Chapter 013
Logan's POV
"C'mon tell me, what is your reason behind all this?" he urged me, I parted my lips to explain to him, but my phone rang almost immediately.
"I need to leave, I have a meeting." Meredith nodded to me. I walked out of my office door and into my elevator, I loosened my tie while I undid my buttons, that mark on my back had spread more, across my shoulder and on my left upper chest, anyone who had seen it would think it was a tattoo, a beautiful wolf tattoo not knowing it's a mark resulted from my dying wolf, I am a wolfman, what most humans dread or probably thinks that they don't exist, yet they do and I am one of them and we are millions of them out there living with humans.
I owned a Pack that I had to save but how could I save a pack when I was dying, I am suffering from acresia, it's a disease that affects wolves but this is not just a disease that occurs because of an illness but a result of the descendant curse, my family was cursed, my father had died before his 20th birthday, and that was the reason he had to claim my mother and produce an heir.
My father had noticed the mark immediately after he turned five and so was my grandfather, my great-grandfather, everyone that existed before them, and I thought I could escape it when I turned 15th and that mark that my mother had always talked about hasn't appeared but no the goddess had a different plan, the mark appears on the eve of my sixteenth birthday and it's spreading so fast but I still didn't pay attention to it until a few weeks ago, when I noticed that I am getting weaker and sometimes, I couldn't summon my wolf. I don't know if I will turn a completely ordinary human before I pass away but I will have to do something that my mother was clamoring for. I shut my eyes as my conversation with Mother replayed in my head.
"Son, show me the mark." I pushed my shirt off my shoulders revealing my back and the upper part of my shoulder and chest, Luna Louisa signed, "The mark had spread farther, no alpha had lived passed their 20th birthday. With the rate you are going and the mark spreading fast, you might not be lucky to see your 20th birthday."
"Mother, I still have time, There might be some solutions, a book or whatever, or maybe a little tips that I missed but I am sure there is a solution?" I said, these past years, I have been searching for the solution to the cure and I am hoping that I will find it.
"No son, no, more time. I have given you eighteen years worth of time, you are a few days to nineteen. Son, we have to accept it, I know it's hard for you but the truth is, nothing can break this curse." I could feel she was breaking inside but I was more broken than her.
"Mother, I know none of the past alphas have broken this curse, and none of them have been successful but..."
"Logan" she called but I interrupted her.
"Mother please, we can't quit now, look at Uncle, he is almost forty but he is still alive, and my cousin..."
"Logan, they are not alphas, you are an Alpha, not just one carrying the blood of an alpha line. Listen, son, I buried your father, my husband, because of this curse, do you also think I want to bury my son? Do you think, that I am happy that in a year or two, I might be burying my son as well? But I do not have a choice, as a Luna, it's my duty to make sure that this pack has an Alpha, an alpha from your father's lineage not from your uncle, because you are the true Alpha and your father made me promise that I should make sure his descendants continue this legacy." I shut my eyes, this is unbelievable.
"Logan, you will produce an heir before this curse takes your life." Her words left me almost paralyzed, I stared at her blankly, I wasn't expecting this. "You will produce an heir?" She repeated the same words.
"But how? How can I produce an heir, when I don't have a fated mate?" I said in frustration.
"There is no need, you will go for claiming and I found the perfect girl for the claiming." I distanced myself from her, moving to a couch a bit far from her, she was shocking me with all these revelations, she seemed to plan everything.
"You are not fucking serious are you?" I asked like I was waiting for her to smile and say it was a prank.
"Yes, I am being serious. Lady Katerina Alpha Morgan's daughter." I let out a peal of laughter that sounded so awkward, it was coming out more like the sound of tears than of humor.
"Katerina, No... I am not interested in claiming or marrying her, I don't love her."
"Katerina, Come from an impeccable family, alpha Morgan is her father and you know the man, he is nice and his Pack is strong, they are more like the second largest and strongest pack here in the east. She is perfect."
"Mother stop it, I know her, her family, her brother, their pack strength, they are good people and she is beautiful but I am not interested in claiming her, I don't love her and I don't want to get married soon." Mother shuts her eyes, taking a deep breath before she moves closer to me. "Logan, listen to me for once, look at me." She pulled my chin, making me look at her.
"I want you to live longer than your father and even other past descendants, I want you to enjoy your life and freedoms but you are the alpha, the pack depends on you, they need you and you know that the day the alpha position rested on your shoulder that day you no longer live for yourself but for your people, your duty comes first."
"Fine Mother, as you wish but I need time." Her eyebrows furrowed, she was ready to spit fire, "Six months, just six months and I will return and fulfill your wish, I will do whatever you want me to, I will claim her and give you an heir but please let me have this six months all to myself."
"Fine, I will give it to you, your cousin is coming back from Australia, he would like to see you, I was hoping that..."
"I know, my beta had informed me already, I will go on now," I said dragging my wears to cover my mark as I darted out of the building.
"Where are you?" A voice rang in my head, it was my beta's voice.
"Driving almost there," I said before my wolf who had not been speaking to me for days whimpered in my head.
'What is it?'
'Get out of the car,' he whimpers in my head.
'why? We are still pretty much far from the supposed bar?' I growled at him.
'her, we need to save her.'
'save who?' I asked and then my eyes snapped forward, there was no girl, it's just some group of boys surrounding something that I could see clearly.
'there is no...'
'Ah...' he growls.
'Fuck...' I cursed as the door of my car, flew open with force and my wolf was already out.
A loud growl echoed through the dark street, attracting those hooligans. My heart almost left my chest as their eyes snapped in my direction. I saw terror in their eyes but my gaze was focused on the girl pressed to the wall.
"Mine..." He murmured.
