Chapter 140
Akira's POV
"Gosh! She looks more beautiful on female attires than on those ugly baggy male attires." Roe couldn't help commenting more on Vida's appearance. "She is a hottie..." yet again, Roe murmured and I heard Meredith growl, with a clenched fist, and his jawbone tighten.
"Shall we?" I murmured seeing no one moving from their spot, one was sending a dagger with his eyes while the other was lost in her beauty and Vida hadn't even noticed the lustful eyes of these two men on her. I watch as Meredith shuts his eyes shaking his head while Roe clears his throat before he averts his gaze, probably realizing what he is doing.
"Sure, come on, you should ride with me while he will..."
"No need, I will ride in the same car with you all." Meredith interrupted him, my brow hike while staring at him. Does he want to ride with us? I asked mentally, knowing the other time, he just rides behind Amelia and me. "I think my car is safe here, instead of riding behind and we are going to the same place we could just go in the same vehicle." His words came in a roll and it was husky.
"Sure, c'mon," Roe said as he gestured for Meredith to get into the car, I nudged Vida, who was still struggling with the gown.
"Will you stop that, the gown is perfect." I hit her hand and pulled her with me, the car door was already parted for us, and Meredith was standing by the door behind the passenger seat. Vida was walking to the front seat when Meredith's hand went to her waist, I felt her body jolted and so was Meredith, I guess he felt electrocuted, and he withdrew his hand fast from her. Vida stared at him lost and confused.
"You should sit in the back with me, you don't want to deprive these cousins of their first-time ride."
"Okay, yeah but I don't think Akira will complain about that." She said getting onto the back seat, Vida was right, if she had asked to sit in the front seat, I wouldn't have complained while Meredith huffed before he slipped into it.
"So where are we going first?" I tilted my head to Roe immediately after he turned on the ignition.
"I don't know if you girls have breakfast already, I was thinking we should grab a quick bite first."
"That will be fine, I am starving." I ran my hand on my tummy while fixing my seatbelt, I was hungry, I didn't have anything this morning.
"That's settle it then," he turned into the lane to drive out of our yard.
"Are we eating it there?" Vida asked, biting her lower lips, as Roe turned into one of the restaurants down the lane, that is when I recalled that Vida didn't like eating out, she hated publicity, hated to be in crowded places, and to think, that she worked in a bar for two years. It's only now that I remember that Vida had endured all those hurtful words from Lady Cassandra and her client, all because of me and the cash, as much as she needed the money, she wanted to stop the very moment that a client hit her bum but I told her not to, that we both needed the job as much as we needed air to keep breathing but then I left but she stays, I wondered the reason she didn't quit when I did, we never really talk about it.
Thinking about that, I guess something was off but no matter what that means I am glad that Lady Cassandra threw her out.
"Yes, don't you like it out?" Roe asked as he stared at her through the rearview mirror.
"I..."
"Can you help us get it, we could eat in the car to save time." I bot in, seeing Vida didn't want to let it out and I was expecting Roe to, object to it but he didn't and I was glad he didn't, I don't want to keep explaining things to him.
We arrived at one of those expensive restaurants, I was thinking Roe would get down but then one of the waitresses came in with the package immediately after we arrived there, that we didn't have to go down to get it, I smiled, "Here we go," he said pulling the package, it's coffee, and snacks, so we could eat it, in the car.
"Thank you!" Vida murmured unwrapping the package.
"I think that you are going to be the best brother of the year," I said.
"Are you thinking? I thought you knew I was one already?" I smiled.
"It's not like I have another, so I think..." I paused, "fine, I know you are the best brother of the year." He chuckled before he moved out of the garage of the restaurant.
"Not really, you have another, from our grand aunty, so you shouldn't be quick to give me that spot without meeting the other," Roe said but Vida chuckled, and her eyes sparkled when she looked at him.
"Even if she had, I don't think anyone could get that spot because you are super perfect for that spot."
I watch Meredith shift in his seat, trying to focus on his coffee but the coffee in his mouth seemed tasteless right now. The expression on his face was enough to show that he didn't like the words coming from Vida.
For some reason, I just couldn't get my eyes off Meredith. Meredith's stomach churned, a lump forming in his throat. It wasn’t like he didn’t like Roe, I guess the hatred is creeping in because of Vida. Every time Vida praised Roe, it felt like a reminder that he was in some competition with this dude.
Trying to ignore the jealousy rising inside him, Meredith took a deep breath and sipped the coffee. He looked at Vida but still didn't say anything. "C'mon Vida, you are going to make my head swell, when I am not close to that picture-perfect that you are making me feel like." She raised her hand and dropped it on his shoulder.
"I am not lying, you should asked Akira, she knows I don't say things that are not true, if I say you are handsome then you are..."
"Vida..." Meredith interrupted Vida, his voice was sharper than he intended. I smirked inwardly, I guess he couldn't take it anymore. She tilted her head to him. "Could you, uh, maybe not talk so much while you’re eating? You know, It's bad to talk while eating."
Vida blinked again, her eyebrows furrowing in confusion. “What?”
Meredith realized how odd his voice sounded, and he cleared his throat. “I mean... it’s just, you know, kind of distracting. It’s hard to eat and focus on anything with all the talking, so stop talking and eat.”
Vida went mute for a moment and her smile disappeared from her face, "Stop telling me what to do." Vida scoffed, munching on her food, even when Vida didn't like the way Meredith shut her up, she didn't say anything.
"I am not telling you what to do, I just thought it's not a good habit to talk while eating." He repeated his words and Vida glared at him.
"Of course, you are telling me what to do, and I don't like it, don't tell me what to do." She snarled.
"You wouldn't want to choke while eating because you are careless not to know that talking and eating is..."
“Are you seriously telling me not to talk while I eat?” she asked, her voice cold. The mood in the car shifted, and Roe squinted watching Vida and Meredith arguing behind him through the rearview mirror.
“I didn’t mean it like that... I just thought—”
Vida cut him off, her tone firm. “You can’t tell me what to do, Mr.” she frowned before moving her eyes back to the road, just when I thought everything would end just like that, Roe's voice came up.
"Vida!!!" Roe called suddenly.
"Hmm..." She hummed.
"Talking about you being fired from your previous job, have you gotten a new job?" Roe asked and I watched Vida shake her head and her spirit was suddenly low.
"No, I haven't,"
"Would you like to work with me?" Roe asked Vida parted her lips to say something, and Meredith's voice came up.
"No, she is not looking for a job, she already got one." Vida's head snapped to him and so was my head.
