Chapter 177
Akira's POV
I ran down the stairway, thinking it was Wolfie who had come for me, having that smug grin on my face. I ran my hand on my tummy, "Baby, we are meeting Dada soon," I whispered, but as soon as my feet touched the last stairs and my eyes caught the fellow sitting there, the color in my face drained off.
I thought it was Wolfie, but no, it wasn't him but his beta, I was devastated within me. I had a conversation yesterday with Roe, asking him if he was the one that told Wolfie to leave and never returned, he told me, he was mad at Wolfie, said some mean words to him and even threw a punch at his face but he didn't asked him never to show his face here.
I took Roe for his words but I was getting frustrated not seeing Wolfie for days and having no message from him, now I am beginning to wish that I was a werewolf, that way I could invade his head and just communicate through that means.
"Hey..." Meredith said waving his hand at me, giving me that awkward smile when my expression didn't change. "Probably, it's bad timing, I could go and come back..."
"No need, you are here already, just sit." I sound cold as I force my legs to move and I walk slowly to the couch opposite him. I sat there and didn't say anything to him after a moment of silence, he broke the silence.
"Is it… is the pup growing well?"
I let out a frustrated laugh.
"The pup? Did Wolfie put you up to this to find out if the pup was already gone?" I whispered, hurt flickering in my molten gaze. "Sorry to disappoint him, the pup is still there."
"He didn't and he wouldn't want that." His voice was low.
"Oh! Please, don't try to butter me, you and I know, he doesn't want this pup, he doesn't want a weak human like me to bear the next alpha of his Pack." I throw my head up because my eyes were already welled with tears, "I've tried to understand why… tried to be patient. Try to see reason while one minute, he wanted me and the next he doesn't and to make matters worse, he doesn't want the pup growing in me. I have tried to tell him that Casper and I didn't get involved in anything intimate and that the baby is his, not Casper. But I can't anymore..." My voice broke, my fingers curling over my stomach. "I wouldn't force him to accept my baby, I wouldn't throw myself at him anymore if he wants to leave—then let him leave. But don't stand here and pretend or tell me, that he cared."
His chest ached at the bitterness in my voice. Meredith shakes his head.
"You think he doesn't care?" His voice was rough, cracked from a burden only he knows, "You think he doesn't feel the pull every damn second? That he doesn't wake up at night with his weak wolf howling for you? That he left you on that lonely path because he didn't want the pup growing in you? Did he tell you, he left his Pack, the life, he knows all his damn life?" I nodded to him, "I guess he didn't tell you the reason..." He broke off, fists clenching. "You have no idea how hard it's been for him to stay away."
My expression didn't change, I just stared at Meredith blankly.
"Then why?" I demanded. "Why did he have to stay away if he loved me that much?"
"It wasn't my story to tell but all I could say was he was trying to protect you," he said hoarsely.
My laugh was bitter, cutting through the room like a blade. "Protect me? From what? From himself? From the wolf? From rejection because his Pack wouldn't accept a mere human?" Meredith shakes his head.
"From losing him."
That made me freeze. The anger in my eyes flickered, giving way to something raw—something terrified. I couldn't picture his words but I knew something was off.
He swallowed hard, his heart pounding, and his fingers trembling.
"What is happening to you?" I asked but he was sweating badly, and his nose was bleeding.
"Meredith, what is wrong with you?" His body vibrated, and with the look on his face, it was like his head was about to explode. "What is..."
"Logan... Is..." His voice was shaking and his hand gripped his throat like he was suffocating. "He only has a few weeks left to live."
He rushed the last words before his eyes rolled back before he fell unconscious and his body slumped back on the couch.
"Fuck! Help..." I called for help while I reached for his pulse and checked his neck, he was still breathing.
My eyes were already blurry with tears when Roe and Vida rushed out from their various rooms, "What happened?" Roe asked with concern as he tried to place him carefully on the couch.
"He was just trying to tell me something but his hand went to his throat and the next minute his "
"Probably, he is under an alpha command, not to tell anyone what he was about to do, or to be specific, you."
"Me?" I point a finger to my chest. She shrugged her shoulders.
"I don't know but I think that is the case, I read that Alpha does give a command on their subject, and that will prevent them from spilling some secret." My brows hike, as I let Vida's words sink into me.
"Secret?"
"Yeah, I don't know, but I think it involves you, what exactly did he even tell you?"
"He said Logan is..." I paused without taking the other side, "That he only had a few weeks to..." My words struck my throat. "Holy shit..." I curse, shaking my head as I run towards the door.
"Akira..." Vida called out to me.
"No, it can't be true," I murmured, as I reached for the door, Vida ran after me but I didn't pay attention to her, I ran out, pulling one of the car keys, I was rushing towards any of the cars that I think this key belongs to.
"What are you doing? You don't even know how to drive." She murmured then I threw the keys to her.
"Drive me, I need to see Wolfie, I don't want to think otherwise, that Wolfie is..." I couldn't even bring myself to say those words, Vida just nodded, I didn't know if she understood what to do, she just hopped into the car throwing the keys to one of those security guards, as he drove us off.
I asked Vida to wait for me in the car, and that if I didn't come out in the next thirty minutes, she could leave with the driver. I don't even know if Wolfie was here or if they would even let me in.
I walked slowly into the manor, when I got to the entrance I was about to press the bell when the door pulled open, revealing the face of Mr. Williamson, the butler, I inhaled hard, and my heart palpitations increased, and he gave me a weak smile before he step aside letting me gain entrance to the building. "he is upstairs..."
"Thanks..." I said without saying another word to him, I hurried to his room, pulled the door, and then his voice came up.
"I told you, Williamson, I don't want to be disturbed." His voice was cold and thick, he was lying on the bed.
"Wolfie..." I called, he snapped his head from the duvet and his eyes fell on me.
