Chapter 402 Mr. Forbes Will Be Responsible

Katniss had the most satisfying meal she had ever had.

"Although today is a happy occasion for the Nguyen family, I would like to take this opportunity to introduce someone to you all." After eating and drinking her fill, and before the event ended, she raised a glass of wine. "This is Mr. Samuel Bennett, the company's vice president. He will be involved in the upcoming project. Tomorrow, please send a representative to show him around the village."

After all, no matter how familiar she was with the place, she couldn't know it as well as the locals.

Everyone quickly greeted Samuel and raised their glasses to toast him.

Katniss took a sip and then handed Evie over, allowing Samuel to communicate with the villagers.

Samuel was there on behalf of the company's shareholders to inspect the project, so she needed to maintain a certain distance.

After Samuel had officially greeted everyone, someone asked a question.

"Ms. Grey, Mr. Bennett, who will be in charge of the village renovation project in the future?"

Without hesitation, Samuel said, "Ms. Grey will be in charge. After all, she initiated this project and is the overall leader."

The person who asked the question nodded and said, "So, Ms. Grey will stay to oversee the project? If we can complete the construction before the weather warms up, we can attract visitors in the summer."

This was a hint for Katniss to supervise the construction and transform the village into a resort as soon as possible.

That way, the villagers could benefit earlier.

Everyone looked at Katniss with hopeful eyes.

Katniss lowered her clear eyes and glanced at Tristan, who was sitting there with his head slightly bowed and silent.

She could faintly see the scar in his hair, a scar he got while saving her.

"Once Mr. Bennett finishes his inspection here, I will leave with him."

As soon as she finished speaking, Tristan's eyes suddenly lifted, but Katniss was already smiling at everyone, explaining to the somewhat flustered crowd, "Don't worry, I will leave my most capable assistant here to ensure the project is completed smoothly. I also think you should elect someone to liaise with us and handle all project-related matters in the future."

"Yes, we must ensure the project is done well."

"But our village has been full of uneducated and rough people for generations. Who among us can liaise with you?"

"We can't even understand those blueprints."

Several people looked embarrassed.

"Tristan can read blueprints." Maddy glanced at the man beside her and said proudly, "When Ms. Grey sent the blueprints to renovate the village, my dad couldn't understand them and asked him for help. He could analyze the pros and cons. I think he should represent our village."

As she spoke, she gently pushed Tristan.

Tristan exuded a cold aura, and his slightly lowered eyelids made it hard to read the emotions in his deep eyes.

But his displeasure was evident.

"Alright." Katniss quickly agreed. "Mr. Bennett, arrange for someone to liaise with Mr. Forbes. Prioritize the interests of the villagers. You can communicate any issues to Mr. Forbes, and he will relay them to us."

She referred to him as Mr. Forbes repeatedly.

It was like a sharp blade stabbing into Tristan's heart.

He tried to clench his hand into a fist but couldn't muster the strength.

In his peripheral vision, he saw her walking away with Evie and Samuel. Only then did he lift his head, his gaze fixed on her.

His eyes narrowed, scrutinizing and probing.

The small village had streetlights at intervals, and the ground was uneven.

Katniss struggled to walk while holding Evie, taking uneven steps. Samuel instinctively supported her.

"No need." She avoided Samuel's outstretched hand.

"What's wrong?" Samuel chuckled. "After the act, you don't want to use me anymore?"

Hearing this, Katniss paused and turned to look at Samuel. She was under the streetlight, with a few small insects flying around her head.

"You can't fool me. We've known each other for so long; I can see through your thoughts." Samuel took a deep breath. "Tell me, is there anything you need my help with?"

As he spoke, he saw Emory and Nicholas catching up from behind.

He lowered his voice and said, "Those two are Tristan's good friends. In any situation, they will prioritize Tristan. You need someone by your side who can be there for you at any time and help you with anything. Trust me, I am that friend."

He emphasized the word "friend."

Samuel's eyes were sincere.

For a moment, Katniss couldn't help but marvel at how two people who used to be at odds in school could become friends.

"Then I won't be polite." She handed Evie to Samuel, and during this time, Nicholas and Emory caught up.

Seeing Evie in Samuel's arms, Emory instinctively wanted to take her, "I'll take her."

Before Samuel could stop him, Katniss refused first, "Let him hold her. He should get familiar with Evie in advance."

In advance? Emory's eyes widened, and he exchanged a glance with Nicholas.

Samuel was already holding Evie high on his shoulder, making her laugh happily.

"What do you mean?" Nicholas couldn't help but ask, "Is Samuel going to be her Godfather?"

Katniss sniffed, watching Samuel and Evie with a faint smile, "Not Godfather, but stepfather. He's liked me for many years. Didn't Tristan tell you?"

Nicholas and Emory gasped.

"But I haven't decided yet. Let's see how he performs. You two can also help me evaluate him." Katniss walked forward slowly.

Behind her, she heard hurried footsteps. Emory jogged up to her, "Have you let go of Tristan? Can you forget how good he was to you?"

Katniss pointed to the lantern above her, "For every bit of kindness he showed me, he was equally cruel. He's going to marry another woman in front of me. What should I wait for? For him to break my heart completely?"

Emory thought, 'That's true, but it's hard to accept that Katniss is considering being with another man so soon!'

"If he's forgotten you, too, you should leave with me when I go. Staying won't help. If he doesn't remember, he won't come back with us." Katniss advised them, "You've probably spent a lot of effort trying to 'help him regain his memory,' right? Don't waste your energy. I'll have Ryan book your tickets."

Her rationality made Nicholas want to cry.

After speaking, she turned to catch up with Samuel and Evie.

Nicholas and Emory stood there, heads together, watching Katniss and Samuel walk away with the child.

"To be fair, Samuel has always helped Katniss a lot when he was with Michael. He genuinely cares for her." Nicholas said.

Emory waved his hand to hit Nicholas, "Shut up. No matter how good Samuel is, can he be better than Tristan? He married into her family, followed her to Nightfall City, and gave up the Forbes family for her. Katniss is the most important person to him!"
