Chapter 73 Embarking on the Journey Home
The next morning, in the dining hall, Alexander was eating breakfast and gave Andrew a sidelong glance, asking, "Where did you sleep last night?"
"Where else? I slept in the front hall with the owner," Andrew said through gritted teeth. "Coco is vicious. She wouldn't have sex with me, and she still took off my clothes."
"You deserved it." Alexander laughed heartily. "You should have seen that coming Who is Coco? She's the supplier's daughter, and she's smart. Do you really think she'd just casually hook up with you? Is that realistic?"
"I thought she was hinting at me over drinks, you know?" Andrew responded with a sidelong glance. "I thought it would be consensual, you know?"
"Didn't expect it to end up as a story of a naked guy in the cold, huh?" Eric chimed in.
"That's too much. Can I still eat my breakfast? What are you guys implying?" Andrew snapped.
Eric and Alexander laughed so hard they almost fell over, giving Andrew a thumbs up in mock respect.
As the three of them finished breakfast, Coco walked in with a cheerful demeanor.
Andrew saw her and ground his teeth. "You're up early, huh?"
"Good morning." Coco nodded with a smile, then turned to Andrew. "You have a strong constitution. It was so cold, but you didn't even catch a cold."
"I can't talk to you. I'm going out for a smoke," Andrew said, getting up to leave.
Coco smiled. "I had the owner wash your clothes, and I paid for it."
Andrew was stunned. "At least you have some decency."
Coco turned to Alexander and said, "I'm taking Tim with me today."
"Yeah, the goods are all received. We're heading back, too," Alexander extended his hand. "Let's stay in touch."
Coco's smile faded as she shook Alexander's hand. "We gave you such a good price to capture some market share. I hope you take this seriously so we can all benefit."
"Absolutely!"
"Then let's skip the formalities. I wish you a safe journey."
"Got it." Alexander waved. "I'll see you off."
"Oh, right."
Coco suddenly slapped her forehead as she reached the door. "Almost forgot the main thing. Hank Adams, come over here."
After she called out twice, a burly man walked over from a distance, carrying something.
Coco took it from him and turned to Eric. "Here is some money, some medicine for the elderly, and some clothes I bought for your sister. Please accept them."
Eric looked at Coco, visibly surprised. "Is this..."
"I'm very sorry about what happened to Paul in Pine City. Although I didn't know him well, he did a lot for us and didn't betray us even in dire situations. I'm very grateful to him," Coco said politely and formally, "This is a small token of my appreciation."
Eric was stunned for a long time, deeply moved. "Paul has ventured far and wide for years, often regaling me with tales of his many friendships, but after he got into trouble, you're the only one who remembered him and his family. Thank you."
"You're welcome." Coco handed the items to Eric and nodded with a smile. "Alright, we're leaving."
"Let's go. I'll see you off."
Ten minutes later, Alexander, Andrew, and Eric saw off Coco's team on the road.
"She's quite something," Andrew commented with his hands behind his back. "Smart and capable, and she pays attention to details. Who would've thought she'd bring something for Eric because of Paul?"
"Yeah," Alexander agreed.
"You didn't see it," Eric said to Andrew in a low voice, "Tim is usually pretty tough, right? But do you know what his expression was when he saw Coco in the car?"
"What expression?"
"Like he was staring down a killer," Eric said without hesitation. "There was a hint of fear in his eyes that he couldn't hide."
"That means there's more to her than we know," Andrew responded thoughtfully.
"Whether we know or not, our relationship with her is good at this moment," Alexander said, patting Andrew on the shoulder. "Right, Andrew?"
"I don't think my relationship with her is that good."
Alexander laughed. "Let's go. Time to pack up and head home."
In the afternoon.
Alexander handed the owner some money and waited over two hours for him to return with gasoline, matching bullets, and other supplies.
Once everything was ready, the three people began their journey back to the city. Their mindset had changed; they had been anxious and apprehensive on the way in, but now they were full of joy and ambition.
Their trip to River State had paid off, and they finally had the means to establish themselves firmly in Pine City.
Nighttime, in an office building of the Taylor family in River State.
Sitting on the couch sipped her homemade lemon tea and looked at Tim. "Have you thought about the consequences of trying to kill my men?"
Tim pretended to be calm, tilting his head with a smile. "You wouldn't dare touch me. Breaking off relations with us now wouldn't be good for you either."
"You're that confident?" Coco put down her teacup.
"I admit defeat in this matter. I'm not doing anything now, just waiting for my family to negotiate with yours." Tim knew his father and uncle were likely already in talks with the Taylor family.
"You're pretty arrogant," Coco said with a smile, "You killed Alex and don't even have a word of remorse?"
"Isn't it normal for someone to die in a business competition?" Tim responded softly.
Coco stood up, hands behind her back, looking at Tim. "Are you really not afraid of me, or just pretending to be calm?"
Tim clenched his fists. "I'm not just some street thug. I have the Baker family behind me."
"Alright." Coco nodded and suddenly called out, "Hank."
The door opened, and a burly man in a black t-shirt bent down and said, "Boss."
"Teach the Baker family heir how to speak to me," Coco said as she turned and walked away.
Hank pulled out a gun and, without expression, aimed it at Tim's knees.
"Coco, if you do this, our families will break off relations immediately."
Two gunshots rang out, shattering Tim's kneecaps.
Tim fell back in pain, knocking over the chair.
Coco turned around, hands behind her back, and spat at Tim. "You're just a descendant of one of the Baker family's side branches. Who are you trying to impress? Break off relations? Do you think you're worth the Baker family breaking off relations with us now? Hank, drag him to Alex's memorial hall. Don't treat his injuries, let the bullets stay in his bones, and make him kneel all night."
"Yes." Hank nodded.
An hour later, the Taylor family's eldest brother called, slightly reproachful. "Coco, why did you capture Tim? We already finished negotiating the terms."
"Are you stupid? With Tim in our hands, his uncle's death will definitely be blamed on us. Since we've already broken off relations, why let him go back comfortably?" Coco frowned. "Our people are out there making money and risking their lives. If someone like Alex gets into trouble and I don't react, won't the others lose heart?"
