Chapter 121 The First Challenge
Alexander strode towards the car, dialing Terry's number on his phone and saying, "Hey, Mr. Patrick, what are you and Chris up to? I don't get it. We didn't even show up, so why did you start shooting? Got too many bullets?"
"Bastard, don't let me catch you," Terry snarled menacingly.
"Stop cursing at me," Alexander replied with a laugh. "Think about it first. If Chris escapes, what will you trade with me for Tyler?"
"Fuck!" Terry cursed and hung up, shouting, "Get the VitaPharm Company people to stop Chris immediately. The other side will definitely show up."
Around the alley.
As soon as the gunfire started, Raymond, hiding by the car, shouted, "There are only two of them. Fire back and pin them down. Take out Chris."
With that, everyone started firing back.
In the wasteland.
Chris, drenched in sweat, sprinted several hundred feet. Just as he reached a dirt road, a car with its headlights off approached.
The car stopped, and the passenger window rolled down. A burly man inside waved and shouted, "Get in, Chris."
Chris jumped into the back seat, slammed the door, and shouted, "Drive as fast as you can, hurry!"
The driver shifted gears and floored the gas pedal, causing the car to surge forward.
The burly man in the passenger seat turned to Chris, frowning, "Luckily, you didn't let me act first. If we had fought under the checkpoint, I wouldn't have been able to get you out with my men."
"Damn it," Chris cursed, loosening his collar. "Benjamin must have found some kid to give him advice. The other side is acting very cunningly. Otherwise, I would have led both families together, and we could have gotten away easily."
"The Anderson family hasn't shown up yet?" the burly man asked immediately.
"No." Chris nodded. "They're definitely watching me."
"Then it's still hard for us to escape," the burly man said, his face serious.
Chris was silent for a few seconds before responding, "Drive towards the main road. Once the VitaPharm Company people show up, I bet the other side won't stay put. Benjamin definitely wants me; I bet he won't send me back to Terry."
"Got it."
The driver nodded, adjusted the car's direction, and headed for the main road.
Two minutes later, as the SUV reached the road, a convoy started chasing them from the left.
"Whose people are they?" the burly man asked, holding a gun. "Is it the other side?"
"No." Chris shook his head. "Where would Benjamin find so many people in Stardust City? It must be the VitaPharm Company. Turn right. Quickly!"
The driver turned the steering wheel and floored the gas pedal.
The car's tires skidded on the snow, and the vehicle veered to the right.
Suddenly, gunfire erupted.
The car's right tire burst, causing the vehicle to lose control and crash into a roadside ditch after skidding several dozen feet.
"Grab your guns. They're here," the burly man in the passenger seat said, firing his weapon.
Gunfire erupted, filling the car with the smell of gunpowder. Bullets shattered the glass, sending splinters flying from nearby tree trunks.
In the ditch, Benjamin, who had been hiding, waved his left hand and shouted, "Retreat, fall back."
Chris looked outside, saw Benjamin, and cursed, "Hurry up. Get out and hold them off."
The five people in the car pushed open the doors and charged out with their guns, but Benjamin and his men quickly retreated into the dark ditch.
Meanwhile.
Several cars from the VitaPharm Company stopped by the roadside, and more than twenty people rushed towards the ditch.
The burly man hesitated for a moment, then shouted, "Two of you, hold them off. Chris, run with me into the field."
After saying that, the desperadoes led by the burly man stood beside the vehicle, firing alternately to scatter the opposing crowd.
Gunfire rang out, and as Chris ran, he was hit in the right arm and fell into the snow.
Hearing the sound, the burly man turned back, grabbed Chris by the arm, and fired while retreating, "You guys take Chris and go first. I'll hold them off."
Chris, pale-faced, got up, glanced at his friend who was risking his life to save him, and shouted, "Alright, I give up."
The burly man turned back.
Chris fired two shots and gritted his teeth. "Chase those who shot the tire."
"No need. We can break through," the burly man shouted.
"I can't let you risk your life, too," Chris replied softly, "I give up."
With that, Chris led the way, heading towards where Benjamin and his men had fled.
In the ditch, two of the burly man's men were taken down by the VitaPharm Company, lying injured in the snow, but the other side ignored them.
Chris and his men fought and retreated, running about 1000 feet before they were exhausted, and the pursuers were closing in.
"No more running," Chris said, leaning against a tree trunk and sitting down. He shouted, "Benjamin, I'm not running anymore. If you don't show up, I'm going back to Terry."
There was no response from the empty road.
"They're catching up," the burly man said, glancing at the pursuers and pulling Chris up. "Get up. Let's go. This time you've caused trouble. Terry might let you go, but the VitaPharm Company won't."
"I said I'm not running," Chris said, throwing his gun into the snow.
"Get up!" the burly man shouted, pulling Chris.
"No need to pull, just stay calm." Chris panted. "I'm valuable right now."
In the open field.
The dozen or so people from the VitaPharm Company were less than 200 feet from the ditch. Their leader cursed, "Chris, you made fifty of us play games with you. You must have a death wish."
"Come on, I'm right here. Come kill me," Chris shouted, waving his hand.
"Trying to piss me off, huh?" the leader snarled, running faster with his gun.
Chris closed his eyes, taking deep breaths of the cold air.
The 200-foot distance quickly shortened, and the VitaPharm Company people shouted, "Drop your guns."
At that moment, headlights suddenly lit up the road.
Benjamin, with a white cloth tied around his arm, shouted, "Fire our guns, send off Arthur and Carl!"
"Fuck, revenge!!"
"Revenge!"
"Revenge!"
The shouts echoed, and although the Anderson family brothers were only four or five, they charged forward fearlessly.
Alexander sat in the car and said, "The city isn't the problem, but the route is. Wait for my call."
With that, Alexander jumped out of the car, leaped into the ditch, and said to Chris, "You should have opposed Terry earlier. Wasting time here, I didn't lose a single person."
Chris was stunned. "You were the one on the phone with me?"
Alexander grabbed Chris and shouted, "Damn it, VitaPharm Company people, listen up! Go back and tell Mr. Young, if Terry can't do it today, he never will. If he wants to do business, my phone is on 24/7."
