson family and drive them out of Maple Street."

"Benjamin is definitely connected with Samuel now. Should we consider the official factor?" a lean man frowned and asked.

Terry thought for a moment. "I'll handle the official pressure. You just focus on dealing with the Anderson family."

"Understood."

The group nodded.

With Terry's command, the entire Black Street District fell into turmoil.
