Chapter 94 Adding Insult to Injury, or Lend a Hand?
Alexander was taken aback. "Is the information reliable?"
"Yeah. I think so," Robert responded with a frown. "I immediately caught his friend and detained him. He shouldn't dare to lie."
"Then come back, and we'll discuss how to handle this."
"I'm already at the North Station." Robert glanced at his watch. "The train leaves in ten minutes."
Alexander was stunned. "You're already leaving? That's too rushed."
"No choice. Benjamin values his reputation more than his life. If the other side kills Todd, there's no way to resolve this," Robert replied, looking down. "I caused this mess; I have to deal with it."
"But we need to discuss it. You're leaving so suddenly, and I'm not prepared," Alexander said, worried.
"Someone like Todd might not stay in one place for long." Robert shook his head. "If he sneaks off to Stardust City and finds he can't adapt, it'll be like finding a needle in a haystack. I've thought it through. He might leave a few hours before me, but if I get on the train now, I can definitely catch him in Stardust City."
Alexander was silent.
"Benjamin is mad at me, so I won't call him," Robert said softly, "You tell him. I'll take Matt and Carl with me, and we'll find a way to get a car back once it's done."
"You need ID to take the light rail." Alexander frowned. "If you cause trouble in Stardust City, you'll definitely be wanted. It'll be a big hassle because you're involved in a case."
"No worries. I found someone selling tickets illegally," Robert said, looking down. "A bit of money can solve this."
"I still don't think you should go so suddenly," Alexander said, still uneasy.
"Alexander, if we don't resolve this, the Anderson family won't be able to hold their heads up in Pine City," Robert said seriously, "The guys below rely on the drug trade to make a living. I can't let everyone down because of one night of drinking. We can't hesitate; we need to act fast."
"Keep your phone on. Contact me if anything happens," Alexander advised.
"Get a new phone, and I'll call you on that number," Robert responded thoughtfully, "If something happens to me, it won't implicate you."
"Stay safe."
"Okay, that's it."
After finishing the conversation, Robert hung up and entered the light rail waiting hall. A middle-aged man in a suit and tie emerged from the VIP lounge and waved at him. "Follow me."
At the police department.
The more Alexander thought about it, the uneasier he felt. He immediately picked up the phone and called Andrew.
"Hello?"
"Come to Team Three right away."
"Okay." Andrew hung up and arrived at Team Three's office in less than five minutes.
Alexander pulled Andrew into a small conference room, locked the door, and said, "Robert went to Stardust City."
"Why?" Andrew asked, surprised, "Wasn't he going to catch Todd?"
Alexander crossed his arms, his face serious. "He got a lead Todd ran to Stardust City. Robert's afraid the kid won't stay there long or might get killed, so he immediately got a ticket and is on his way to Stardust City."
Andrew pondered for a moment. "Is Robert's information reliable? It could be a trap."
"That's what I'm worried about," Alexander said, pacing in the room. "Todd is just a small-time player. But we don't know whether he's been colluding with the Patrick family for a long time or was just recently bought off. If he was just bought off, it's not too bad. Todd did this, and there are only two outcomes: he takes the money and runs, or Terry kills him to tie up loose ends. But if he's been colluding with the Patrick family for a long time, it will be a big problem."
"You mean, if they've been colluding for a long time, Todd might be setting a trap with the Patrick family, deliberately leaking information to lure the Anderson family," Andrew asked, understanding.
"Exactly," Alexander nodded. "Because anyone can see that the Anderson family selling fake drugs has ruined their reputation. The only way to fix it is to catch Todd and prove they had nothing to do with it. So the other side just needs to leak Todd's location in a plausible way, and the Anderson family will definitely take the bait."
Andrew broke into a cold sweat upon hearing this. "If that's the case, we're in trouble. To put it bluntly, Robert is brave but lacks attention to detail. He's too reckless, and the other side has plenty of cunning people. If they want to harm him, they'll likely succeed."
"Exactly," Alexander said anxiously, "My biggest worry is that if he were handling things in Pine City, it would be better. At least Benjamin and we would be keeping an eye on him. But he's leading a team to Stardust City on his own, which is really unpredictable."
"So what are you thinking?" Andrew asked.
Alexander took out an e-cigarette, took a deep drag, and said, "I want to go to Stardust City."
Andrew was taken aback. "That is inappropriate. We're both team leaders, and Stardust City isn't an unregulated area. If something happens, Samuel will be in a tough spot. Everyone knows we're his people."
"Then what do you suggest?" Alexander asked, frustrated. "If something happens to Robert, our newly established drug line will basically be over."
Andrew rubbed his freshly shaved head and said in a low voice, "Do you understand Samuel's intentions?"
"Yes." Alexander nodded without hesitation. "Samuel's intentions are clear. The Anderson family isn't the only one. If they get taken down, we can still cultivate another group because we control the supply."
Andrew looked up. "So, he probably won't agree to us going."
"Andrew, it's just the two of us here, so I can speak frankly," Alexander said without hiding his thoughts, "I want to protect the Anderson family, and I have my own reasons."
"Go on."
"The Anderson family was our bridge to the second batch of goods. They take our supply and cooperate fully with us. As long as they're around, we have a say. If they're gone and Samuel replaces them with another group, we won't have any control over them. Do you understand?" Alexander explained bluntly, "I'm not saying Samuel has other intentions, but if the connections behind Samuel insist on replacing the Anderson family, what can we do? Nothing, right? We'd have to comply. But that doesn't make sense for me. If we don't have control over the people on the ground, we're just an unimportant part of the drug supply chain."
Andrew was stunned for a while. "Aren't you afraid I'll tell Samuel what you just said?"
"I don't easily trust anyone. In the unregulated area, I lived with a guy for eight months. We slept just 3 feet apart, but every night before bed, I'd put my money under my pillow and my gun within arm's reach. On the surface, we seemed like best friends, but in reality, I only saw him as a colleague I could make money with. He even said it himself; it was hard to get close to me," Alexander said with a slight smile, "But once I trust someone, I won't hide anything from them. I'll be honest about my thoughts, even if you don't like it. So what I just said wasn't a declaration to anyone; it was just to let you know what I think. How you handle it is your problem."
Andrew pondered for a while, then sighed and shook his head. "If I were to take a stand, I should listen to Samuel. But personally, I don't want the Anderson family to fall either. Like you said, if Samuel or the connections behind him arrange for a new group to take over and we have conflicts with them, it would be a real hassle."
Alexander frowned and looked at Andrew. "You decide for yourself. I need to go see Samuel."
"Are you determined to go?"
"I can only say I'll do my best to help the Anderson family," Alexander said, turning to look out the window. "In the entire Black Street District, they're the only ones daring to oppose the Patrick family. If they get taken down, Pine City will never be peaceful again. It won't be worth it."
Inside Neon Club.
Chris listened to the soft music, smoking a cigar with a boss-like demeanor. "What's the point of checking Todd's bank system? He's a thug, making dirty money every day. How could he slip up there? Check his social connections. Anyone on the run will definitely go to someone they know."
