Chapter 334 Evie Won't Like You Anymore!
In just a few days, Tristan was nearly driven mad.
During the day, he couldn't help but like Evie, but he had to restrain himself.
Emory was showing off every day, besides he wanted to suppress his feelings as much as possible to avoid liking Evie more than his own child in the future.
But every night, Evie's baby voice surrounded his ears, and she even appeared in his dreams several times.
In his dreams, Evie had grown a bit, crossing her little arms and pouting, "You don't like me, so Evie won't like you either!"
With Katniss being so indifferent to him, how could he not go crazy?
However, he didn't know that Katniss had also been suffering these past few days.
Seeing the messages from Emory, she knew Emory was stirring things up, but she was indeed a bit dissatisfied.
In the last two days of Katniss's ten-day period, she didn't go to Tristan's place after work.
When Tristan asked, she just said she was busy.
Tristan felt she was brushing him off. He was starting to understand the feeling of a neglected wife, not seeing her for days with just a single "busy"?
Tristan didn't believe Katniss was that busy. He wanted to go find her after she got off work, but he was worried that Sophia and the others might be there, and it would be too abrupt.
He suddenly remembered that Aaron lived with Katniss and had mentioned that Aaron had been accepted to TomorrowTech University and would be going to school in a few days.
He called Aaron without hesitation, planning to make Aaron his "spy."
But Aaron wasn't easy to talk to and responded sarcastically.
"If you want to see Katniss, don't you have a mouth of your own?"
Actually, Aaron had noticed that Katniss had been coming and going early and late these days, looking tired and a bit preoccupied.
It was probably related to Tristan; he knew Katniss and Tristan had gotten back together.
"After all this time, you finally found your mouth." Tristan's voice sounded particularly dangerous at night. "Don't forget, you met her because of me."
Aaron wasn't intimidated at all. "Don't think I don't know you used me to get close to Katniss. If it weren't for me, would you have a child popping up in Nightfall City?"
"Cut the crap. Just one question: will you help or not?" Tristan had no patience to spar with Aaron.
His tone carried a hint of threat, and Aaron could tell he was angry. If Katniss hadn't been in a bad mood these days, Aaron wouldn't have agreed to help him.
"I won't help with anything that hurts Katniss, but other things depend on the situation."
That meant he agreedbecause Tristan wouldn't do anything to hurt Katniss.
Tristan said directly, "Let me know immediately when she's home alone."
"Fine, but you owe me a favor." Aaron seized the opportunity.
"Deal." Tristan agreed without hesitation.
After Tristan was discharged from the hospital, Katniss had been busy with work at White Corporation, finally ending her weekend overtime.
She finally had a weekend to rest at home, and she, Sophia, and Aaron spent most of the day with Evie.
Taking this opportunity, Katniss mentioned Tristan to Sophia, "He said he wants to find a suitable time to visit you and explain why we didn't get married back then."
"I'm available anytime," Sophia said without hesitation. "But you, didn't you say you'd tell him about Evie after he was discharged?"
It had been over ten days, and Katniss still hadn't made a move.
"I've been busy with work lately. I'm mainly worried that if I tell him the truth, I won't have time to explain and communicate properly, and there might be misunderstandings."
Actually, Katniss's so-called ten-day period was just to finish her work at White Corporation.
Katniss was worried that after revealing the truth, Tristan would have too many emotions, and she wouldn't be able to be there to help him process them, but now she could."You're right. Now that work isn't too busy, let him come. He doesn't need to make a special trip; tell him not to worry too much."
Sophia patted Katniss and said, "The main thing is you. It's your decision. Matters of the heart are for you to decide."
"Really?" Before Katniss could respond, Matilda suddenly interjected.
She had just come downstairs, having been busy with who knows what these past few days, not seen around.
Katniss and Sophia both looked up.
"Of course, it's true. Your matters are for you to decide," Sophia said with a smile, about to say more when she suddenly saw Matilda pull out a document from behind her.
Opening the first page, there was a beaming photo of her and George.
"Mom, George and I have registered our marriage. It happened rather quickly, so I didn't tell you in advance. But since you said we should decide our own matters, you won't blame me, right?"
Matilda was still a bit cautious.
After all, she had acted first and reported later, and there was some tension between Sophia and George.
What should have been a joyous occasion now seemed particularly jarring to Sophia, and her face instantly darkened.
"Why?" Katniss was also very surprised, trying to stay calm as she asked, "Didn't George's mother still disapprove of you two? What made you decide to register your marriage first?"
