Chapter 147
Akira's POV
"Is Wolfie picking that woman over me because she is a wolf while I am just a mere human?" I watched him swallow hard before he averted his gaze. "Please Meredith, you are my friend tell me what is going on? Is Wolfie alright?" My voice was trailed off, I was broken inside already, I was just trying to hold up.
"I told you that already, go home, Akira. Don't stress yourself too much."
"You are keeping secrets from me?" My voice was laced with irritation, as frustration boiled inside of me, knowing that Meredith wasn't ready to let me into their little secret.
"Akira, what do you want me to tell you?"
"Tell me what exactly is going on and the reason Wolfie is ignoring me. That is what I want you to tell me."
"There is no reason. Logan isn't picking another female over you. So, you should go home, it's getting late, go home and rest." My nostrils flared and my eyes darkened, I knew something was off and Meredith was keeping it from me. I could read those lies between those lines.
"Get off my way, I want to talk to Wolfie."
"C'mon, Akira, I told you Logan isn't here."
"Then let me in, let me search for him, probably you could bring me to your Pack." His eyes bulged.
"You want to go to a wolf Pack?" He asked
"Yes, if that will make me meet Wolfie, I am desperate, I just want to know if Wolfie is alright."
"He is not there."
"So he is here?" I asked pushing my way. "Come out, Wolfie! We need to talk now! I know you are in there." I wanted to push through Meredith when he grabbed my arms.
"Akira, you need to leave. Logan doesn't want to see you right now, believe me, he is busy."
I glared at him, my eyes blazing. "Stay out of this, Meredith, It's between me and Wolfie. I want to see him, I want him to tell me if he is breaking up with me."
Meredith swallowed hard, standing his ground but uncomfortable. "I can't let you in. Please, just go home."
Before I could retort, Vida, who had been quite beside me, grabbed my arm. "Akira, let's go. This isn't the way to handle things."
I tried to pull away, my anger still simmering. "No, I need to talk to him!"
Vida tightened her grip on me, her voice firm yet gentle. "Not like this. Come on, we'll sort it out tomorrow. Maybe, he will call you by tomorrow but for now, let's leave."
After a tense moment, my shoulders slumped, no need to fight it, Meredith wouldn't change his mind. I sighed just allowing Vida to lead me away, casting one last glance at the closed door where Meredith was standing in front of me.
"Fine, I will leave." I snarled at him, before walking out with Vida.
The drive home was a blur. By the time the driver pulled into our driveway, the first tears had begun to fall. I sat in the car for a long time, staring blankly at the windscreen, my mind racing with questions. What could be so serious that Meredith was keeping it from me? And why didn’t they trust me enough to let me help? I thought Wolfie said I was his Luna. Why then am I being treated like some stranger?
This question bore in my heart but no one answered it, Vida didn't say a single word to me, all she did was give my hand a little press, hoping to share her strength with me.
As I finally made my way back inside, the apartment felt colder than before. I sank onto the couch, my phone still clutched in my hand. A part of me wanted to keep calling, to demand answers, but another part of me knew it would be useless since no one was taking the call.
Vida's hand falls on my shoulder, "Akira, you should stop thinking that something has gone wrong and he is picking another female over you."
"What if he is? What if that she-wolf was the female that his family wanted? What if she is a better Luna than me? Who will want a clumsy human for a..."
"Akira stop..." Her voice was a little higher, my eyes snapped to her.
"Am I bothering you? Are you getting tired of my tantrums?" She shakes her head pulling my hand.
"No, you are not throwing a tantrum, and I am not going to get tired of you, so you should wipe that off your small skull. How can I possibly get tired of a heiress that with the snap of her fingers, my life will turn into a rosy garden." I chuckled, I couldn't keep a straight face or even be sad whenever she was around but it didn't change the fact that I was broken inside. "Now, give me that beautiful smile,"
"Vida stop it," I stop her from trying to tickle me, she sighed.
"I am sorry, I understand you're antsy, if I were in your shoes, I would do the same but this will only get us nowhere..."
"Are you saying I should forget about Wolfie?"
"No... I only want to protect you, I don't want you beating yourself over what is going on, I don't want you thinking that Wolfie is doing something behind you."
"What if he is?"
"He can't, he still has your mark, just as you have his, Wolfie can never be with another female when you still have the bond intact."
"I am scared Vida, what if he asked for rejection?" She wiped the tears that were already shedding on my eyes.
"Wolfie will never ask for rejection, if he wants he would have done that."
"You think so?" She nodded
"I know so, so if I were you, I would wipe my face and party before I am finally introduced into a world where I can't walk freely."
"Vida, are you saying that if I am introduced as the heiress of the Shan group I will automatically be in a bind."
"Of course, you don't need answers to that because you should know that your privacy will be snatched, you will go everywhere with guards."
"Vida, you are mean." She tittered before she grabbed my hand.
"Instead of sulking here, let's hit the bar and forget about pain."
"Vida!!!"
"Stop screaming, you know if ever we get into trouble, we could just get the gladiator with that." She points at the bracelet on my wrist.
"I am not talking about that, you know it's not yet the weekend, you still have work to do, how are you going to manage if you get drunk on a working day?"
"I can't get drunk and who is saying anything about getting drunk." I parted my lips to say something but Vida pulled my wrist. "let's party like it's no man's business." I know Vida, she is not the party type, she said we should party means something is off and she didn't throw a glance at Meredith when we went to the mansion, something must have gone wrong.
Vida wasn't herself these days, she must be going through something, while I was being a bitch. "Did something happen today at work?" Her gaze snapped to me, as I tried to get out of that disgusting dress, "Go on and tell me, did something happen between you and Meredith?"
