Chapter 212 Not Convenient to Say Directly

A short clip, all about Anna cozying up to Eudora.

Saskia turned off her phone and said, "Better safe than sorry, right?"

"Right." Katniss twirled a strand of hair around her finger and nodded.

She had a quick chat with Sophia when she got back, and was about to leave after tucking Sophia into bed when Saskia called her back. "Hey, Nicholas just messaged. Anna's insisting on taking Eudora home. She wants to dig up more info about Tristan from her."

Hearing this, Katniss paused for a moment, then said, "Got it," and turned to leave.

She could totally get why young folks acted on impulse when they met someone they liked.

Especially when that someone was as impressive as Tristan.

But it was weird that the Owens family seemed to be pushing it, considering Tristan already had a girlfriend.

She had just stepped out of the villa when she spotted a tall figure under the streetlamp.

Bathed in light, Tristan's features were shadowed, giving off a deep and brooding vibe.

Seeing her come out, he walked over, switched his coat to his other arm, and took her hand to lead her home.

"Have you been waiting long?" She figured Tristan had left over an hour ago.

Tristan responded, they chatted briefly, and then he brought up the project, explaining its details to her. "In a few days, Daniel's getting transferred to Velvet City. We need to wrap up this project before he leaves so he can help push it forward there. By the time we get back to Velvet City, the project should be ready to launch."

The project would be rolled out in Velvet City, with Tristan in charge once he returned.

The night was thick with silence, and the business car sped down the road. Eudora sat in the front left seat, with Anna beside her.

"Miss Savoy, who do you think is a better match for Mr. Forbes, Katniss or me?" Anna's question was blunt.

Eudora turned to look at her for a moment and couldn't help but laugh. "In terms of family background, of course, Miss Owens is a better match for Tristan."

The direct question got a direct answer, leaving Anna stunned. Based on Eudora's vague answers earlier, she had expected another round of ambiguity.

"Miss Owens, there were a lot of people in the room earlier, including Tristan's best friends, so I couldn't speak directly." Eudora noticed her confusion and explained, "Actually, Katniss was also a third party who climbed up. You might not know this since you're not from Velvet City, but Tristan had a marriage that ended a year ago, and Katniss was already involved with him before that."

"What?" Anna was shocked. "And she still has the nerve to act all proper and dignified?"

Her impression of Katniss instantly worsened. "She must have some tricks up her sleeve to climb up like that."

After a few seconds of silence, Eudora smiled and said, "Although Tristan is excellent, even the best men can't resist new temptations. Besides, you and Katniss have completely different personalities. I think as long as you put in the effort, Tristan will eventually be attracted to you."

Anna immediately said arrogantly, "Of course, she's just a tutor. How can she compare to me?"

Eudora stopped talking at that point.

"Miss Savoy, shall we play golf together tomorrow? Mr. Wilson has invited my dad, and Mr. Forbes will definitely go," Anna suddenly said.

"Sure, I don't have anything planned for tomorrow anyway," Eudora replied.

After dropping Eudora off at home, the driver drove away. Anna, in a good mood, started singing in the car.

That night, a drizzle began to fall and continued throughout the night.

The night wind, mixed with the chill of the rain, blew into the room through the window, making Katniss feel a bit cold.

Tristan had prepared some cold medicine for her early on, and after drinking it, Katniss felt much better.

"I have a golf game with Mr. Owens today." Tristan placed the empty bowl on the cabinet, sat by the bed, and kissed her forehead.

Katniss's eyes fluttered as she played with a string on his sweatpants and asked, "Just you and Mr. Owens?"

"Nicholas and Daniel will be there too, but who Mr. Owens brings is unknown," Tristan said meaningfully, noticing Katniss deep in thought.

He added, "Ryan can't make it. Will you come with me?"

Katniss hesitated for a few seconds before saying, "What's Mr. Gray doing?"

"I've assigned him other work," he said.

Katniss got out of bed, put on her slippers, and reluctantly said, "Then I'll go with you."

She then went to the bathroom to freshen up, chose a black sports outfit, and silently dressed up.

Tristan picked a sports outfit in a similar color scheme. After breakfast, the two set off for the golf course.

When they arrived, Sean, Anna, and Nicholas had already started playing golf. Anna saw Katniss, and her face darkened. She stood behind Sean without saying a word.

After some small talk, Sean and Tristan played a round while Nicholas and Daniel watched and discussed the project.

