Chapter 429 Paternity Test

Feeling uncomfortable, Katniss felt sad whenever she thought about that day.

But she couldn't stand Tristan's arrogance at the moment.

Tristan adjusted Evie's pacifier, then stood up and wrapped his arms around Katniss's slender waist.

With one hand on the stroller and the other on the shopping cart, holding Katniss in his arms, he strode forward.

"Where can I find what you need in the supermarket? I'll go upstairs and pick it for you later," he whispered in her ear.

Katniss couldn't help but smile. "It's getting late. After shopping, don't we still have to make baby food for Evie ourselves? Let's not shop anymore."

Tristan had already seen through her pretense but still indulged her. "Then how about I take you to buy some snacks?"

"At your age, what snacks do you want to eat?" Katniss said, but she did glance at the snack section.

High school and college were the times when girls needed the most care.

But she had a tough time during that period because Sophia could only provide her with living expenses. She even had to work several jobs to support her family and had no extra money to buy snacks.

Having passed the age of craving those things, she didn't want to eat snacks anymore.

Tristan's warm and dry hand suddenly landed on her waist, still able to hold it with one hand.

"What's wrong with my age? Don't you like it?"

Katniss smiled and glared at him, seeing the mischievous curve of his thin lips.

Seeing the wildness in the veins on his neck.

Seeing the sexiness in his strong chest muscles.

He was still so familiar, yet there was a lot of unfamiliarity mixed in with that familiarity.

A kind of unfamiliarity that made her feel he could leave her at any moment, causing a constant barrier between them.

After filling a shopping cart with items, Tristan let Katniss lead the delivery staff to take the items to the car first.

He said he forgot a seasoning.

But when Katniss returned to the car and waited for a while, she saw him carrying two large bags of snacks.

The items weren't very heavy, so he carried them himself, but there were many, and both bags were bulging.

"Happy now?" Tristan lifted the two bags through the window, his eyes full of affection as he looked at her.

Katniss leaned her elbow against the car window, her eyes smiling as she looked at him. "Hurry up and bring them up, they're heavy."

She wanted to get out, but he blocked the car door with one leg.

She quickly opened the trunk, letting Tristan put the items inside.

With two days left until the wedding, she had pushed most of her work to Samuel and Benjamin, enjoying rare leisure and spending almost every day with Tristan.

The day before the wedding, she and Tristan took Evie to The Forbes Mansion, called over by Adelaide.

As soon as Tristan entered, Royce greeted him with a smile, glanced into the living room, and then whispered, "Last night, Mr. Michael Astor came over."

"Michael?" This name hadn't appeared in her life for a long time, and Katniss couldn't help but feel a jolt in her heart.

Royce nodded. "I don't know what he said to Mrs. Forbes, but after he left, Mrs. Forbes was worried and didn't sleep much all night."

So, calling her and Tristan back suddenly this morning was most likely related to Michael.

"Got it." Tristan's voice was calm, his expression somewhat serious as he held Katniss's wrist and walked inside.

Seeing them arrive, the complexity on Adelaide's face instantly disappeared, and she greeted them with a smile, inviting them to sit down.

"How are the preparations for tomorrow's wedding?"

As soon as Katniss sat down, Adelaide took her hand, patting the back of it.

This kind of intimacy wasn't new.

If it weren't for Royce's words earlier, Katniss wouldn't have suddenly felt a bit repulsed by Adelaide hiding something.

She discreetly withdrew her hand and handed a glass of water to Tristan.

"Everything is ready."

"Who have you invited?" Adelaide asked again.

"Besides Emory and his mother, and Nicholas and his wife, just you and Katniss's family," Tristan replied concisely.

Hearing this, Adelaide pondered for a moment and said, "What about Katniss's colleagues? I heard you're friends with Benjamin and Michael's former assistant, Mr. Bennett?"

Katniss said, "Yes, Samuel."

Adelaide quickly nodded, "Yes, Samuel. Aren't you good friends? I heard you were college classmates?"

"Yes, we've known each other for many years," Katniss nodded.

"Wasn't Samuel originally Michael's man? How did you manage to bring him over to your side? And he agreed?" Adelaide asked again.

Sensing something was off, Katniss frowned slightly.

Could Michael's visit be to slander her and Samuel?

But that wouldn't be enough to cause any real trouble.

"He couldn't stand Michael's actions for a long time." Katniss didn't elaborate. "Besides, the Astor family was about to fall, and he was eager to find a new place, so it was natural for him to switch sides."

Adelaide seemed a bit relentless. "How did you think of bringing your enemy's assistant over? Are you close with him privately?"

Katniss straightforwardly said, "If you have something to ask, you can say it directly. There's no need to beat around the bush. I can tell you in advance that Samuel and I have known each other for over ten years. We were college classmates and always competed academically, so our relationship was never good, but he did help me once."

Hearing this, Adelaide still seemed to want to ask something.

But seeing Tristan's very unpleasant expression behind her, she had to change the subject. "No, I was just saying. Katniss, why don't you go to the kitchen and see how the preparations are going? It's all your favorite food."

Hearing this, Katniss got up and walked to the kitchen.

In the living room, only Tristan and Adelaide were left.

Adelaide moved closer to Tristan and whispered, "Tristan, do you know Evie's birthday?"

"Yes," Tristan remembered it very clearly. It was the first time he held a child, and later, knowing Evie was his daughter, he couldn't forget that day.

"July 26th."

Adelaide calculated the date and quickly asked, "I heard that once you and Katniss went up the mountain and were set up by Michael, and she was taken away by Samuel?"

Tristan frowned, then immediately understood what Adelaide meant. "What are you thinking?"

"It's not that I'm overthinking. I'm just afraid you'll suffer a loss." Adelaide calculated the dates. "Evie will inherit your estate in the future. If she's not your child, won't your children have to share part of the estate with her for nothing?"

Her voice was very low, afraid Katniss would hear. Ignoring Tristan's displeased expression and regardless of what he thought, she whispered, "Find a time to take Evie for a paternity test."
