Chapter 401 Is He Ms. Grey's Husband?

"Ask her to do what?" Delbert looked disapproving, "You know her relationship with Tristan, asking for trouble?"

Maddy pulled Delbert further into the corner, "Didn't you hear what they said? Katniss has already given up, but we don't know if she's just saying that or if it's true. It's better to test her before the wedding than to have her cause trouble on the wedding day, right?"

"If Katniss's giving up is just a false message to make them lower their guard and then cause trouble on the wedding day, it will be too late to regret it."

Her reasoning was sound, and Delbert hesitated for a moment before agreeing, "OK, I'll have someone invite her over tomorrow to join the fun."

Due to regional differences, customs varied greatly.

Katniss received an invitation from the Nguyen family, asking her to come over for meals for the next three days, and she quickly agreed.

Just as Samuel arrived, he was in town, so she called him to buy some expensive gifts.

It was only after three in the afternoon that Samuel arrived at the small village from town.

Seeing the environment and the marks still on Katniss's neck, Samuel couldn't help but frown.

"You really can endure it; you've sacrificed a lot for him."

Katniss took the gifts he brought, "I can't endure it anymore. Once you're done with the survey, I'll go back with you."

Samuel's eyes lit up, "Really? You can let go?"

"Even if I can't, I have to." Katniss said without hesitation, "The Nguyen family is lively these days. Since you're here, come with me."

"Alright, most of the villagers are at the Nguyen House, so I can learn about the local customs." Samuel looked at the house behind her. "You live here?"

There were no cars here, and it was inconvenient for him to stay in town, so Katniss simply let him stay here.

The first floor was full of Ryan, Emory, and a few others.

So Katniss directly arranged for him to stay on the second floor.

After settling in, the two of them took Evie to the Nguyen House, and along the way, Katniss introduced some of the local scenic spots and planned.

As they gradually entered the festively decorated street, Samuel knew they were close to the Nguyen House.

From a distance, they could see a constant stream of people at the entrance of the Nguyen House.

"Can you hold Evie for a while?" Katniss had been holding her all the way, and her arms were sore.

Samuel took her without hesitation. Although Evie, who was over nine months old, recognized people, she wasn't shy.

Being held by Samuel, whom she had only seen a few times, she played happily, reaching for the small lantern decorations hanging above.

A figure appeared at the entrance of the Nguyen House, and Katniss caught a glimpse of it out of the corner of her eye, but she didn't look over. Instead, she said to Samuel, "Take down a small lantern for her, let her be happy for her dad's wedding."

The lanterns weren't very high, and Samuel could reach them with a slight tiptoe.

But he felt it was inappropriate and was about to speak when he saw Tristan at the entrance.

He looked at Katniss, who had her eyes lowered, and seemed to understand something.

"Alright, I'll get it." He took down a small lantern and handed it to Evie, who started waving it around.

Seeing Evie so happy, Katniss couldn't help but smile too.

They turned and walked to the entrance of the Nguyen House with Evie.

Seeing Tristan standing at the entrance in the sunset, Katniss was silent for a few seconds before smiling and saying, "Mr. Forbes, congratulations in advance."

Tristan's hand at his side clenched slightly, but his face remained expressionless. "Thank you, please come in."

"Let's go." Katniss said to Samuel, who was holding Evie, "You must be tired from the long journey, eat more later."

She spoke softly.

Samuel was still in shock from seeing the stark difference in Tristan's appearance.

It wasn't until Katniss touched his arm that he snapped out of it and said, "Mr. Forbes..."

Tristan nodded slightly, "Please come in."

Katniss grabbed Samuel's wrist and entered the Nguyen House, where they were immediately greeted.

She was now a popular figure in the village, and everyone was eager to curry favor with her.

After leading her and Samuel to sit down, someone spoke first, "And this is..."

A group of scrutinizing eyes looked at Samuel, knowing that Evie was Katniss's daughter.

So, the man holding Evie?

"Is he Ms. Grey's husband?"

"He's young and handsome, and looks talented too!"

"So lucky."

The voices floated out of the courtyard, reaching Tristan's ears at the entrance.

He leaned against the wall, a cigarette between his fingers, taking a deep drag, not hearing how Katniss responded to the group.

He only heard the group's teasing voices getting louder.

"Mr. Forbes..." Maddy came out of the courtyard. "Everyone's almost here, let's go in."

Tristan asked, "Did you have her invited?"

Maddy's throat tightened, quickly deflecting, "My dad thought it was appropriate to invite Ms. Grey since she's a popular figure in the village now."

Tristan's penetrating gaze seemed to see through Maddy's thoughts.

He extinguished the cigarette, threw it on the ground, and walked into the courtyard with his hands in his pockets, "Stop those petty thoughts."

Tristan's voice wasn't loud, but it made Maddy's back feel cold. She adjusted her thoughts for a long time before following him in.

The courtyard had seven or eight tables, very lively.

Everyone focused on Katniss and Samuel, chatting about the future of the village as a resort.

Katniss glanced at Tristan, who hadn't spoken since sitting down, seemingly uninterested in the village's future.

"Today we're not the main characters, let's save the village renovation talk for later and focus on the upcoming wedding."

The villagers, feeling embarrassed for ignoring the main characters, quickly started discussing the wedding with Delbert.

Katniss finally had some free time, feeding Evie some food, "Give her to me, you eat first."

"No need, she seems to like me." Samuel, who had never held a child before, was charmed by the adorable Evie in his arms.

Evie grinned at Katniss, showing her two small teeth, not wanting to go to her. When she saw Tristan, she called out and smiled even more.

Katniss looked up, meeting Tristan's hawk-like eyes, and quickly turned Evie's head to look elsewhere.

"Good girl, don't look around, it's scary." Evie smiled at her, then stood up on Samuel's lap, turning around to hug and kiss Samuel's head.

Tristan sat there, his hand under the table clenched into a fist.

Watching the harmonious scene of the three across from him was particularly jarring.
