Chapter 76 When Will You Grow up?

David stared at Alexander, sneering. "You came here with nothing, but now you're a team leader. Do you think you can scare me? Even if the police gave you special permission to kill without consequence, do you think you'd dare do anything?"

"David, do you know why you can only be William's subservient assistant?" Alexander poked David in the chest with his finger. "Because you're short-sighted. You're so used to being a lapdog that you don't have the mindset of a leader. With your status, do you think I need to compete with you? My friend who killed Scott isn't dead yet. Do you believe he might just show up at your house for dinner one day?"

David's heart skipped a beat at this, and he knew Alexander was referring to Eric.

"William hasn't said anything, so why are you acting so arrogant? Our team was reassigned to the fourth squad by Samuel's orders. You think you're giving me a hard time, but you're actually making things difficult for Samuel." Alexander looked at David with disdain and scolded, "David, when will you grow up?"

"If David could grow up, would he have acted heroically when he ran into Joseph at the restaurant last time?" Matthew chimed in from the side, "He's quite the good Samaritan."

David exploded upon hearing this. "Are you getting a bit too cocky?"

With that, David swung a punch at Matthew's head.

"Don't fight. Calm down, David." Alexander had been waiting for David to lose control and make the first move. He stepped forward, grabbing David's arm with his left and clenching his right fist. "David, listen to me. We can argue here, and nothing will happen, but if you use violence, that will be a big deal."

David had never thought highly of Matthew. Hearing his taunt, he threw two punches at him.

Matthew dodged and pretended to be hit in the face, falling to the ground and shouting, "Why are you hitting me? What right do you have to hit me? I'm going to file a report with the police station and submit a complaint to the inspector's office. I'll sue you to death."

"Come on, get up. I give up." David, seething with anger, kicked Matthew.

Alexander grabbed David's neck with his left hand and punched his chest three or four times with his right.

David initially didn't want to fight Alexander, but after taking a couple of hits, he lost his temper and started grappling with Alexander, shouting, "Beat him up!"

Members of other groups in the first team, hearing David's call, immediately rushed in and started grappling with Alexander.

At this point, there were seven or eight of them, while Alexander only had Matthew by his side. But these two were not easy targets; they were quite cunning and had already decided not to fight back. Matthew, lying on the ground, continued to shout, "David, if you don't beat me to death today, I'll extort you to death."

"I'll show you extortion." David, gritting his yellow teeth, picked up a chair and was about to smash it down.

At that moment, William walked in through the front door, glaring and shouting, "What are you doing, are you crazy?"

With one angry shout, the room instantly fell silent.

David, panting, looked at William. "William, don't interfere today. I'd rather get fired than not beat him."

William felt a headache coming on and scolded with a dark face. "Shut up and put the chair down."

David, hearing this, calmed down a bit and, after a moment, threw the chair aside.

William frowned, glanced around the room, and walked up to Alexander, asking, "Big shot now, huh? Feeling no burden about picking fights, right?"

Alexander smiled. "William, I'm just a poor guy, and I can't be that arrogant. Today, Samuel ordered us to assist the fourth squad. I sent Matthew over for the handover, but David insisted that the equipment I used during the incident at the butcher shop didn't match up. I came to reason with him, but he got mad. Look, we have surveillance in this room. If you don't believe me, we can check the footage."

William's face darkened further when he heard that

"Matthew, go to the surveillance room and have the clerk pull up the footage," Alexander immediately added.

"Forget it." William waved his hand and, with a blank expression, said to David, "Hurry up and hand over the equipment."

"They used a grenade in that case, but it doesn't match up." David tried to argue.

"Do what I tell you to do. If it doesn't match up, figure it out yourself," William shouted, glaring.

David bit his lip and said nothing more.

William turned to Alexander, smiling, "Alexander, is there anything else you need? I'll have someone take care of it."

"No, nothing else." Alexander immediately waved his hand.

"Then if you need anything in the future, just come and tell me," William said, hands behind his back. "You're quite popular with Samuel now, the whole department revolves around you."

"William, don't joke with me," Alexander said, helping Matthew up. "Alright, we'll be going then."

William watched Alexander and continued to smile, "Alexander, I wish you smooth sailing in the department in advance."

"Thanks, William." Alexander didn't look back and left with Matthew.

Inside, William turned to David with a dark face and asked, "Can you handle this deputy team leader position or not?"

"It's not that I'm being unreasonable, it's that Matthew now dares to mock me," David argued.

"What did he mock you about?"

"He... he said I haven't grown up," David replied, eyes wide and panting.

William was silent for a good three or four seconds before saying, "That's a pretty accurate summary."

David felt utterly humiliated, his face turning red as he glanced at the nearby officers, feeling a strong urge to retort.

William looked up at David and suddenly shouted, "Samuel has made it clear that he wants to promote Alexander. Why are you making things difficult for him over such a trivial matter? Do you think you can stop Alexander from becoming a team leader, or make Samuel angry? Wearing the deputy team leader's badge, you only do meaningless things! This is an office, where the art is in smiling while dealing blows, not Maple Street, where you shout and fight at every turn."

David was left speechless by the scolding.

"If you're not sure you can take him down in one move, don't make a fuss over these little things. It only makes you look foolish," William said, frowning at David. "Samuel has already chosen his side, and it's not with us. So you can't act the same way you used to, doing whatever you want in the department. If they catch you slipping, you could be in serious trouble."

David, who was older than William, didn't argue back after being scolded for a long time. "I understand."

William knew that despite David's limited abilities and average skills, he was absolutely loyal to the Patrick family and himself. So, after calming down, he reassured him, "Tonight, come with me to see Terry. Recently, there's been talk that Benjamin's people are moving goods again, which might be related to Alexander's recent disappearance."

"Okay." David nodded.

In the evening.

After treating the team to a meal, Alexander went home early to rest. As soon as he walked in, he saw Emily sitting in a chair, chatting with the child he had picked up.
