Chapter 139 My Heart Is Only for You
Juliet didn't need to say another word; the other two were already chatting away, making Wren feel pretty uneasy.
But thinking about how good Daniel usually was to her, Wren shook her head and said, "My husband wouldn't do that."
"Wren, I'm not trying to stir the pot, but what's the name of your tutor?" Juliet asked.
Wren thought for a moment and said, "Ms. Grey?"
She wasn't paying much attention to this matter, even though she had heard the name countless times, she still couldn't remember it right away.
Juliet patted her hand and said, "Katniss?"
"Oh, right!" Wren suddenly realized and asked, "How do you know?"
Juliet put her cards on the table and said angrily, "I thought she looked like Katniss. She's my son's boss, keeping him late at their institution, pretending to sleep to tempt him!"
Juliet continued, "I even had my son quit his job, but she still has him thinking about her and wanting to find her."
Wren was shocked. "Really? Is she that kind of person?"
Juliet said, "I'm telling you, some people don't look it, but they're rotten to the core. I know this Katniss well. Do you know Tristan?"
As soon as Juliet asked, Wren nodded repeatedly. She had heard Daniel mention that name at least a dozen times!
Juliet said, "Even Tristan was once seduced by Katniss. Look at that slim waist and long legs, what man wouldn't be tempted? And Tristan is way more impressive than Daniel. But Tristan, with his special status, was just momentarily infatuated and didn't get fooled by her. But Daniel, who knows."
Juliet's words made Wren shiver inside.
Daniel was her everything; he couldn't be tempted!
"Enough, let's continue playing cards." Seeing that she had said enough, Juliet shuffled the cards and started a new game.
Wren's mind wasn't in it anymore, but she couldn't just ask them to leave, so she continued playing absentmindedly.
As a result, she lost quite a bit of money.
Juliet casually asked when Donna's class would end, then wrapped up the game before class was over and left with the other two.
As soon as they left, Katniss came downstairs. Seeing Wren sitting alone in the living room, she hesitated for a moment and greeted her. "Mrs. Wilson, the lesson is over. I'll come back tomorrow. Goodbye."
"Wait." Wren stood up, crossed her arms, and walked over. "Did Daniel ask you to tutor, or did you promote it?"
Katniss pondered for a moment and said, "I called Mr. Wilson."
Wren's face darkened. "How do you have his number?"
The moment Katniss saw Juliet at the Wilson Family, she knew there would be trouble, so she was unfazed by Wren's questioning.
Katniss replied, "Mr. Wilson had inquired about tutoring online and left his number. We used big data to capture it and proactively contacted Mr. Wilson. I'm sure many other institutions also contacted him."
Finally, Katniss added, "I wasn't the first to call Mr. Wilson; it was our institution's receptionist."
She answered without giving anything away, leaving Wren momentarily speechless.
Car lights shone from outside, and Katniss took the opportunity to excuse herself. "It's getting late. I won't disturb you any longer. Mrs. Wilson, goodbye."
She turned and left.
Daniel had just gotten out of the car, seemingly drunk, and stumbled when he reached Katniss.
Katniss quickly steadied him and then immediately pulled back, keeping her distance.
"Ms. Grey, I'm sorry." After swaying a bit, Daniel finally recognized her.
She shook her head with a smile and said, "Mr. Wilson, you should go inside. Mrs. Wilson is waiting for you."
She glanced back, and Wren was standing at the door, staring at them, as if they had done something wrong.
She quickly got into her car and drove away.
Back home, Daniel was bewildered by Wren's questioning.
"What is your relationship with Katniss!"
"What relationship?"
"Tell me, did she seduce you? Did you let her tutor Donna because you couldn't resist her looks?"
Daniel hiccupped and waved his hand. "What nonsense are you talking about? My heart is only for you!"
Wren angrily slapped his back a few times.
"You ungrateful man, who stood by you during the tough times? If you dare betray me, I'll kill you." After crying and fussing for a while, she found that Daniel had fallen asleep on the couch, having drunk too much.
But it wasn't over. The next morning, as soon as Daniel woke up, he faced Wren's accusations.
Fully awake, Daniel understood what she was angry about after just two sentences.
He said, "Stop it. I've only met Ms. Grey a few times. There's nothing going on, and Ms. Grey is a decent person. Don't listen to others' nonsense!"
Wren didn't really care about Daniel's explanation; deep down, she believed in Daniel's loyalty to her.
