Chapter 134 On the Road of Life, You Always Need Friends Like This
William, who was extremely dispirited, left Grayson and the others with a lot to say but nowhere to say it because whenever they offered him any advice, William's response was always, "Raymond is handling it. Discuss it with Raymond."
After a meaningless meeting ended, William was helped out by David and others.
On the couch, Grayson took a sip of water, his face also looking grim.
"All this research and no concrete plan. What are we going to do next?" the middle-aged man asked, frowning.
"We have Raymond. Let him handle it," Grayson stood up and replied, "Let's disperse. Everyone, go back home."
Everyone exchanged glances, feeling irritated as they headed out the door.
About half an hour later.
Grayson was sitting in the car when he answered a call, asking expressionlessly, "Did you find Dylan from Christopher's family? Yes, you try to find out what he thinks. If we can meet, I'll go to Stardust City. Okay, that's it."
Another day passed.
After Terry's funeral was almost prepared, Raymond also fell ill with a high fever, struggling to maintain various contacts.
Around noon, there was a knock on the door.
Raymond coughed twice and called for someone to open the door, only to see William, along with Terry's wife, Harper-Nelson, and their son, walking in.
"I'm feeling terrible, my bones ache," Raymond immediately got up to greet them, saying, "Otherwise, I would have gone to your place earlier."
"Raymond, what are we going to do?" Terry's wife started wailing at the door before even entering. "Terry is gone, what are we going to do now?"
Hearing this, Raymond immediately supported her and urged, "Harper, come inside. Don't cry at the door."
"Uncle Raymond."
Meanwhile, Terry's eldest son, who was about ten years old, also grabbed Raymond and started crying.
"William, help Harper inside," Raymond said, feeling deeply saddened by the sight of the widow and orphan, and closed the door.
After everyone helped Harper and the child inside, Raymond comforted them for a long time before the crying finally stopped.
"Harper, Terry's death...is my fault too," Raymond said, feeling guilty as he looked at everyone, "I shouldn't have let him go that day, so seeing you like this, I feel very guilty."
William sat beside him, head down, not saying a word. Harper wiped her tears, her face swollen, and looked at Raymond, sniffling, "Raymond, at this point, I'm not afraid of being laughed at."
"We're family, why say that," Raymond, though usually domineering and with his own little schemes, had deep feelings for Terry.
"You know, Terry had many women over the years," Harper said, holding her son, her voice trembling, "When he was around, everything was fine, but now that he's gone, the house will be in chaos. Seven or eight women, each with their own connections in the company, what are we going to do if there's friction?"
Hearing this, Raymond immediately raised his eyebrows and replied, "What do you mean, what are we going to do? We only recognize your identity, and Jake is the eldest child, so in the future, the family's affairs will definitely be decided by you."
"It's not that simple, Raymond." Harper shook her head, staring at Raymond. "Do you know? As soon as the news of Terry's death reached the company yesterday, someone wanted to secretly contact Christopher's side."
At this point, Enrique immediately interjected, "Is that true, Harper?"
"Yeah." Harper nodded. "Grayson has some distant relation with Terry's lover, and they are the ones doing this together."
Raymond blinked. "Harper, you can't say that lightly."
"I'm telling the truth," Harper replied, wiping her cheeks, "Terry had connections at The VitaPharm Company, we were in regular contact. They were looking for Dylan from Christopher's family, and I know the intermediary."
Raymond was stunned for a moment. "Would Grayson do this?"
"Why wouldn't he? A while ago, Terry wanted to support Chris, and he wasn't happy about it," Harper said, then started crying again, "As soon as Terry was gone, he started bullying us with Terry's women. Raymond, Grayson either wants control of the company or he'll cause trouble and take people to start his own thing."
Hearing this, Raymond picked up a pack of cigarettes but didn't respond.
"Raymond, you were Terry's closest brother, and over the years, you were the one he trusted most in the company," Harper said, her voice trembling and tearful, "William and I have discussed it, the company's situation is too complicated for us to handle, so it's better to leave it in the hands of you."
Raymond was stunned, turning to look at her and asking, "Harper, what do you mean?"
"You lead everyone in the future, if the shares are not enough, William and I will support you," Harper said firmly.
"Yes, Raymond, you take over the company, I'm still in the police department," William interjected, "Terry trusted you, and so do I."
Raymond smiled, lit a cigarette, and with red eyes, looked at the two of them and said, "What is friendship? It's the same when you're alive and when you're dead, that's friendship. I know money is good, and I know having a lot of it doesn't hurt, but Terry's estate, even if it were two mountains, I wouldn't touch a penny."
"Raymond, I'm speaking from the heart, not..."
"Harper, let William handle it well, and Enrique and I will support him as we supported Terry," Raymond interrupted, "I don't lack money, and at this age, I can't do anything immoral. If Grayson wants to leave, I won't stop him, but if he wants to cause trouble, that's absolutely not allowed."
River State.
Eric stood next to Coco, looking at his watch and muttering, "Why aren't they here yet?"
As soon as he finished speaking, three cars slowly drove up, flashing their emergency lights, and stopped by the roadside.
"They're here." Eric's eyes lit up, and he walked over quickly.
Coco tightened the fur scarf around her neck and said seriously, "Let's take a look."
Everyone followed her.
The doors of the three cars opened, and Andrew was the first to jump out, glaring at Eric and cursing, "Just a little more, and you would never see me again."
Eric hugged Andrew, patting his shoulder hard, then walked to the back of the car to look at Alexander lying inside.
"Still not awake?" Eric asked.
Alexander, lying on a stretcher with his eyes closed, replied, "The person has woken up, but the soul is still in Stardust City."
"Fuck, just being able to talk is fine." Eric released his clenched fist, finally relaxing.
Behind the crowd, Robert, leaning on a cane and being helped over, glared and asked, "Where is he? Why... why hasn't he answered his phone?"
