Chapter 212 A-Level Wanted

The next morning, Alexander was chilling in his hospital bed, munching on breakfast and watching the news.

"Good morning, folks. Welcome to Legal News," Emily greeted, looking sharp in her light blue suit. "Last night, there was a shooting near Sunset Street. The police and eyewitnesses say it's tied to former Riverside District Council Chief Adam. Seems like it's all about a beef over selling guns and ammo. Pine City Police reported this to District Nine HQ, and now there's an A-level wanted notice out for Adam and his crew, including Jessica and Milton. We'll have a four-part special on this case during prime time to dig up the truth and keep you updated. Thanks for tuning in."

Alexander put down his fork, losing interest in Emily's broadcast, his mind buzzing with questions.

The ward door creaked open, and in walked Andrew, looking like he hadn't slept in days. "Man, you're living the dream, just eating and sleeping, huh?"

Alexander raised an eyebrow. "I thought you'd be out cold till the afternoon."

"No chance," Andrew replied, his eyes bloodshot. "I was up all night at Sunset Street and then had a meeting at the station. Haven't caught a wink."

"Did you catch anyone?" Alexander asked.

"We nabbed a couple of injured guys at an illegal clinic early this morning," Andrew said, grabbing Alexander's leftover food. "But none of the big fish; they probably slipped away."

Alexander stayed quiet.

"But it's cool. HQ put out an A-level wanted notice for Adam, Jessica, and Milton. Even if they ran, they can't hide forever," Andrew said, munching. "We'll get them unless they give up everything.."

"Did you catch the news this morning?" Alexander asked suddenly.

"Nope," Andrew replied. "Why?"

"The report only mentioned the A-level notice for Adam, Jessica, and Milton, but barely touched on Joe's gang, which is also a big deal. They just said it might be about selling guns and ammo," Alexander said. "Isn't that weird?"

"It is," Andrew said, looking puzzled. "Joe's gang is just as notorious as Adam's. Why weren't they mentioned?"

"Didn't you get any scoop from the station?" Alexander asked.

"No, I don't know the media folks at the station. How would I know?" Andrew shook his head.

"Really strange," Alexander muttered. "Everyone knows Joe's got someone powerful backing him, but who could it be that even the media is giving him a pass? I can't figure it out."

"Why are you stressing over this?" Andrew shrugged. "Our main goal is to catch Adam and take down William. What happens to these other criminals isn't our problem."

"I heard William got into some trouble last night too?" Alexander asked.

"Yeah," Andrew said, sipping his soup. "Joe almost took him out."

"And we just stood by?" Alexander pressed.

"What could we do? William's the victim here. You can't arrest a guy for getting shot," Andrew replied, sniffing. "The fourth team checked on him at the hospital this morning."

Alexander nodded. "I have a feeling this isn't over yet."

"Of course not, Adam's still on the loose!"

Alexander frowned and stayed quiet.

In another hospital ward, William, his face bandaged, walked to the window and called David.

"Hello?"

"Did you guys get out?" William asked, his voice muffled.

"We're out of the city," David confirmed.

"How is he?" William asked.

"Not too badly hurt, but he's mentally breaking down," David said quietly. "Joe's move hit him hard; he can't handle it."

"I can imagine," William nodded.

"Should I stay with him or come back?" David asked.

"Stay with him for now; don't leave," William decided.

"Okay."

"Let me know when you get there, so I don't worry," William instructed.

"Got it."

"Alright, that's it."

They ended the call.

Ten minutes later, William changed into casual clothes and left the ward.

"Where are you going?" the nurse asked, surprised.

"I have something to do; I need to go out."

"You can't go out; you haven't finished your IV," the nurse frowned. "Go back quickly."

"I'll do the IV later," William said impatiently. "Derek, bring the car around."

"Why don't you take care of yourself? Your face..." the nurse tried to persuade him.

"Is it any of your business?" William snapped.

The nurse was stunned, her face turning red with anger. "Fine, I won't care."

William walked past her and headed to the elevator.

At noon, in a coffeehouse on the outskirts of Black Street District, William sat staring at his coffee, motionless.

Time dragged on, and Derek, standing by the door, grew impatient. "William, they're too arrogant. It's been ages, and they still haven't shown up."

William turned and softly said, "Go downstairs and take a walk."

Derek, speechless, left.

Over half an hour later, the coffeehouse door opened, and a middle-aged man in a black suit walked in.

William stood up immediately. "Hello, I'm William."

The man smiled. "You invited me alone; are you trying to stir up trouble?"

"Please, have a seat," William said politely.

Meanwhile, in a snowy field, four cars sped along.

Adam lay in the middle van, clutching Jessica's hand. "If I don't get my revenge, I won't die in peace!"
