Chapter 031

Akira's POV
The doorbell chimed as I pressed hard it, and with my other hand, holding my phone to my ear, while clutching the files under my axilla. "Akira, are you there?" Vida asked.
"Yes, I just arrived there, pressing on the bell but no one had answered."
"Oh, you should hurry, I think the weather is not been friendly, I am sure it's about to rain."
"Yes, I am just going to drop it and leave, I guess Meredith needed to fix it since Wolfie is not around, and thank you for accommodating me even though I didn't inform you on time."
"Stop talking nonsense you know my apartment is always open to you and who is that handsome guy, they said you arrived with?"
"Vida, he is Casper," I pressed on the bell again.
"Wait, is he, Casper Adams, the CEO of..."
"Who is there?" I finally heard a reply.
"Talk to you later," I said ending the call, "Akira..." I replied, earlier, Casper had driven me to Vida's apartment but she wasn't around, so she left her keys under her doormat so I could have access to the apartment, I was just settling down and saw Casper at to door when my phone ping from Meredith, that I should go to the office and get a file, and that is what brought me here, and within moments, that I introduced myself, the heavy glass door swung open. A tall man in his late forties with a neatly trimmed beard stood before me.
"My name is Akira Ross, I am Mr. Wolfie's assistant, I am here to give Mr. Meredith, the file he asked for." I stretched out my hand to him. His gaze moved to my hand then back to my face, "Oh..." I closed my hand. "sorry, could you please inform Me? Meredith..."
"Come with me." He said before giving way for me to walk in, I hope I can drop this before the rain, my eyes moved to a dark and swollen cloud with impending rain, looming ominously overhead. I hurried behind the man.
"Williamson..."
"uh..."
"My name is Williamson," he said as I walked into the ivy-clad mansion.
"Oh! Mr. Williamson, nice to meet you." I said nervously, I had never been to his house before, and the impressive façade added to my nervousness.
"Akira..." Someone called from the other side, I tilted my head to him, Wolfie, he is the one calling out to me.
"Sir Wolfie..." I called, his Butler turned and looked at me then him.
"Don't worry Williamson, I will take it from here," he said, he is just in his housecoat, and his tousled hair makes him look extraordinary. I shake my head pushing the thought that he is handsome to the back of my head. "Come inside," he said walking deep into the building.
I stepped inside, the interior of the house was just as grand as the exterior, with polished marble floors, high ceilings, and walls adorned with tasteful artwork. Wolfie sure had a good taste, I said mentally as he led me into a spacious study room, lined with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves.
"Ahem..." I cleared my throat. "I didn't know you were out of the hospital,"
"You didn't come back." He said, his deep baritone voice was nice to hear.
"I am sorry, I would have called but I was scared of your wolf..." I pinned my lips almost immediately, and his eyes dilated.
"Wolf..."
"Sorry, I didn't mean to say that, where is Mr. Meredith, he asked me to bring these files here," I said changing the topic, he moved closer to me and pulled the file.
"You were saying that I have a wolf what?" He asked, I shut my eyes, as I scolded myself inwardly, how could I be so careless, wanting to call his girlfriend wolf? I force a chuckle, he stares blankly at me.
"What I mean is, she is..." I paused, I didn't even know what to say, how can I justify myself, for referring to Katerina as a wolf. "how is your tummy?" He shrugged his shoulder.
"Getting better..." He gestured for me to sit. "I am the one in need of the files." He added after taking a seat.
"You are going back to work? Why didn't you take more days off?" My voice was laced with worry and concern and he moved his gaze to me.
"It's boring." He sighed, I fidget with my fingers before my voice came up.
"I am sorry for what happened, I didn't know that Ethan would create a scene there and drag you into my mess, I didn't mean to, and if you want to arrest him for..." He raised his head and stared at me.
"Will you be fine, if I arrest your boyfriend?"
"He is no longer my boyfriend and even if he was, he did wrong, so if you want to sue him for what he did to you, I will not label you evil, and if you want, I could give my statement..."
"No need for that, there are other ways to beat a child..."
"He is not a child, he is twenty-two, probably older than you." His eyebrows hike.
"And who told you, I am less than that?" My eyes bulge, "go on?"
"I thought so because you are young and handsome."
"Young and handsome? Are you finding me attractive?" My mouth forms an O before I shut it immediately. I stood there transfixed for a couple of minutes before I realized my stupidity. Wolfie was watching me all this time before he cleared his throat.
"Sorry, I will just go."
"It's raining." He said, I pinned my lips and seat back. "thank you for bringing this on such short notice," he said, his voice warm but brisk. "You should wait till the rain stops and I'll just need a few moments to go over this," he said, focusing on the file. I shut my eyes, only God knows how I managed to control myself and not let my guard down, I see the reason his former assistant was fired, he is too handsome to be ignored, no, Akira, you should push whatever feelings you have for him off your head "Make yourself comfortable."
I nodded and settled into a plush armchair near the large window. Staring outside hoping the rain should stop fast, so I could go home. As Wolfie focused on the documents, I watched the first raindrops spatter against the glass, at first, it was coming like a drop and in a blink, the rain intensified, hammering down in a torrential downpour. The wind howled, rattling the windowpanes, and lightning occasionally split the sky, followed by the rumble of thunder. I clenched my fist, I am always scared of thunder and lighting
"Akira, are you alright?" He said, his face was filled with concern.
"Yes, I am fine," I said with gritted teeth, I shut my eyes and clenched my fist, but the room was illuminated by flashes of lightning, quickly followed by the booming cracks of thunder. My fingers trembling as I tried not to show that I was scared. I hoped it would stop, soon, it came stronger than my heart could bear, my heart raced each time the storm outside let loose its fury, and I flinched with every thunderclap.
Wolfie dropped his files and focused on me, it's obvious my actions didn't go unnoticed by him. He noticed my discomfort. As another bolt of lightning split the sky, I couldn't hold it anymore, I let out a loud gasp and instinctively ducked my head.
"Akira," Wolfie's voice was soft but firm, "Are you sure you are alright?"
Slowly, I moved my head and looked up, my eyes welled up with tears and filled with fear. "I'm sorry, Wolfie, I...didn't mean to disturb you."
"Shut up and tell me what is wrong with you?" He said standing from the chair.
"The storm, I am terrified of storms," I murmured.
He sighed and walked over, his footsteps muffled by the carpet. "It's fine, Akira. Everyone has their fears." He moves his hand and places them beside mine and there comes another loud rumbling.
I could no longer hide my fear, I pounced on him, knocking him to the floor, I clung to him tight, while I buried my face in his chest and I was shaking badly. I didn't know how he managed to lift himself from the floor but I knew I was wrapped in his hand, and then he moved gently to the couch and dropped me on it. He wanted to leave but I pulled him closer not letting go of his neck, "Please, don't leave me, I am scared."
