Chapter 309 Doubts About Her Character

Matilda had been through the same early-career struggles as Hazel, and she had endured a lot of disdain.

Back then at The Astor Corporation, wasn't it because she couldn't afford to offend people that she was forced into that situation?

And Hazel, with her baby face and large chest, always attracted attention wherever she went, which is why she was so proactive.

"Alright, I see your expected salary is between three thousand and eight thousand dollars. The probation period is three months at five thousand dollars, and after three months, it will be eight thousand dollars. If you do well, earning over ten thousand dollars a month won't be a problem. If you agree, let's schedule a time to sign the contract tomorrow."

Matilda took out a business card and handed it to her, "This is my business card. Contact me later to arrange where to meet tomorrow."

Hazel quickly took the business card. It was really not easy for a fresh graduate to get such a good offer!

"Miss Stuart!" She nodded repeatedly, "Alright, I'll contact you later!"

"Okay, goodbye." Matilda waved at her, watching her run over to her classmates. She didn't know what she said, but several girls exclaimed in surprise together.

Seeing this, Matilda couldn't help but smile. She turned around, bent down to pick up a small sign, and walked out, but accidentally bumped into a figure at the corner.

"Odette." Seeing who it was, Matilda felt a bit nervous.

A few days ago, George said he had already told Odette about their relationship, and Odette had agreed.

She was thinking of finding a suitable opportunity to arrange a meeting, but she didn't expect to encounter her in this situation.

Feeling impolite, she nervously clutched the sign, "I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention. Are you alright?"

"It's okay." Odette's attitude was cold as she looked Matilda up and down, "What are you doing here?"

"I'm recruiting." Matilda pointed back at the job market, then looked in the direction Odette had come from.

The job market was right next to the matchmaking market. She was here for recruitment, so was Odette here for matchmaking?

Of course, it wouldn't be for herself, since George's father was still very much alive, and their relationship was great.

So it must be for George?

Matilda opened her mouth and saw that Odette was holding a few photos, all of girls.

"George said you're very capable now, managing an educational institution. It seems you're doing quite well."

Odette smiled and continued, "Don't be nervous. Don't let your relationship with George ruin the relationship between our families. I still get along well with your mother. The breakup was partly my fault, so don't hold it against him. We'll inevitably see each other in the future."

So? Odette didn't agree with her being with George at all.

Thinking of how George had confidently said a few days ago that Odette had agreed, the extreme contrast in emotions made Matilda's ears burn.

She pursed her lips and then forced a smile, "Can I ask why? You chose Katniss back then because you thought she was capable and could manage George. Is it because I'm not as capable as Katniss?"

"Of course not." Odette answered very straightforwardly, "Actually, you're very pretty and well-behaved, and I quite like you. But don't forget, Katniss had gotten on well with George before, but instead of being with her, he ended up with you. To be blunt, I have some doubts about your character."

It was like a bolt of lightning struck her, instantly filling Matilda's heart with grievance and shock.

Doubts about her character? That's putting it nicely. She actually thought Matilda had seduced George, Katniss's boyfriend.

This accusation was suffocating!

"You managed to get involved with someone Katniss had dated, it's hard for me not to think too much. If my words have hurt you, I'm sorry, but that's really what I think." Odette nodded at her and then walked away.

Matilda stood there, her throat choked, wanting to call Odette back and tell her that Katniss and George were never together.

It was George who pursued her first.

But she couldn't say it.

Ultimately, this news came as a shock.

Why did George lie to her? What couldn't be discussed openly?

Just then, her phone rang. It was George calling.

"Matilda, are you done? Didn't we agree to have dinner tonight? I'll come pick you up." George's side still had the sound of typing on a keyboard.

"I just saw your mom at the matchmaking market. She was holding photos of girls, picking a match for you. She also said she doesn't agree with us being together because she thinks I got involved with someone Katniss had dated, and she questions my character."

Every word Matilda said made her heart ache.

However, George, still typing on his computer, tried to comfort her, "I won't go on a blind date. I didn't even know my mom went there! I swear, I didn't go behind your back to meet anyone!"

"Is that the point?" Matilda's voice suddenly grew louder, "The point is your mom clearly doesn't agree with us, so why did you tell me she did? Do you know I've already told my mom that your mom agreed, and we're just waiting to set a time for our families to meet? My mom has been preparing for this meeting every day!"

The typing on George's side stopped, "Don't be mad. Just tell your mom you're too busy with work to meet right now. I'll figure out a way to handle my mom!"