Katniss sat in the resting area, with Eudora next to her and Anna further down.

"Mr. Forbes is really impressive; not many people can beat my dad," Anna praised Tristan generously.

"Thank you for the compliment, Miss Owens," Katniss replied calmly.

Anna turned to look at her. The sunlight fell on Katniss, who had her hair tied in a loose ponytail, with the ends resting on her shoulder.

Katniss was six years older than Anna, but sitting together, the age difference was not apparent.

Moreover, Katniss had a certain calmness about her, giving her a slight edge in terms of demeanor, which made Anna feel overshadowed. She frowned and asked, "Miss Grey, do you play golf?"

"Just barely. My skills aren't great," Katniss answered honestly.

"Then I'll go easy on you. How about we play a round?" Anna lifted her chin slightly, challenging Katniss in a tone that brooked no refusal.

Eudora, sitting between them, couldn't help but lean back as Anna's gaze was too intense.

Katniss squinted slightly, turned to meet Anna's gaze for a few seconds, and then smiled, "Alright."

As soon as she finished speaking, Anna ran over to Sean. "Dad, I want to play a round with Miss Grey. You guys go rest for a bit."

"You are so wilful, I haven't finished my game with Mr. Forbes," Sean said disapprovingly but let Anna take his club.

Anna smiled charmingly and waved at Katniss, "Miss Grey, come on over."

Katniss stood up, placed her bag on the chair, and suddenly heard Eudora say, "Go easy on her. Miss Owens is young and impulsive. If you upset her, Mr. Owens will be unhappy, and this project will be hard to continue."

"Thanks for the heads-up, Miss Savoy," Katniss replied, then walked over to Tristan and took the club from his hand.

"I'll go first," Anna said, pushing Sean to the resting area, then swung and made the shot with perfect form.

Anna was wearing a short white skirt outfit, her long legs exposed to the air, her hair golden, and her makeup delicate. Her innate vitality made it hard to look away.

Katniss glanced at Tristan. He wasn't sitting in the resting area but was standing by a low table, smoking, his long fingers flicking the ash, occasionally joining in the conversation.

Despite saying she'd go easy on Katniss, Anna's form and shot count were nearly perfect.

Anna turned back and raised her eyebrows at Katniss, "Your turn. But I just realized playing like this is a bit dull. Let's add a bet."

Instantly, everyone's eyes in the resting area were on them.

Sean frowned slightly but didn't stop Anna, glancing at Tristan standing nearby.

Tristan seemed not to hear Anna's words. He was focused on his phone, smoking, and not paying attention.

Katniss took the hair tie off her wrist and tied her ponytail into a bun. "Miss Owens, just state your terms directly. There's no need for a game."

"That would make it seem like I'm bullying you," Anna sneered, not caring how unfair it was to propose a bet now. She pointed to a caddie not far away, "Whoever loses has to pick up the balls. Miss Grey, please."

She then walked over to Sean. "Dad, how did I do? Mr. Forbes, do you think your girlfriend can beat me?"

Tristan seemed to hear them, extinguished his cigarette, put his phone in his pocket, and said coldly, "She has me, so she'll win."

He then walked over to Katniss, wrapped his arms around her small frame, and guided her hands as she held the club.

"What if I lose?" Katniss whispered. If Tristan played himself, they would surely win.

But with him holding her hands, she felt stiff, and any slight mistake could lead to a loss.

Tristan's deep voice sounded in her ear, "If you lose, I'll pick up the balls."

Katniss couldn't help but laugh softly, her back pressed against his firm chest, listening to his instructions, "Relax your hands."

Their intimate posture made Anna grit her teeth. She instinctively wanted to rush over but was quickly stopped by Sean.

It became evident that Tristan possessed a remarkable skill, even in the company of a beginner. Every shot went in, and when the final shot also dropped into the hole, Katniss couldn't help but drop the club, turn around, and hug him, standing on tiptoe to kiss his face.

Tristan held her waist, bent down to kiss her forehead, and then walked with her to the resting area.

"You're cheating!" Anna accused, "Who allowed you to get outside help?"

"Miss Owens, I didn't ask for outside help. My help came to me voluntarily. Of course, a bet is a bet, and Miss Owens should pick up the balls. But if Miss Owens can find someone to help you, I won't say anything," Katniss said coldly.

Anna was furious, but she and Sean hadn't brought anyone else. Was she supposed to ask Sean to pick up the balls for her?
