Chapter 206 Multiple Counterattacks

At noon, Samuel hit up the police station to report that the Black Street District Commissioner wanted to nab Adam, Jessica, and Milton.

By 1 PM, the cops had already sent the arrest papers to the legislature, who seemed all set and quickly sent folks to the district council.

Within two hours, Adam's office was locked down, and all his files, archives, computers, and other stuff were taken.

At the Black Street District police station, John, clearly annoyed, said to Andrew, "You tipped off the higher-ups, so Adam probably knows. This makes the arrest harder."

"You don't get it," Andrew shot back, irritated. "He's the chief councilor of Riverside District. We need the legislature's approval to arrest him."

"This process is ridiculous," John grumbled. "We're simply telling them that we're coming"

"That's just how it is," Andrew said, resigned. "Deploy all our police, check the city exits and the light rail station, and catch Adam ASAP."

"Can we use Team One and Team Two?" John asked.

"Yeah, Samuel already told them, and they're helping with the arrest."

"Great, let's have a quick meeting to go over the clues."

"Alright, go ahead."

After their chat, the Black Street District police station sprang into action. Hundreds of officers were sent out to round up people from the Wilde family company and search for clues about Adam and the other suspects.

Meanwhile, in a restaurant near the web broadcasting station, a young guy in a light pink suit with an over-the-top pompadour hairstyle, sitting with his legs crossed, said, "Our district's living conditions are worse than the other major districts. The ingredients here aren't even airlifted; the food's just average."

Emily blinked. "I think it tastes fine."

"That's because you're used to these cheap ingredients," the young guy in the pink suit said lazily. "Wait until the holidays; I'll take you to the other major districts."

"Oh," Emily nodded.

"Emily, I heard your family is quite well-off?"

"Not really. There are many wealthy families in Stardust City; my family is pretty average." Emily hated this topic, especially on a first date.

"No big deal," the young guy in the pink suit said, placing his napkin on his lap. "Let's date first, and we'll deal with family stuff later."

Emily felt awkward and was about to refuse when her phone rang. "Sorry, I need to take this call."

"Who is it?" the young guy asked.

"Your dad," Emily replied, answering the phone. "Hello, Director Simmons."

"Have you finished eating?"

"Yeah, I'm done," Emily said.

"Then come back quickly; I have something important to tell you," Herman said kindly.

"Okay, Director Simmons, I'll be right back," Emily said, grabbing her coat and handbag. "Handsome Simmons, I have to go back to the station. Next time, it's on me."

"I told you, just call me Handsome."

"See you later, Handsome."

"Alright, you go ahead. The food here sucks anyway," Handsome said, extending his hand.

"Bye-bye," Emily nodded and left.

Handsome stood there, annoyed, muttering, "What's with the old man, ruining the mood?"

Half an hour later, at the web broadcasting station, Herman was at his desk and told Emily, "Get the news out about the gun trafficking case and reorganize the materials for the Dominic death case for a follow-up report."

Emily was taken aback. "Weren't these cases put on hold? Why are we publishing them now?"

"It's a special approval from the station. And now we have to go further." Herman said with a grin. "Finish these two cases, and I'll promote you to team leader."

Emily, still puzzled about the power struggle, asked, "Can these cases pass Leader Weaver's review?"

"Leader Weaver? She should have already fled," Herman sneered. "Just report to me on this."

"Okay, I'll get right on it."

"Emily, how's my son?" Herman suddenly asked.

Emily paused, then awkwardly smiled. "The pink suit is very fashionable, and he's quite a catch."

"Get to know him more," Herman nodded in satisfaction.

"I'm off to work, Director Simmons."

"Go ahead," Herman waved.

As soon as the police station, police bureau, and legislature started working together, the media launched a brutal counterattack against Adam. A storm that had been brewing against the Wilde family erupted instantly.

Around 8 PM, after work, Leon drove to a small restaurant, bought some frozen food, and two bags of takeout.

Ten minutes later, in a car by the roadside, David, holding a phone, said hoarsely to William, "Leon has made a move. After work, he loaded some daily necessities into his car and bought some food. I think he might be going to see Joe and the others."

"Keep an eye on him," William nodded. "I'll notify Adam."

"Okay," David nodded.

As they spoke, Leon drove slowly towards the Black Street District.

Inside the police station, a dozen idle people from the streets were squatting against the wall.

Andrew, with his hands on his hips, shouted, "We've caught so many people, but none of them know where Adam is?"

"Yeah," John shook his head. "Adam's phone has been off since last night, and Jessica has also disappeared."

"Damn," Andrew rubbed his head. "This is going to be hard to find."

"Sir... Sir, I have a clue," a young man squatting on the left side of the wall slowly raised his hand.

Andrew was stunned. "What clue do you have?"

"A few days ago, William seemed to have caught one of Joe's associates. They wanted him to confess Joe's whereabouts," the young man said. "Adam seemed very concerned about this and specifically asked my brother and the others to help."

Andrew's eyes lit up. "Do you know the specifics?"

"I know some because I drove my brother to William's place," the young man nodded.

"Take him to the interrogation room, quickly," Andrew ordered the nearby officers.

On Fortune Avenue in the Black Street District, Leon, holding the steering wheel with his left hand and a phone with his right, said, "Joe, I'll be there soon."

"Alright, I'll come get you." Joe responded.

In the suburbs of Pine City, Adam, with bloodshot eyes, said on the phone, "As soon as I see Joe, I'll make sure he dies tonight. After dealing with him, I'll leave immediately."
