Chapter 70 Formation of the Team, Emergence of the Core
The doctor cleaned Eric's wound again inside the room and prescribed three days of intravenous medication before turning around and saying, "He's yong and has strong resistance. Just keep warm and don't catch a cold, and he will be fine."
Coco nodded upon hearing this. "Thank you, doctor."
"You're welcome." The doctor smiled, picked up his bag, and walked out.
Coco glanced at her watch and then smiled at Alexander. "I'm staying here tonight. In an hour and a half, come to my room, and I'll treat you to something good."
"Alright." Alexander nodded.
"Let's go." Coco called out to her people and left the room.
Alexander closed the door and kicked Andrew's butt. "How was it? Suffering over there?"
"Do you think I'd let a woman handle me?" Andrew pouted and replied, "They caught me but didn't lay a hand on me. I immediately knew you two must have gained some leverage. Otherwise, why would they treat me so nicely? So, I ate and drank well these past few days, annoying the driver beside Coco."
Alexander was speechless and scolded, "You really weren't worried at all."
"What's the point of worrying?! If I showed any fear, Coco might have really thought Alex was dead because of us." Andrew, who seemed silly, was actually calm and composed in critical situations. His privileged background had influenced him, making him less likely to lose his cool.
"Eric, I've heard about everything." Andrew sat next to Eric and, in a rare tone of admiration, said, "If it weren't for you and Alexander, I might have really died in River State. Honestly, you handled this brilliantly."
Eric smiled. "Everyone has their role to play."
"By the way," Alexander suddenly said, "I'm planning to have Eric act as the middleman, responsible for handling the medications and distributing the profits."
Andrew was taken aback. "That's a tough and dangerous job."
"I'm not afraid of danger; I want to do it," Eric replied softly.
Hearing this, Andrew habitually looked at Alexander. "Do you think it's okay?"
"Yes, I agree." Alexander nodded.
"Then it's settled," Andrew finally agreed.
At the critical moment in Pine City, it was Alexander who secretly contacted the Anderson family to protect Eric. Through the treacherous journey to River State, it was also Alexander who came up with ideas and strategies to clear Eric's name from the unexpected accusations. Now, with the drug business showing a significant turnaround, it was again Alexander who devised a plan to navigate through various relationships positively.
So, both Andrew and Eric had unconsciously started seeing Alexander as their backbone. This unintentional shift was beneficial because when brothers work together, not everything can be decided collectively; there had to be someone who makes the final decision. Andrew's personality was a bit carefree and sometimes reckless and idealistic in certain matters. Eric, on the other hand, though bold, lacked experience in dealing with the ruthless individuals in the restricted area. Both understood that only Alexander, with over a decade of survival experience, the necessary boldness, and keen insight, was fit to lead.
Lying on the bed receiving an IV drip, Eric thought for a long time before asking, "Alexander, how are you planning to negotiate with Coco? Are we sticking to the old prices?"
"No." Alexander shook his head. "We're not like your big brother. Back then, he only had to worry about himself, but this time, we have to share the profits with many people. If the cost of the drugs is too high, the profits will be low, and it will be hard to satisfy all parties."
Andrew, crudely picking his nose, added, "Samuel is already in Stardust City. He might demand fifty percent of the profits."
"That much?" Eric frowned.
"Samuel's not in it for the money; he's trying to suppress the Patrick family while creating some space for himself," Andrew explained softly, "Most of that fifty percent is for the higher-ups; he won't take much himself."
"That's still a lot." Eric turned to Alexander. "The Anderson family will also take a share."
"Fifty percent is understandable," Alexander responded with a smile, "The biggest reliance for this business is Samuel's background. If he can ensure the smooth sale of the drugs, we might not make a lot at once, but it will be stable. We won't make big money quickly, but we can accumulate capital over time. No rush, we'll take it slow."
"Okay." Eric nodded.
The three brothers chatted while keeping an eye on the time.
An hour and a half later, Eric removed the IV needle and followed Alexander and Andrew to the room across the hall.
Inside Coco's room, the aroma of beef filled the air. A rusty copper pot was boiling hot broth on the table, and several plates of beef were cut into thin, marbled slices, making it inexplicably appetizing in these times.
"The beef and vegetables are from me, and the broth is made by the boss," Coco said, wearing a high-neck, loose sweater, and beckoned them over. "Come, sit and eat."
"Then I won't stand on ceremony," Andrew, unable to resist, stepped forward and started eating.
Coco smiled and turned to Andrew. "With Samuel in such a position, helping people casually, you still lack beef to eat?"
Andrew immediately bragged, "Coco, you don't know, I'm a proud person! Although Samuel and I are related, my dignity doesn't allow me to live off him..."
"Just shut up and eat," Alexander interrupted, feeling nauseated.
"What? Am I not telling the truth?" Andrew asked, squinting.
"Yes." Alexander nodded vaguely.
"Come on, everyone sit down," Coco graciously invited.
Everyone then sat around the round table, while Coco's driver and others ate separately in the next room.
After pouring drinks for the three, Coco raised her glass and said boldly, "First, here's to our future cooperation. Second, you caught Tim, which avenged Alex. Third, doing business with me means making me money, so I must thank you. I'll drink three cups to show my respect."
Seeing the spirited Coco, Andrew blinked his shameless little eyes and said, "Coco, you're such a good drinker. It's a pity you're not entertaining guests at Velvet Sky Club."
"Shut up." Alexander pulled Andrew's head over.