But she was worried about Daniel's emotional infidelity, so making sure Katniss was someone Daniel couldn't get involved with was necessary.
She smiled at Daniel, "Okay, I understand. Oh, by the way, I accidentally sent a wrong message last night and invited someone named Tristan from your Facebook to dinner. He agreed. You don't mind, do you?"
Daniel's heart sank at the mention of Tristan, and he immediately pulled out his phone to check the chat history.
Wren's message was a bit cryptic: [Ms. Grey is coming over for tutoring tonight. Donna's grades have improved a lot recently, so I plan to invite her for dinner. You should come too!]
Tristan replied with a simple "Okay" after a while.
Wren observed Daniel's expression. "What? Are you unhappy?"
"Of course not!" Daniel shook his head decisively. "Honey, you're amazing. Mr. Forbes is hard to invite, and you got him over with a mistaken message!"
Excited, he quickly called his boss, decided not to go to work today, and started organizing the servants to prepare a feast for Tristan.
Seeing Wren's message, he also remembered that Donna's grades had indeed improved recently.
Since Katniss knew Tristan, he decided to invite her for dinner as well.
It would also be a way to acknowledge Katniss's abilities in front of Tristan and help her out.
Receiving Daniel's enthusiastic invitation for dinner, Katniss hesitated for a moment but agreed.
She thought, perhaps Wren needed an explanation.
After handling some work during the day, she started preparing materials for Donna's lesson.
She also thought about how to keep her job and gain Wren's trust without losing face.
After getting off work around five, she bought some fruit on the way.
Unlike usual, the front door was open today, and the servants were busy coming in and out.
Katniss got out of the car and was surprised by the scene. She was just a tutor; was all this necessary?
Feeling a bit uneasy, she entered the Wilson mansion and saw Daniel dressed in a suit, looking like he was going out.
"Ms. Grey, you made it!" Daniel said as he welcomed her into the living room. "Oh, you didn't have to bring fruit. Come on in, have a seat."
Katniss sat on the couch and noticed that the dining table was already set with a dozen dishes, and the kitchen was still bustling.
She smiled and said, "Mr. Wilson, you didn't have to go to so much trouble."
"It's no trouble. The food might take a while. You can rest here for a bit." Seeing Katniss a bit uncomfortable, Daniel added, "Or you could go upstairs and tutor Donna for a while."
Hearing this, Katniss, who had just settled down, stood up again. "Okay."
She went upstairs and opened the door to find Donna chatting on her phone. Seeing her, Donna quickly put the phone down.
"Balance work and play; it's okay to have some fun," Katniss said. She thought Donna was afraid of being scolded.
But Donna smiled awkwardly, and her phone buzzed a few times with incoming messages.
"Go ahead and play. I came early today. Your parents want to invite me for dinner." Katniss sat by the window and took out her phone, making Donna feel comfortable enough to continue playing.
Katniss glanced at Donna, who seemed to be chatting with someone, occasionally laughing, and her phone kept buzzing.
She didn't think much of it until she heard a car horn outside after about ten minutes.
Donna quickly put her phone down and said, "Ms. Grey, I'm going to change my clothes."
"Change clothes? Why? We're just having dinner downstairs, not going out." Katniss watched Donna head into the closet, feeling puzzled.
Donna's muffled voice came from the closet, "Since we have guests for dinner, it's more polite to change. How about this dress?"
She held up an orange dress with a cinched waist, matching her cute appearance.
"You still see me as a guest?" Katniss stood up, smiling as she ruffled Donna's hair. "I've seen you in your pajamas so many times. It's okay."
"You're not a guest, of course." Donna smiled and went back to change.
She came out shortly, bouncing around with a youthful energy.
Katniss had never seen her in such a good mood; she hadn't stopped smiling since she started changing.
"Do I look good?" Donna asked, tying her hair in front of the mirror, her cheeks flushed.
"You look great." Katniss was even more puzzled. "Why are you so happy?"
Donna lowered her head without answering, and downstairs, lively conversation could be heard.
This left Katniss confused. Were there other guests besides her?
"Ms. Grey, let's go down later." Donna looked nervous, sitting back down and fiddling with her phone.
Katniss finally couldn't help but ask, "Did your parents invite someone else?"
As soon as she finished speaking, footsteps approached from outside, stopping at Donna's door. The slightly ajar door was pushed open, and a figure appeared.
