Chapter 168 William Who Doesn't Miss Any Opportunity

In the morgue.

Adam stared at his son, lying stiff and lifeless on the mortuary bed, his neck riddled with stab wounds. His face was blank, eyes wide open.

On the road.

William, looking grim, held his phone tight. "Which morgue? Give me the exact address. Is Adam there? Alright, got it."

After hanging up, Raymond turned to William. "Is it the morgue at the district hospital?"

"Yeah," William nodded.

"I don't get it. How did he die?" Raymond looked puzzled. "He was just released from the police station. How'd he end up in the morgue?"

William paused, frowning slightly. "I heard it was over some gun trafficking money. A few strangers stabbed him to death."

"He's a boss, right? Why would he handle gun trafficking money himself?" Raymond still couldn't figure it out. "How much money was it about? Millions?"

"Eighty thousand dollars."

"What? Eighty thousand?" Raymond looked shocked. "He died just for such little money? This is insane. Killing someone over eighty grand?"

"It wasn't about the money. He was too arrogant and ran into some ruthless thugs," William explained softly. "I asked around. The people with Zephyr said the other side just wanted the money. But Zephyr refused and even slapped them. They got mad and stabbed him in the neck."

"They've been too reckless these past two years," Raymond said, crossing his arms. "Ever since Adam became chief councilor, all lucrative jobs in Riverside District went through their group. Zephyr got used to being flattered. After a few drinks, he forgot who he was."

"He was too weak," William said angrily. "I had just finished discussing a deal with him, and the goods were about to be distributed. Then he suddenly died. Damn, our luck this year is really bad."

"Now that he's gone, what's the plan?" Enrique, who was driving, asked.

"Pine City has five districts, and we control only two," William said softly. "To meet VitaPharm's sales quota, we need to enter Riverside District. Plus, Adam has strong political connections there. If he works with us, Christopher will reassess our influence in Pine City."

"Zephyr was easy to talk to, but Adam's a cunning fox," Raymond said after a moment. "With the young one dead, it's hard to say if the old one will still cooperate."

"That's why we need to stay close to Adam," William said, squinting out the window. "If we can find out who killed his son and get revenge, the rest will be easier."

"It's difficult," Enrique shook his head. "The thugs who killed him didn't care about Zephyr's identity, which means they were likely from outside the district. They might have already fled."

"Do our best and leave the rest to fate," William said, crossing his arms. "We still need to show the proper attitude."

"Yeah," Enrique nodded.

About twenty minutes later...

Outside the Morgue.

Adam, supported by others, walked out of the morgue, flanked by several officials, Riverside District police officers, and some community friends.

William and his crew pulled up, got out of the car, and walked over.

Adam glanced at him but couldn't muster the energy for a small talk.

"I just heard, Mr. Wilde... My condolences," William said, approaching with a sorrowful expression.

Adam felt like he could hardly breathe but forced himself to look at everyone and said, "I... I'm going home. We'll talk in a couple of days. Thank you all."

"Adam, stay strong."

"The police will fully investigate this. Don't worry. As long as they're still in Pine City, they won't get away."

"Adam, I'll come see you tomorrow."

No one tried to stop him; they all just said their goodbyes.

"Thank you, thank you all," Adam said, pressing his hands together in gratitude before getting into his car.

William thought for a moment, then pulled one of Adam's followers aside. "Let me ride with Mr. Wilde. I'll say a few words to him."

The follower hesitated but then stepped aside.

William got in the car, closed the door, and sat next to Adam. "Mr. Wilde, Zephyr was my best friend. I'm not at peace with what happened to him."

"William, just... just be quiet for a while," Adam said, unable to control his grief once in the car. He didn't cry in front of others but secretly wiped his tears.

William was silent for a moment and then spoke directly, "Mr. Wilde, I have some friends in the police. Don't worry. Zephyr won't have died in vain."

"What's the use of having friends?" Adam sighed deeply. "They've probably already fled."

"I asked Duke, who was there," William replied softly. "He said the people who did this have a lot of goods distributed in Pine City and still have a lot of money to collect. And since they dared to mess with Zephyr, they must be pretty bold. So, I don't think they've necessarily fled."

Adam was taken aback and turned to William. "Then I'll leave it to you."

"It's my duty. No trouble at all," William said softly, comforting him. "Mr. Wilde, don't be too sad. If your elders and Zephyr's mother see you like this, they'll be even more heartbroken."

At the Black Street District police station.

Alexander, who was about to visit Uriel's family, suddenly received a phone call.

"Hello?"

"I have some good news. Don't get too excited," John's voice came through.

"What?"

"Zephyr is dead."

"What?" Alexander was stunned. "Are you kidding me in the middle of the night?"

"It's true. He was stabbed over twenty times in the neck at the Riverside District dump," John replied excitedly. "He's in the morgue now. I heard some important people from the city have gone there."

"Really?"

"Would I lie to you about this? I heard William went, too."

Alexander was stunned for a long time, then suddenly rushed to the office area and shouted, "Xavier, have you left?"

"What's up?" Xavier came out from the back room.

"Come on. Go check the supplies. See if we have any fireworks left."

"For what?"

"To celebrate Zephyr's passing away." Alexander's gloomy mood lifted. "God is still favoring us."

Late at night.

William dialed Jasper's number and said softly, "Let's meet tomorrow to discuss Zephyr's murder case."
