Chapter 205 Adam Confessed

Late night.

In a white-collar apartment building in the Riverside District, William straightened his clothes and knocked on the door.

"Who is it?" a woman's voice called out.

"It's me, William."

A few seconds later, the door opened. A stylish woman smiled at William and said, "Come on in."

William walked in with Enrique and Raymond.

In the living room, Adam was smoking. He stood up and said, "William, meet my girlfriend, Jessica."

"I've heard a lot about you, Jessica," William said, shaking her hand.

"Just small business, nothing big," Jessica, who looked younger than her age, replied. "I'll get you some water. You guys chat."

"Okay," William nodded and sat on the sofa.

Jessica left, and Adam said, "Raymond, Enrique, make yourselves comfortable."

They sat down next to William without a word.

Adam put out his cigarette and lit another one.

William sensed something was off.

Adam sighed and said, "Things are getting out of control."

William rested his chin on his hand, staying silent.

"William, I might not make it this time," Adam added.

Before William could respond, Enrique frowned and asked, "What do you mean?"

"The police might arrest me soon," Adam said, looking worried. "I can't handle it."

"Bullshit!" Enrique snapped. "Adam, you said you had strong connections and nothing could bring you down. Now you say you can't hold on? We just met with the Smith family, and you said everything was fine."

"Things have changed," Adam shook his head. "I didn't expect Kyle, an important supplier, to get caught. We've worked with him for years. If he confesses and implicates me, I'm done."

"What about the Smith family?" William asked.

"The Smith family? When things are good, we're like distant relatives. When things go bad, we're just acquaintances," Adam said with a cold smile. "When Kyle got in trouble, they called me. They didn't offer help, just told me to run if I could."

William stayed silent.

"Adam, we can't do this," Enrique said angrily, hitting the table. "We've helped you a lot. Now you want to leave? We'll lose the Riverside District market and suffer."

Adam turned to William and said, "William, I didn't expect this to blow up. When Zephyr was killed, we thought it was just thugs. By the time we realized they were targeting me, it was too late. In less than half a month, we couldn't patch things up before getting hit hard. This isn't about being unprepared; they've been planning to take me down for a long time."

"William, I built this from scratch, not by cheating," Adam said seriously. "I'll still keep my promises, but it might take a bit longer."

"You're about to run. How will you fulfill them?" Enrique asked, voicing what William couldn't.

"I might run, but my money and connections in Riverside District stay," Adam said softly. "Whether I go to District Seven or Eight, I can still keep an eye on things here."

Enrique went quiet.

"I've nurtured a lot of leaders in Riverside District. As long as I'm alive, they won't turn against me," Adam continued, looking at William. "The company will keep running. Jessica will find someone to take a share, and you'll handle my connections. I'll leave Pine City and take dividends from behind the scenes."

William sat up straight and asked, "When are you planning to leave?"

"I've made arrangements, but I need to settle some things first," Adam said, his eyes dark with a cold smile on his lips. "I've lost my son and my business. I can't just leave Pine City like this."

William nodded.

"Don't worry, William," Adam patted William's leg. "You're the head of the Patrick family. If you think my ship is sinking, you can leave now, and I won't stop you. But if you think there's still hope, let's give it one more try together."

Enrique gave William a look, signaling him not to decide right there.

William was silent for a moment, then said, "Adam, if I bet, I'll see it through to the end."

"Alright, then before I leave, let's do something together," Adam nodded with a smile.

Half an hour later.

Enrique was driving and spoke to William with a hint of reproach, "It's clear Adam is done for. Why did you say you'd continue? If we stay tied to him, we might go down together."

"But if we pull out now, what about our previous investments?" William asked.

"Of course, we accept the loss."

"No, you don't get it. If we pull out now, we'll lose what we've invested and have no chance to enter Riverside District for years," William replied with a frown. "That's something I can't accept."

"But staying tied to him won't get us into Riverside District either. William, wake up! Adam is about to run. What can he do for you? He talks big, but he can't deliver," Enrique said, agitated.

"I've made my decision." William replied lightly.

Enrique gritted his teeth and said nothing more.

"Keep an eye on Leon," William instructed. "As soon as he meets Joe, notify Adam to grab him."

That night, Andrew worked late and finally got a direct confession from Kyle, along with solid evidence.

The next morning, around nine.

Andrew called Samuel and said, "We have enough evidence. I'm applying to arrest Adam, Jessica, and Adam's nephew, Milton."

"If the evidence is sufficient, go ahead. I'll inform the police department and have them notify the legislature," Samuel nodded.

In the city.

Joe was on the phone and asked, "Leon, when are you coming over?"

"In the afternoon. I'll bring you some medicine and food," Leon replied softly.

"Okay," Joe nodded.
