Chapter124
Amelia's POV
I grabbed my phone and texted back immediately I read the message, [I want to know about my daughter, tell me about my daughter] I texted him that night but he didn't reply to me and this is the second day, I waited for his call throughout the day but none came up, I was just about to go to bed when my phone ring with a restricted number, and I pressed the answering button.
"Hello, who is this?"
"Amelia..." my heart palpitations increase hearing the voice.
"Todd, is that you?" I asked knowing it was an irrelevant question, his voice alone was something I could not forget all these years.
"Amelia, I need your help, you have to help me,"
"What are you saying? Where are you and where is my daughter?"
"I will tell you but I need help."
"Oh Todd please not now, I don't want to have anything to do with you. All I want is my daughter." I growl at him.
"Do you want your daughter or not?"
"I want her."
"Then listen, I need your help." As much as I hated to bargain with this heartless monster who took my daughter away from me, for the past seventeen years, I had no choice but to listen to him.
"Fine, what do you want? Please tell me anything and I will do it."
"I owed the mafia boss some huge sum of money..."
"Go to hell Todd, I don't have money, if you don't want to tell me about my daughter then forget about it, I will get my daughter in another way."
"If you don't come here then I will ask him to go get your daughter as a payment for my debt."
"Todd, you wouldn't do that, she is your daughter too right?"
"I don't care about anyone and I have another daughter, have you forgotten?"
"Fine, what do you want?"
"I want you to pay off my debt in exchange for the truth about your daughter."
"Fine, where should I meet you?" I asked and I could hear sound from the other side of the phone.
"Meet me up at the warehouse five lanes down the road, in the next one hour,""
"You should tell her not to involve the cops or you will be dead and that worthless daughter of yours will be my sex slave." I heard someone snarl from the other side
"Please don't go after my daughter, I Will be there,"
The call ended without a reply from him, without blinking, I grabbed my phone and card, I wanted to inform Roe about the new development but on second thought I didn't want to put him in danger, I don't know how dangerous those men are and it's getting late. I just rush out.
It was late but I was determined to get there, hearing Todd's voice after so many years rattled me, not that I was scared for him but for my daughter.
I couldn't care if he rot in hell but not my Nadine.
Just five lanes and I will get there, that was all that was playing in my head. One would have thought that since it was just five lanes, I would get there in less than thirty minutes but I got there in an hour and twenty minutes even with my speed
I grabbed my phone to call the number that had called me earlier. But the number was switched off. "Dammit Todd, are you playing games with me? Come out already?" I screamed standing in front of the supposed warehouse.
"What do you want?" A deep baritone voice startled me and my body jolted before I turned to see a tall man dressed in a dark suit that didn't befit his surroundings. His eyes were dark, and there was a coldness in his gaze that sent shivers down my spine.
"I am..." I paused when I recognized the face of the man, he was Maximus Costa, a notorious mafia boss who ruled over his empire with an iron fist. 'Holy fuck...' I curse inwardly before murmuring his name. “Mr. Costa,” my voice shaking slightly but I tried to keep a brave face. “I am looking for Todd... I have come through to settle his bills.”
Maximus tilted his head slightly, a faint smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. He watched me with a look that suggested amusement as if my presence alone was some sort of spectacle.
"Who is Todd?" He asked.
"Todd Evans, the man who called from here, he said he owes you some huge sum of money," I said. Squinting his eyes, his expression darkened.
“And why...” he asked, his voice smooth and unhurried, “would you do that, Amelia Hart, the granddaughter of Shan? Why would you take on the burden of another man's mistakes?”
My heart skipped. Does he know me? What am I going to tell him? Why? Why indeed. I swallowed hard, I couldn't tell him about my daughter. I can't do that.
“He’s not capable of doing it himself,” I replied quietly, my voice steadier now. “And I don’t want to see him… suffer because of that. I have my card, I could make the transfer.”
I stretched out my unlimited card to him, it was all my savings, but he didn’t reach for it. Instead, he remained still, his expression unreadable as he stared at me.
“Amelia,” he said, dragging my name on his tongue in a way that made me feel small, “you’re too late.”
My breath caught in my throat. “What do you mean, too late? I... I have the money. It’s right here. I just...""
“Ross' debt has already been paid,” he said casually, as though discussing something trivial. His eyes glinted with something almost predatory. “In full.”
I felt my knees threaten to buckle beneath me. My mind raced, unable to comprehend anything. It couldn’t be true. He wouldn't have called if his bills were already settled.
“You’re lying,” I whispered, I felt sick to my stomach. “No one would do that for him. Who paid it?”
He smiled now, a slow and sinister curve of his lips that made my blood run cold. He took a step closer, looming over me as if savoring my confusion, my helplessness.
“That,” he said softly, “is none of your concern.”
My heart pounded in my chest. I couldn’t accept that. I can't believe that someone just showed up from the blue and saved him, I don't want to believe that he gave my daughter in exchange for his freedom.
“Please,” I begged, my voice breaking. “I need to know. Did he give you my daughter in exchange for his freedom?”
"Daughter? Do you have a daughter?" He asked but I pinned my lips, "Go on and speak, do you have a daughter with that asshole?"
