Chapter 175

Akira's POV
"Mother... Vida..." I called as their unconscious body was carefully lying on the floor. "What did you do to them?" I snarled, struggling to break free.
"Don't worry, they wouldn't die from what I did to them but they would die eventually." My tears drop.
"Ross, what have you gotten us into?" It was Sarah, my stepmother, who spoke this time. "please let us go, you can hold Akira, but let us go." I stared at my stepmother blankly, I wasn't expecting anything different from her actions. She never liked me and would never do.
I felt like I was drowning, struggling to breathe under the weight of the revelation. Everything I thought I knew about the man that I called father, my supposed family was a lie.
“If I wasn't part of the deal, why did you get her pregnant?" I asked with a shaking voice, I was already sobbing.
"It was a mistake, one thing led to another and I found myself sharing a bed with a seventeen-year-old girl when I was just supposed to lure her away from home."
"So you took advantage of her because of money for your gambling?"
"No... I didn't mean to hurt her, I didn't want to do it but your sister was dying and I needed money, I went to the Shan Groups for employment but I met Miranda, and she offered me this and I was desperate, so I give in even after rejecting it at first. I thought I was going to end it after she gave me money but Amelia told me, she was with a baby and that her grandfather would kill her if he found out. I wanted her to terminate the pregnancy but Miranda didn't want that. She said it was an opportunity to take her away. So she gave me money to care for Amelia and the pregnancy." A little smile crept into his face, "I wouldn't lie, I was happy that I was going to have another child. I was going to be a father, for the second time, since Sarah wouldn't be able to have another baby." He admitted, his voice barely above a whisper. His eyes shone with regret. “I didn’t mean to hurt your mother, I was supposed to kill her after the baby but I couldn't, I couldn't kill the mother of my child and I know she was going to be in danger, the only way I could make her go back home, was to take you away from her...”
Miranda slammed the gun against his temple, making him grunt in pain. “You double-cross me,” she snapped. “You got paid. You are supposed to play your part.”
I clenched my fists. “You hated her that much? Your sister?”
Miranda exhaled sharply. “Hate? No. But I resented her weakness. I resent her whole existence. I resented the fact that I was her shadow, father loved her more than me. She was willing to throw everything away for a dream, a fantasy, a mirage, I had to act.”
“She was happy, you would have let her find true love,” I said through gritted teeth, as my eyes snapped to my unconscious mother on the floor. I felt pity for her.
Miranda’s eyes darkened. “No, She was supposed to die, not find true love and there is no true love anywhere. Didn't the male, you are carrying his child abandon you in nowhere? Didn't you also think that he is your one true love?” I lowered my gaze, she was right, probably there is no true love anywhere.
My breath caught. “You were going to kill your sister?”
“Yes but I Failed,” She said flatly. “The day, this imbecile left with you, she was devastated, she was vulnerable, I would have ended her life that day, but my men couldn't get to her before she returned to the mansion, and my father, didn't send her away, he took her in and gave my brother's son to her to cared for, while I was there, I guess father didn't love me enough to entrust someone to me and he never for once throw an eye on my kid, while he throw me out the very moment I pick a man that he didn't approve of.” she wipe the tears falling from her eyes. "But not to worry, I will not miss this time because if my bullet missed, these men here and outside wouldn't miss it, immediately I gave the go signal."
Tears burned my eyes. I had spent my whole life trying to put pieces of the memories of my biological mother, clinging to the little bits my father had given me. And now, those pieces felt like ashes in my hands.
What if I didn't meet her again? What if she had died all these years, I would have been left in the dark for the rest of my life. I would live with the lies that my mom was a call girl or some random prostitute.
Miranda turned back to Father. “Confess the rest.”
Father’s jaw tightened. “I tried to be a good father,” he said. “I did. But… I never deserved her. Or you.”
I shook my head. “You let me believe that my biological mother was a prostitute and you abandoned me to the woman that she and her daughter didn't like me. I worked to care for them, just so I could get their approval but they never did, guess what they did, they threw me out with nothing.”
“I know,” he whispered. “And I’m sorry.”
Tears streamed down my cheeks, but I refused to break. “You’re a coward,” I whispered.
Miranda let out a slow, satisfied breath. “There. Now you know.”
The room was thick with silence. The gun was still in Miranda’s hand, but her finger wasn’t on the trigger anymore.
I met my aunt’s gaze, hatred burning in my chest. “And what now? You will kill us?”
She studied me for a long moment, then smirked. “Yes...”
Just a word, but my entire being broke, my eyes darted to my mother, who was regaining consciousness.
"Mother..."
"Nadine..." She called struggling to get up, but her bound feet and arms couldn't allow her, her eyes blurry with tears.
"Wow... The princess is finally awake."
"What madness is this?" Aunty Miranda let out a mocking laugh.
"Don't you know? What this is all about?" She asked.
"I don't know what you want Aunty Miranda..."
"Don't call me aunty, I am not your aunty?" Mother swallowed hard, she wiped her face profusely, "Why wouldn't he accept me and see me the way he sees you? I am his daughter just the way you are his daughter."
"Daughter? What the fuck are you saying, Aunty?"
"Don't you dare call me your aunty, you should stop sticking around here, it's bad enough that your prostitute of a mother took my mother's place as his wife and here you are taking my place as his daughter, aren't you a parasite, a pest that wouldn't go away. Why can't you just disappear? That is the right thing people do when they are not welcome in a place. They turned around and left." She snarled. "Anyways, since you don't want to leave them I will make you leave." She growled, pulling the trigger and I heard a shoot.