Matilda noticed Sophia's displeased expression and nervously said, "George cut ties with his mother for me. He believes that from now on, it's just the two of us. He wanted to register our marriage to make our relationship more solid. Whether his mother is temporarily angry or truly cutting ties, he wants to prove to her that he is determined to be with me."
Hearing this, Katniss fell silent.
She glanced at Sophia.
Sophia's chest heaved, her lips turned pale, and she trembled.
"Matilda, you're being foolish!" After a long pause, Sophia finally spoke, "He cut ties with his mother and registered the marriage without considering her feelings. Are you going to cut ties with me too? Couldn't you have told me beforehand?"
Matilda quickly said, "I was afraid you wouldn't agree. If you didn't agree... how could I explain it to George? He was waiting for me. If we couldn't register our marriage, he would be very upset."
"Is registering the marriage all it takes to make you happy?" Sophia suddenly stood up, grabbed the marriage certificate, and threw it on the sofa. "Do you plan to live your whole life without the Russell family's recognition, just living with George like this? What do you take me for? Can't both families sit down and talk things out? Odette isn't unreasonable. Maybe George miscommunicated something..."
She was so angry that her head throbbed.
Katniss quickly stood up and patted her back. "Mom, don't get upset. The situation has already happened. Let's think about what to do next. There's no point in assigning blame."
Under her soothing, Sophia sat back down, covering her forehead with her hands and burying her head in her arms, saying nothing.
"Matilda, go back to your room. I need to talk to your sister alone." After a while, Sophia lifted her head.
Matilda looked at Katniss worriedly, afraid that Sophia would get too upset, and also afraid... that Sophia would disapprove.
Katniss gave her a reassuring look. "Go ahead, I'll handle this."
Seeing the situation, Aaron picked up Evie and went upstairs as well.
The large living room was left with just Sophia and Katniss. The setting sun cast a golden glow inside.
But it couldn't suppress the complexity on Sophia's face. "Katniss, what do you think we should do about this?"
"They've already registered their marriage. Let's take the initiative to talk to Odette. Now that Matilda is managing an educational institution, her status isn't inferior to the Russell family. We don't need to worry about the Russell family saying anything too harsh. Besides, you said Odette isn't unreasonable. Maybe there's a misunderstanding that can be cleared up, and everyone will be happy."
Katniss quickly analyzed the pros and cons and made a suggestion.
Sophia sighed lightly. "You're right, that's what we should do. But I have another concern. I always feel that George is unreliable. With things getting so out of hand, and them secretly registering their marriage, it makes the families meeting to talk seem awkward. If they have relationship issues in the future, the families might not communicate anymore."
"So, what do you mean..." Katniss was unsure of Sophia's thoughts.
"I'll observe for a while. I saw her looking for a place to live a few days ago, probably planning to move in with George. I'll move in with her for a couple of days to see what George is like in private. I know you have Evie and need help, so I'll only stay for two or three days. Staying longer would just annoy them."
By "them," she meant Matilda and George.
After all, they were young and had just registered their marriage. Their relationship was good, and it wouldn't be easy for her to stay in the middle.
"I don't mind. Since you've decided, let's do as you say." Katniss agreed with Sophia's plan to test Matilda and George's relationship.
Then Sophia went upstairs to talk to Matilda. Who knows what they discussed, but by evening, George arrived.
He came to pick up Matilda and Sophia. When he saw Katniss, he cheerfully called out, "Katniss."
Katniss smiled warmly. Seeing Matilda and Sophia coming down with two suitcases, she turned to George, who was still standing there, and said, "Aren't you going to help?"
George then realized and quickly ran over to take the luggage from Sophia and Matilda.
Matilda had more things, while Sophia only had a small bag, as she was only staying for a couple of days.
Katniss, holding Evie, stood with Aaron at the apartment door, watching George's car drive away.
Then Aaron suddenly realized something. "So, Katniss, it's just the two of us at home now?"
"Yes." Katniss looked down at Evie, feeling a headache coming on. "I'm not very good at cooking. How's your cooking practice been going?"
Aaron thought, "Looks like I'll have to cook while Sophia is away."
Thinking about it gave him a headache.
"Leave it to me." He turned and went into the kitchen, making something simple.
Katniss took a few bites and gave an honest review, "To be honest, it doesn't taste great. Needs improvement, keep trying."
She was really hard to please. Aaron suddenly thought of Tristan. Didn't he always cook for Katniss before?
Moreover, Tristan was still waiting for him to report back, planning to come over when Sophia wasn't around!
