Chapter 178 The Bizarre Gun Case

Evening, 5:30 PM

Online Radio Station, Legal Affairs Department

Emily, dressed in a sleek black suit with her hair neatly tied back, knocked on the director's office door.

"Come in."

A voice called from inside. Emily opened the door, smiled, and greeted, "Director Simmons, what's up?"

"Emily." Herman Simmons, a man in his fifties with a plump figure and greasy hair but a kind demeanor, said, "Come, have a seat."

Emily sat down opposite the desk and softly asked, "Director Simmons, is this about the last column?"

"No, I have a new assignment for you," Herman smiled and said, "About an hour ago, there was a shooting and murder at the North Station in Pine City. I want you to cover it, dig deep into the reasons behind the shooting, and report the entire process in detail. We plan to do a four-part series on it."

Emily was a bit stunned and blinked her big eyes, asking, "Director Simmons, I remember you didn't let me cover such murder cases before?"

"The previous assignments were both dangerous and didn't offer much personal achievement. Why would I let you do that?" Herman said bluntly, "Your aunt and I are old friends. If something happened to you under my watch, how could I explain it to her?"

"Director Simmons, we should be impartial at work, or my colleagues might have opinions about me." Emily scratched her head sheepishly.

"You're still too naive." Herman laughed and pointed at Emily. "This assignment is yours. Go and follow it."

"Okay, I'll do my best." Emily was actually eager to cover such news, so she didn't hesitate.

Herman took a sip of tea and suddenly asked, "Emily, are you free on Sunday?"

"Huh?" Emily was taken aback. "Yes... Yes. What's wrong?"

"My son is coming back on Sunday." Herman smiled and invited. "Why don't you come over? He heard you studied in District 3 for a year and really wants to be friends with you."

Emily blinked rapidly, awkwardly brushing her hair. "Um... Okay, I'll come on Sunday."

"My son will also be joining the online radio station in the future," Herman said with a deep meaning, "You young talents should interact more. It's a win-win."

Emily stood up. "Absolutely. I'll get to work now, Director Simmons."

"Go ahead." Herman nodded.

At Apartment 88.

Alexander had just paid his new rent when he received a call from John.

"Hello?"

"Something happened at the North Station. Hubert Diaz, a partner at Zephyr Company, and his driver were shot dead in their new house," John said urgently, "I'm already at the scene."

Alexander stood there, stunned, his mind racing. "How... How did another person die suddenly?"

"I don't get it either."

"Something's off. The more I think about this case, the more I feel it seems wrong." Alexander shook his head in confusion. "Who was the first to take the case at the police station?"

"Team One took the case, and then we were notified," John responded truthfully.

"What about Jasper?" Alexander asked.

"He was just notified and is on his way."

"Who confirmed Hubert's identity?"

"Team One verified it. I don't know the specifics, but when I arrived, they said it was a partner from Zephyr's company," John responded quickly, "This shouldn't be a mistake."

After thinking for a while, Alexander urgently instructed, "John, immediately have your team check the scene."

"We're already checking. Forensics and medical examiners are here, collecting evidence."

"No, that's not what I mean." Alexander shook his head, his face stern. "Think about it, what's crucial in Hubert's residence?"

John was stunned.

"Go do it, I'll be there soon."

"Got it, I understand."

"That's it." Alexander hung up and hurried out the door, not even having time to fill out the new rental contract.

On the road.

Jasper sat in the car, holding his phone, and said to William, "Yes, I was just notified, heading to the scene now."

"Have you figured out the basic cause of death?" William asked urgently, "Was it an accident or a premeditated murder?"

"Team One is full of Samuel's people now. They didn't tell me anything over the phone," Jasper responded in a low voice. "If it weren't for my team calling me, I wouldn't even know about this."

"Get there quickly and keep me updated."

"I will."

With that, they ended the call.

At the Crime Scene.

At the entrance of the two-story house, police tape was already up, and dozens of onlookers were gathered around.

On the left side of the road, cars were haphazardly parked, blocking the way. Emily, wearing a thick down jacket, her pretty face full of anger, shouted at the on-duty officer, "I've been asking nicely for a while, but why are you so uncooperative? We're from the online radio station's legal affairs column, we have the right to know. Why won't you let us in?"

"We're examining the scene, how can we let you in?"

"I said, we'll just take photos at the entrance, we won't interfere with your work."

"Not even at the entrance."

"Fine, then we can wait. When will you be done collecting evidence?" Emily asked, holding back her anger.

"I don't know. Just wait." The officer responded impatiently.

"What's your attitude?" Emily was so angry that she could almost bite someone.

At that moment, a police car arrived, and Alexander, leading Loren, Elbert, and others, walked over.

"Captain James!"

"Captain James!"

Two officers from Team One greeted Alexander warmly.

Alexander nodded at them and then looked at Emily in surprise. "What are you doing here?"

"You're just in time." Emily looked at Alexander with delight, grabbing his arm. "Help us get in to take some photos for a report."

"Stop joking. We're examining the scene. How can we let you in?"

"We won't cause trouble, just a few photos at the entrance," Emily said sweetly. "Please, I'll treat you to dinner, okay?"

"Can you have sex with me?"

"Fuck off!" Emily's face turned red.

"Wait a sec. After the forensic and technical personnel are done, you can go in," Alexander whispered in her ear.

"Okay." Emily nodded.

"I have to work now," Alexander said and then walked up the steps.

Inside the house.

A few minutes later, in the first-floor hall.

John walked over, holding a large evidence bag, looking excitedly at Alexander. "How did you know? After our call, I really found something crucial."

"What is it?" Alexander asked.

"I found Hubert's and Zephyr's company's secret ledgers, along with seven or eight personal account books, in his bedroom cabinet," John said excitedly. "There's a lot of information here."

Alexander fell into deep thought.

"Captain James."

At the same time, Xavier walked over and said, "This place is close to the North Station, and there's surveillance footage nearby. I checked it, there were five suspects, all wearing masks, but the leader's physical characteristics match the killer of Zephyr."

Alexander was stunned for a while and then muttered, "The tip-off Jasper received that night was probably from these robbers themselves, putting on a show."
