Chapter 118 The Devious Plot Begins
In the evening, around 9:40, near South Village.
Chris sat in the car, listening to soothing music, his face completely relaxed. He occasionally glanced at the surroundings. "Jude, look , the living quarters in Stardust City all have big courtyards, and they even have slogans painted on the walls. It looks so tidy, huh?"
Driver Jude Parker kept wiping the sweat off his forehead, replying helplessly, "Chris, even I, a driver, can tell this is very dangerous. But why do you seem not nervous at all?"
Chris smiled. "What's the use of being nervous? If Terry said I didn't have to come, I'd kneel to thank him. But he didn't say that!"
Jude sighed upon hearing this. "It's not easy being the boss either."
Chris reached out and patted Jude's shoulder. "Don't be afraid, Jude. You're just the driver. Even if something happens, you'll be fine."
"Yeah!" The driver nodded tensely.
Chris took out a pack of cigarettes, leisurely lit one, rolled down the window a third of the way, and started smoking quietly.
A burst of static came through the radio, and Raymond's voice called out, "Chris, don't be nervous. We're all nearby."
Chris smiled, not bothering to respond.
Time ticked by, and small snowflakes began to fall from the pitch-black sky.
Terry sat anxiously in the car, drinking water and constantly checking his watch.
At exactly 10:30, the phone rang inside the car.
Terry immediately threw away the water bottle and pressed the answer button. "Hello?"
"Mr. Patrick, have you arrived?" Alexander asked with a smile.
"Do I really need to come in person for a simple exchange?" Terry replied with a frown, "You said two days, and I've waited. Now the time is up, you'd better not test my patience any longer."
"Alright, if you cooperate, I won't waste time." Alexander paused and asked, "Is Chris there?"
"He's here," Terry replied in a low voice, "Let Tyler show himself, and he'll get out of the car."
"No way. Tyler is the life-saving medicine. How could I let him out without seeing Chris first?"
"Fine, then let Tyler talk to me on the phone," Terry gritted his teeth and replied.
Alexander's voice suddenly turned cold. "Mr. Patrick, it seems you still don't understand who holds the initiative, do you?"
Terry clenched his fist in silence.
"Have Chris get out of the car and walk to the exit sign within two minutes. I'll have Tyler call Christopher and say 'Daddy'," Alexander said and then hung up.
Terry sat in the car, pondering for a moment, then immediately instructed the young man in the passenger seat, "Tell Raymond to have Chris get out and go to the exit sign."
"Got it."
In the car by the roadside.
Chris, with a cigarette in his mouth, pinched his collar with his right hand and said, "Yeah, I'm listening."
"Get out of the car and go to the exit sign," Raymond instructed quickly, "Once you leave, Jude will drive back, but don't worry. We can all see you."
"Got it."
Chris replied and then pushed open the car door.
Jude restarted the engine and suddenly turned back, shouting, "Chris."
Chris turned around.
"Be... be careful," Jude said, his face pale and looking very nervous. "As soon as I get the word, I'll drive over to pick you up."
Chris was stunned for a moment, feeling a strange warmth in his heart, and responded, "Thank you, Jude!"
After that, Jude drove away, and Chris, alone, walked along the roadside to the exit sign.
To the left was South Village, and to the right was an endless field with the faintly visible District 9 isolation wall and barbed wire.
Chris stood under the sign, looking around but seeing no familiar faces. He wasn't anxious, only feeling a sense of helpless disappointment.
If Benjamin were to jump out for revenge and shoot at Chris, where could he hide?
In a dirty alley by the roadside, Terry stood behind a wall, eyes fixed on Chris, and immediately called Alexander.
A phone rang.
Andrew, standing nearby, frowned and reminded, "Answer the phone."
Alexander stared at the phone screen, motionless.
"Fuck, what are you thinking?" Andrew urged again, "Answer the phone!"
Alexander shook his head. "It's Terry calling. I'm not answering."
Andrew was stunned, not understanding what Alexander was thinking, so he stayed silent.
Alexander licked his lips and pressed the hang-up button. After a while, Terry called again, and he hung up again.
In the alley.
Terry cursed anxiously, "Fuck, what are they trying to do? Why aren't they answering the phone?"
On the other end.
Alexander waited for about two minutes, then suddenly turned and shouted, "Andrew, give me the phone I gave you."
Under the exit sign.
Chris had his right hand in his pocket, touching his phone, and looked around.
At that moment, a phone rang.
Chris was startled and looked down to the left, seeing a light behind a rock by the roadside.
In the alley.
Raymond ran over, panting, and frowned at Terry. "Why did they suddenly go silent?"
"I called, but they didn't answer," Terry immediately turned and instructed, "Don't worry about anything else, just keep an eye on Chris. Whether they answer or not, they will definitely contact Chris, understand?"
"Got it."
Raymond nodded and immediately went to the side to contact his brothers via radio.
Terry hid behind the wall, continuing to watch the exit sign.
On the road.
Chris saw the light behind the rock, hesitated briefly, then walked over and picked up a phone.
After a moment of consideration, he pressed the answer button.
"Hello? Chris," Alexander's voice came through.
Chris stared at the phone screen in silence.
"Chris, why aren't you talking?" Alexander asked with a smile.
"Where's Tyler?" Chris asked.
"I'm puzzled. You organized the Maple Street operation, you protected the company's sales, and you orchestrated the downfall of the Anderson family," Alexander said with a chuckle, "But in the end, Terry didn't give you much credit and instead made you take the blame. I don't get it, why are you cooperating with him? Are you two related?"
Chris was silent for a moment, then responded in a low voice, "What exactly are you trying to say?"
"Chris, even I can't stand how Terry is treating you," Alexander suddenly said with a laugh, "How about you turn off the radio, and we team up against him, what do you think?"
"Are you trying to sow discord?" Chris asked with a cold laugh.
"Do you believe that if I shout right now, a bullet will hit your head immediately?" Alexander retorted, "I'll shoot and leave, and in a couple of days, I'll find Terry to exchange for Raymond."
Chris gritted his teeth, cold sweat streaming down his forehead.