"What way?" Matilda's tears kept falling, "Do you understand what it means to keep your word? My mom and the others are elders. She took your word seriously and prepared everything. Now you're telling me your mom doesn't agree, and we can't meet. How am I supposed to explain this to her?"

"I didn't want to upset you," George's tone grew more agitated, "Why are you in such a hurry? Your mom and Katniss have been abroad for half a year. If they hadn't gone abroad, this matter might have been resolved already!"

Matilda, furious, sat down on the flower bed, covering her head with her hands and crying softly.

"Matilda, listen to me. I will definitely marry you. Just wait, I'm going to talk to my mom right now."

With that, George hung up the phone.

Matilda was startled and tried to call back, but there was no answer.

George never thought before he spoke, except when it came to his work and games.

In this impulsive state, confronting Odette would only deepen her negative impression of Matilda.

She tried calling for a long time but couldn't get through, so she had to give up and go home to talk to Katniss and figure out a solution.

Synergy Global Corporation

It was the weekend, so there weren't many people in the office, but all the executives and shareholders were present.

Ivy, taking advantage of Travis being the largest shareholder of Synergy Global Corporation, freely entered and exited the shareholders' meeting, sitting next to Travis to listen in.

Eudora's face was pale, her eyes somewhat vacant, sitting like a puppet in her seat.

The conference room door opened, and Tristan strode in, casually glancing at everyone.

His gaze lingered on her for a fraction of a second before she quickly lowered her head, as if trying to hide something, as if Tristan's glance could reveal how she had been humiliated.

"Let's start the meeting." Tristan sat down, tapping his fingers on the wooden table, raising an eyebrow at everyone.

"Start what?" Travis said sarcastically, "You won. All of Synergy Global Corporation's projects, big and small, have been snatched away. How many resignation letters has the HR department received?"

Seeing Synergy Global Corporation on the brink of collapse, many people had already started looking for other opportunities.

"Is that so?" Tristan smirked, shrugging, "Then you're really stupid. Losing to me, do you still have the face to live?"

"I admit I'm not as skilled as you," Travis raised an eyebrow, "And my mind wasn't on work, so losing was inevitable."

Tristan was silent for a few seconds, not wanting to waste words with him, "Then what are you waiting for? According to the contract, hand over your shares to cover Synergy Global Corporation's losses."

"What contract?" Travis looked puzzled, "What contract? I don't know anything about it."

Immediately, a shareholder chimed in, "Mr. Travis Forbes, you and Mr. Tristan Forbes signed a contract, with stakes on the line!"

Travis sneered indifferently, "I don't remember. Where's the contract? Let me see it!"

Ryan, infuriated by his expression, went to the corner of the conference room, opened a safe, and took out a document.

When he opened it, the document, which was originally filled with terms and conditions, was now blank.

However, there were signatures of Tristan and Travis at the bottom right corner of the paper.

"Oh, what's this?" Travis feigned surprise, "What was written here? I seem to have forgotten. Can someone remind me, or make the words reappear?"

The shareholders stood up, and seeing the printed words on the white paper had disappeared, their faces changed drastically.

They whispered among themselves, casting questioning and angry glances at Travis.

Some disappointed looks also fell on Tristan.

"Tristan, you're still too young to compete with me," Travis sneered, "Synergy Global Corporation is in this state because of Eudora. Remove her from the position of General Manager and return the authority to you. I hope you won't disappoint the shareholders and revive Synergy Global Corporation."

Does Tristan have the ability?

Maybe.

His facial muscles tightened as he stared at the document with the vanished text. After a moment, he suddenly laughed, stood up, and said, "Synergy Global Corporation is in this state partly because of me, so I will resign and take responsibility. But the upcoming troubles..."

He glanced at Travis, "You can handle them yourself."

"You can't leave!" Travis said sternly, "I've already given you half of my shares. You're one of the shareholders. Even if you resign as CEO, when we choose someone to be the CEO for the survival of Synergy Global Corporation, it will still be you!"

This was true. If they really had to choose someone to be the CEO of Synergy Global Corporation, everyone would still choose Tristan.

After all, it was the hard work of so many people. They would struggle as much as they could; no one wanted to give up easily!

"Is that so?" Tristan said indifferently, "I didn't know your shares had been transferred to me."

"The share transfer document is with me." An elderly but strong voice came.

Royce opened the conference room door, and Adelaide walked in slowly, holding a document, and slammed it in front of Travis.

"Here are your and Tristan's signatures, but coincidentally, the printed agreement content has all disappeared, so this share transfer document doesn't count. He resigns and takes responsibility, and he can sever ties with Synergy Global Corporation!"
